Why Is Everyone on the Internet So Angry?

These days, online comments "are extraordinarily aggressive, without resolving anything," said Art Markman, a professor of psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. "At the end of it you can't possibly feel like anybody heard you. Having a strong emotional experience that doesn't resolve itself in any healthy way can't be a good thing."

If it's so unsatisfying and unhealthy, why do we do it?

Exactly why I have, mostly, stopped posting on forums.  An utterly complete waste of time.  I used to be the "PC guy angry with the world that most games are developed with consoles in mind because of overwhelming sales"   But now, I just move on to the next game or thing.  Life is too short.

I agree. I just like talking to friends' now. And trolls (not directed at you). this forum is a lot more fun than DAI for me.

One can always ignore Elhanan. Going by the history of this thread, he has been on this thread since quite some time and invalidated a lot of opinions and complaints with his favourite two opening words "Personally, I......" and BOOM, your complaint has been invalid because our dear Elhanan does not suffer from it. Since Elhanan does not have the given problem, no one should have it. That's how it has been in a nutshell  Many people have tried reasoning but to no avail. This has consistently been the case in various feedback threads too. So Ignorance is bliss. I am sure lot of people already ignore what he says because it is barely constructive. Surely there will be a reply to this post either how I am wrong or where he makes a reference to the ignore user option. Well, whatever.

Also Githcheater. I am assuming you are a man of reason. So, here is the thing. If you go through the first 100 pages of this thread, you will find ample constructive criticism. Mr Darrah had also said that they were reviewing and listening to the feedback offered and would take action in the patches, although we were dissapointed a bit given the "PC game for PC gamers". This was all good until slowly there was no BioWare interaction at all. The patches released till now have not improved the PC controls at all. BioWare has not even acknowledge this shortcoming and apologized for it. Most of us wouldn't be here but we are since we have paid $60 for this game. So after 5 months of void improvement , you do not expect each and every post to be a constructive feedback. Sure there are 1 or 2 users who hate the game out of sheer enjoyment, but the rest of us are here because we cannot fathom the decline of this franchise on the PC platform. I do not speak for every PC player out there but going by the user reviews on various sites, this decline has been the trend. Again, this just a nutshell of what has happened till now because I am lazy to write.

If you enjoy the game, I am happy about it. If you can add to the concerns of the PC community, you are always welcome. If you think we are wrong about some given aspects, feel free to discuss it constructively. But if you keep on posting as you have done above, you will be panned.

I'm sticking around until May 19th. If the fixes are made and a real effort is made to making Inquisition more like what we've been groomed to expect... then I'll buy the DLC and hope Bioware learns from this. If not, too many other great developers are making great games that Bioware used to make. Getting a lot of mileage out of Pillars of Eternity right now. Next on deck is Divinity: Original Sin. After that: the Witchers series. Hell I had a choice to blow money on either Jaws of Hakkon or a retread of the same game I already own by another young and growing company called Undead Labs. I bought the retread to support those guys.

May 19th.

A keen point is that this states 'much'; not all, which I agree appears to be fairly accurate. Some see lies and company manipulation, entitled consumer freedom to demand change and apologies, and seem to believe that vocal volume depicts the majority of thought.

This group believes it represents the entirety of the PC Community. They need a name; recommend The Knights Who Say Icky, Icky, Icky, Zip-It....

^_^

LOL

"..This group believes it represents the entirety of the PC Community.."

this statement is "reaching" and untrue.  How on Earth you came to this conclusion is beyond me.

"..Some see lies and company manipulation.."

Tell us what you see regarding Bio's game promotions/advertising/video reviews/  vs actual game content and its stability across platforms.... as a counter point. I'd be interested.

Has anyone  reviewed just the Bio posts in this thread? Post number 10 by Allan is quite revealing.

Basically he's saying "what about the PC UI controls from DA:O and DA2", 'cause he is OK with the KB+M controls available in DAI.

Did I miss something or was Bio wearing blinkers and/or refusing to take them off?

Got my butt handed to me on two XCOM missions.

This game pulls you in and won't let go. Unlike DAI where I'm constantly fighting the controls.

My computer is getting pulled out of the box because we have to start from scratch again at other homes. I just don't want to do it. Oh Maker show me mercy.

Have already seen the vid; no lies, but also no mention of the relative balance that was made for consoles (posted this earlier).

And again, not all of those posting in this thread are Knights of the Icky, Icky, Icky, Zip-It. But this fantasy group certainly includes those that continue to display opinions as fact, prefer personal attacks as opposed to debate, and actually state in their posts that the all, entire, etc PC Community is up in arms about blah, blah, blah.

Also, XCOM is quite addictive. Gopher has been running recorded Twitch streams from Vanilla and Long War versions, and is currently attempting another Long War campaign if interested. He switched to LW after finally winning a Vanilla campaign; not so in LW thus far.

In regards to the 2013 interview... this is their direction and Bioware is in line I guess.

In regards to the 2014 interview... I'm down with Inquisition being free to play. It's better than losing $60.

How EA views the world

We've asked for too much time, too much skill, and too much money, sometimes all at once," he told the audience at D.I.C.E. Europe today.

From my experience since Awakenings, you've definitely been asking for too much money dude.

"Customers today... are generally looking for a single fabric of play. They want their game where they want it, when they want it, and at a price they can defend to other people."

See above.

He suggested that the next generation of consoles can get gamers back if it learns from new trends, where players have become content creators and the focus in development has shifted from hardware to software. According to EA research, mobile games hold the attention for 90 seconds and PC games for 90 minutes, but consoles can keep engagement for two hours at a time.

