Now, now, I understand that ME4 will be "massive" in SP which might lift the Bio Studio from the DAI quagmire.

..... *copies.*

Yeah. That's totally gonna happen. Absolutely, without a shred of doubt. *snort-snicker*

*pastes*

EDIT: Personally reviews are useless, they offer you nothing.

You should either buy the game and check it out yourself OR watch a GAMEPLAY VIDEO( not those videos made by ppl who cant even do a gameplay video right.... or play the game right... kind of talking about the REAL ones)

then decide what you think about the game.

Personally, I don't buy anything without extensively researching it first and popular opinion has never swayed me to do anything.  I work hard to winnow out my own bias' whenever possible, but we all make mistakes.

Unfortunately, a lot of things lately boil down to the 'lesser of two piles of garbage'.

Fortunately, I'm saving a helluva lot of cash.

While I did not ask for a solo MMO like SWTOR, I am one that appreciates it in DAI. And based on the numerous reviews and awards - even from those that are not affiliated with the industry - it seems doubtful that I am alone.

And the Hissing Wastes provided interactions with the Venatori, Red Templars, and their slaves in addition to the treasure hunts, shop, resources, and Dragon encounter; one of the better ones, IMO.

Yup  I found some Venatori scattered around the place, usually where I wanted to set up camp. Being totally fed up with riding my Hart around until it started frothing at the mouth, I buried them there and any bored Red Templars I came across trying to make horrors out of sandcastles. Raiding the Venatori main base proved a diversion as did an interesting Tomb Raider exercise despite the pain of having to search around for the blasted tombs. For the most part I just found it an overlong and unnecessarily boring experience, a factor which was multiplied by the number of large areas in the game.

For newbie (console user I guess) to the DA world this may have been an invigorating encounter(s), but for me experiencing the previous 2 games left me with a lot of high expectations which were never realised

Well, you can add me to the, "I love Pillars of Eternity" group. Now this is what you call going back to the basics.

Guessing that I have 1400+ hrs in DAO (ie; 20+ campaigns at almost 70 hrs each), and at least six completed campaigns of DA2, and also play on the PC. Yet I am still quite satisfied with DAI as I happen to enjoy solo MMO play (based on my solo gameplay of SWTOR).

And I rather liked the idea I could not only rescue the slaves found in the desert, but that I could utilize them via the War Table, too. And the mapped tomb hunt was quite pleasing for me; perhaps it is because I have never played Tomb Raider games, or am not as jaded as some other players. But seeing that I have been playing FRPG's since '75, and have been doing pretty much the same thing in every game (ie; magic, Dragons, Demons, save the day, etc), I am uncertain.

Actually, I skip most article reviews with some possible exceptions. Generally, they offer little past what was already known here. But I could not help note that there are those that gave praise to DAI that were outside the industry.

                                                                                      <<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>

Granted but if outside what are their qualifications? For a while, now, I am in the throes of Doubting Thomas.

Think there is a misunderstanding. These reviews and awards from outside the industry I mention are made after the game has launched; are not done pre-launch. Many like myself enjoy it, and consider it the GOTY.

As for pre-launch hype, I tend to skip most of it.

I had the same issue until the last update. (I think it was #6) Then after reading in here and deciding to take the risk, I did some poking around on the Controls and adjusted them so the SPACE bar paused the game, and the TAB key did searches.  Those two little adjustments (and the improvements the Bioware team had done) made the game playable for me since that was the moves I was used to for Dragon Age Origin.  AND I have been able to enjoy DAI after 5 months of waiting.  I still have to use the W button to move forward, and use the mouse for turns -- which leads to fatigue and pain after a while -- but it is playable.  I miss the banter by the other members of my party, a lot.  That made the exploring and doing much more enjoyable and realistic.  I don't like the jumping around that is necessary to get shards or other things in unreachable places -- that, to me, is something aimed at my 16 year old grandson who loves Mario Brothers!  And doesn't rally belong in an RPG designed for Keyboard and Mouse.  I also really miss the click to move feature, it is much kinder to the hands and made combat easier.

I'm a newbie as far as Forums are concerned, so hope this isn't too long.  Mostly I just read others posts and learn from them, but I thought this might help you play, too.  This really is a visually beautiful game with lots and lots of side quests (mostly sensible ones that have something to do with the Inquisition).  I am a casual senior citizen player, so excessive hack and slash stuff just doesn't appeal to me.   I like the characters in DAI as they are all well done and distinctive, like real people. I'm a little put off by all the dragons though.  Why in the world would the Inquisitor risk the World just to take on a dragon?  Somehow those fights need to fit into the story better.

Sorry but no. No "outside industry" reviews exist that gave this a GOTY....all those reviews are bought and paid for one way or another...the fact they are published before or after release is wholly irrelevant. It's not a bad game if you're on a console/controller etc. Maybe it was quite a good game compared to whatever middle of the road stuff was released last year but on PC it was a 6 out of 10 game at best and that is not GOTY or if it's the best at 6/10 then you don't give a GOTY that year.

It's mostly all hype...both pre and post launch all part of the same game.

It's a formula first, a game second and DAI was already scratching a living in major parts of the game folliwing that formula imho. So much filler content, so much statistics to be fulfilled, so much empty, liveless space. I couldn't bare any more of that in the next Mass Effect game tbh.

Good for you. I was programming Cobol in 1973  and executing those on an ICL Mainframe for share dealing systems. In 1969 I wrote my first business programs using a punchcard machine ajdacent to a Burroughs E6000 for a well known folk pop singer named Donovan. Nowadays I prefer fishing and I'm thinking of taking up needlepoint

As I recall, after DA2 there were a few calls to expand the world and get out of Kirkwall, do not use copied areas, restrict Ninja spawns, slow the pace of combat, replace the artwork for Elves and Darkspawn, add some more color to the brown areas, etc.

Seems Bioware may listen a little....

They listen but then they change things people didn't complain about in fact they changed things that people specifically praised in DA2.

After DAI I have no faith in the ability of those in charge of the franchise to take it in a direction I will like because IMHO they have failed completely to recognise what gameplay elements should be core to the franchise.

And THIS is how you make a fantasy RPG:

Paid £39 for DAI

Will only pay £28 for TW3 which will include a bunch of FREE DLC!

So why would I ever buy another Bioware game?

I paid the same as well and have no doubt it'll be worth it. Can't wait.

As your reply insinuated DAI was only for those with new console experience, simply offered my own experience to counter the argument. And I also programmed using COBOL, though my Father was the one with practical programming expertise.

Knitting, Venerable One.  It's surprisingly manly and very utilitarian.  You can do up some nice sweaters for sittin' and castin'.  I'm also informed by a rather attractive redhead that man-knitting is "extremely hot", so needles up.

Not all of the Dragons are posting a danger to the surrounding area. Select which ones that are a threat, and deal with them; live and let live with the rest if you wish. Enjoy!

And that is what has me worried. How can you fill that space with meaningfull content/quests?  I realize that many love the macko. Me?.. not so much, based on ME1 & 2.

If  the "Single-player storyline will be "massive", according to Senior Development Director Chris Wynn" then I hope that planet exploration is done in such a way that it will engage the player to explore and avoid at all costs repetitive meanderings and boredom. And, for the Maker's sake, don't saddle me with awkward Macko controls.

Now and then I fire up the IBM mainframe emulator called Hercules and run the public OS/360 Operating System. The package comes with all the compilers of that time including COBOL, PL/I... even APL. The emulator supports most of the unit devices (ie" printers, readers, punch cards , tape drives) supported by the OS.

Do it.  Needlepoint is excellent for bad joints... or is that with?