"Once I get your butt on a couch, I can get two hours for sure. That granularity means I cannot build the same game on every platform. I cannot build Battlefield on every platform."

How's that gonna happen with you refusing to release a tool kit and actively interfering with attempts to mod and create content?

Next generation games consoles will be more focused on updates to software and services rather than hardware specs, which will scale back the reliance on physical sales and mean the systems will be in a constant state of evolution rather than staggered over time.

Read: Every time we change something any mods or content we didn't create won't work anymore, and sometimes those won't work either.

"We are no longer in step function; we are in evolution," he said. "We are not changing every four years; we are in continuous change."

"Gen 4 will increasingly become a surrogate to the development of the platform overall, to the point where the hardware doesn't even matter any more."

He also highlighted the importance of user generated content and artwork in the new gaming ecosystem, suggesting that users will be just as important, if not more so, than staff employed in-house.

See above.

users will be just as important, if not more so, than staff employed in-house.

Sounds like the next step in their business plan is to move from selling us a half-done game, get rid of their in-house people, and sell us a "game" that we have to make for ourselves ... wonder how much they plan on charging for that.

Judging by their on-going trend of charging us more and more for less and less, it will be outrageously expensive ... but will "win" multiple GOTY awards for it's "innovation".

I can't find the comment I posted last night, so here we go again.

I'm one of those whose PC's performance has dropped since patch 6.  Mainly very long load times and stuttering.  The latest NVIDIA driver took care of the CTD but not the other two issues.  I've had to turn down all the graphical settings to medium or low, which helped a little with the load times but not much.

I've thought about rolling back my game to patch 5, especially since the new patch broke the mods.

Hell, I dunno, maybe it's just because we're pissed! It's all fine and dandy for some Academic to theorise and ask the question from the safety of his lecture hall, but the question remains "Do you feel better for having done it?"  Try as I might I cannot derive any "strong emotional experience" from struggling with my keyboard other than developing a strong dislike for the spell checker. Maybe he would prefer that folks just walked out into the street and punched out the first person they came across instead. Sticks and stones and all that, but if psychologists are saying that the world has big anger management issues then are they telling us something we already know, or maybe asking questions  of issues which they have already analysed themselves

The answer to this cascading psychobabble for this thread is maybe if some hard evidence of real improvement materialised the ire would dissipate

I'm pretty sure that the game does not allow you to roll back to a previous patch from say 5 to 4 for if it did I wouldn't be stuck at my current patch 2 status. But you can go back to square one pre patching by doing what this DA help desk says to do http://answers.ea.co...3982597/page/70

to roll back your game to pre-patch....

go into your origin app.

click on origin, in the upper left hand corner, and select application settings

on the general tab, uncheck automatically keep my games up to date

then go to your "my games" page

right click on dragon age inquisition

and select uninstall

when you are done uninstalling the game,

use ccleaner or other disk cleaning software to make sure it cleans the $MFT free space

(this will take a while depending on how many and what size drives you have.)

once that is done restart your system, and origin.

re-install dragon age inquisition.

when it is complete it will tell you that there are updates available

DO NOT install them.

and you shold be back to pre-patch condition.

I absolutely understand why people who enjoy the game are posting in this thread. It is simple human nature to defend something you enjoy. I do it and I'm sure everyone who has posted in this thread has done it for something at some point, whether they realise it or not.

However what some seem to be forgetting is that you can like something but still dislike parts of it. I'm sure I can say with near certainty that everyone posting in this thread WANTS to like Inquisition, this thread would not have lasted so long if they didn't.

Also people have different tolerances. Some can push past things they find irritating to get the the stuff they enjoy, others find those irritations 'game breaking'.

Personally I do find the controls 'game breaking'. I can't bring myself to fight past them because I have a wealth of games I do enjoy and don't feel as if I am fighting the controls rather than the enemies.

Everyone posting here is a Bioware fan. We all want to enjoy the games they make. Please try when you see posts that you disagree with to remember that.

If my characters would use guard or barriers properly in combat I don't think it would be an issue. but I can't get them to stay where I tell them. The ranged always move up. The mage casts whatever instead of barrier, IB does not use guard, unless I micro manage the whole fight.  I do not want to micro manage. I like casual gaming for non multiplayer games.  I would like health regen back between combat at least. If I choose to play on casual and want that option, dont be busting my chops.

The only way to play Inquisition is hack and slash. I had to turn off so many abilities because the NPC was just cycling through them. Literally. So to keep Barrier going, I shut off every ability Solas, Dorian and VIvienne had and made them spam barrier. Then I would use them to cast spells (why are all of them AoE? Only a few direct hit spells... ) to hit targets, but of course... they loved to get up close and personal. I don't know how many times Dorian and Solas needed to show how tough they are as they zip past Iron Bull or Blackwall to attack. WTF.... oh I mean FTW.

Even modding Fallout3, and may try New Vegas for the 1st time.

Since i no longer support Booware... Elhma'am, get a life.. You really do act like a child.. You need a hobby.. Its sad really.. I legitimately pitty you.. I cannot imagine what your life is like, to spend THIS much time on a forum, defensding someone elses game, to upset customers, who are only delivering the feeedback said developer asked them for.. FWIW, I respect you for overcoming your reported adversity in your own life to aid and do better things for your family. What I cannot respect is the continuous assumptions that are seemingly made based on conjecture, gossip, inaccurate observations, and the like.

Enjoy the bundle; got it on a past holiday, though have played little of it yet. Will likely do so in place of PoE and TW3. This should help with breaks from my current games until ME4 or some other game of interest appears.
