I change my mind. On May 19th, I'm not going to replay Origins for a 13th run. I'm going to player Witcher 3. A product made from a Bioware engine.

Only first The Witcher used Bioware engine. AFAIK Red2 & Red3 are completely new engines.

You can read more here http://www.eurogamer...f-the-witcher-2

Wait... you actually report people to the mods when you feel like they've tried to circumvent the profanity filter?

I assumed the mods monitored this thread and that's why we've seen them take action, give warnings, etc. Had no idea we had a playground tattle tale haha.

You wouldn't believe how many snitches are here reporting every single BS. This must be real headache for mods to sort through all this garbage.

[SNIP - BATTLEFRONT IMAGE]

Stats don't lie. EA is bad for this industry.

Yeah, with LucasArts in the hands of Disney and with exclusivity for SW games in the hands of EA, the Star Wars franchise is screwed for good.

And this table in your post tells it all.

Earlier this month; my wife caught me lurking and complaining about the game on Bsn forums yet again and pretty much got mad. As she already knew how much i love the game and wanted a go on the franchise herself; she gave me a good lecture about why i was torturing myself and told me to buy the game and get over with it if i don’t like it. The game was also on a discount at the time and i told my self what the heck and bought it eventually.

So; here i am playing the game and therefore in a position to make a much more informed criticism about it.

My final verdict is not as bad as the implication of this topic. I am actually enjoying the game somewhat. The experience is definitely not like the blast i had while i was playing Origins(no where near). It is much more close to the one i had with Dragon Age 2. Settling and focusing on the positives or what you have at your disposal rather than the negatives... I believe and feel like the game being a Dragon Age game and the rarity of the genre in general made me settle and helped myself to be tolerant towards it. Not because it has overhelming amount of positives compared to the negatives. Just like Dragon Age 2...

I will not be going into details as this topic has countless references to anything you can come up with the game. The thing is :

The game has lots of great, interesting and promising features or well implemented decisions. But for everey positive thing you may say about the game; there are bugs, design decisions, limitations just as much and just as important that it zeroes out negating all the positives. That is the problem with this game. At one moment you are having a blast, but the next moment you can find yourself deep into frustration.

For a tolerant, forgiving person you can have an ok to good experience. But for a less tolerant person the experience would be like a constant cycle between the extremes of having a blast to frustration. And this i believe is where the rage comes from. You see; there is a masterpiece potential so close lying beneath the game. But every single time it just barely reaches there and could not make it. Really painful to experience...

After playing the game, i still believe that the majority of the criticism on the pc version mentioned in this topic are legit and deserve to be worded. They should be considered feedback for the devs to take seriously and a point of focus next time to get past the threshold which seperates a masterpiece to an ok to good experience.

Personally choose to report the possible offense, and let the mods sort it out, as per the ToS. In the example, the offense may not be a personal attack, but apparently does try to circumvent the filters for vulgarity.

And the Ignore feature works well; still allows one to view posts, or skip them as desired. This is also recommended on the ToS.

You don't feel confident enough to try and handle it on your own initially? Mmmmm

Well i don't think EA and consequently Bioware cares about fanbase nearly as much as it did in the old days.Today we live in the Hype Age where building as much hype as possible for a ............................................................... Also ever increasing marketing budgets really prove that the concept of fan base is not seen as important as it was in the old days because if you need a lot of flash to attract new crowds all the time it means that they never stick around.Big dedicated fan  following buy your games constantly but if the word spreads that you don't deliver anymore in the long run it will hurt.I apologise for my bad english and lack of proper punctuation and grammar.

I think your English works just fine and your hope is a noble one which many of us are trying to hold on to with increasing difficulty

First day complaints about movement seemed to be directed at the default Key controls. So I re-mapped these to the familiar WASD/ Q&E movements used in other games, and then replicated these to the Tac-Cam, too.

Continued attacks is something I have encountered with my Mage. From what I recall from my muscle memory, if there are still other targets, I utilize Pause and re-direct fire using Hotkeys or further staff attacks at them; possible use of Tac-Cam also.

When you say delete, do you mean destroy purposely for sake of inventory? If so, I only did this in my first campaign, and cannot recall ever ridding myself of something desirable. But if this were to occur, I tend to Save and Quicksave almost as often as Searching for loot. That is an exaggeration, but my family when visiting may somewhat agree. I do save before each trip to the merchants in case I make an error; have done so since my days in NWN1.

Sorry is this a tech support thread only you seem to be coming across as a Bioware tekkie!

Why do you keep referring to NWN1? The pc game is Neverwinter NIghts or NWN. NWN2 was not a Bioware dev but an Obsidian one using the name that Bioware sold on and bringing back happy memories of D & D party based rpgs

I have difficulty understanding how you could have played NWN as it was produced initially for the PC and later adapted for LInux and MAC OS X. Maybe you are talking about the MMO Neverwinter which was playable on XBOX1?

Please clarify.

I tend to agree that it is difficult to perceive that there are good parts to the game just by reading this thread for pc users. In the past I have been asked to grade games overall out of 10 with 10 being the highest possible score. DAO I rated and still do a 9-9.5. DA2  8.5ish  using DAO as a comparison and DAI as an overall 7 - good. This compares with Duke Nukem forever's 3 (sucks in all parts) I  try to divide content into what I see as the game's component parts. ie  storyline, plot (mostly for RPGs), graphics and sound performance, gameplay and  design. This allows me to arrive at what I think is a fair overall score. DAI scores well enough on storyline, design and plot pretty much while gameplay, graphics, and sound I have issues with. I have tried to ignore my previous experience with DA games in coming to this rating. Had I done so it would hve been nore of a dig a bioware that trying to value the game for what it actually does.

Having said that had I known what I now know about DAI for the PC I would never have bought it. That is a separate issue and relates to regulators controlling marketing standards, and also, so-called reviewers ratings. Take Gamespot for example. Some time back one of their senior reviewers got canned for giving a poor rating to a game produced by one of their advertising sponsors. Since then, I reckon that Gamespot can no longer be relied on for impartial reviews on releases. Just look how they  leapt to support the rubbish  ME3 ending on one of their own broadcast videos. Yet later Bioware were forced by gamers to a knee jerk "tweak" which did pretty much zippo to silence the howls of protest

I loved Xwing and later XWing vTie Fighter(the only time I  multiplayed ), plus several others Jedi Knight.Rebel Assault, KOTR ad infinitum.h Doubt we'd  get a even a mature version of Lego star wars these days ( all those lumps). (sigh) I guess I'm getting too old for this sh*t. I'm off to my birthday party

Yes, delete or sell. The lost item wasn't the point about that example though, it was that this is a poor design. It's an artifact of the game being emulated (poorly) from a controller interface.

From my experience, pausing and retargetting is still a problem because it locks your character into an action regardless of how you attempt to change it. It's more noticeable on melee than ranged though. My archer barely noticed it. Melee on the other hand, well, you can't move or retarget until the current set of swings is finished.

By all reports, on a controller, once you release the trigger or change targets the change is immediate. This tells me the PC keyboard emulator is a biy clunky and needs work.

Yay, now Valve and Bethesda have made a fool out of themselves as well. Will this ever end I wonder.. I seriously don't like where the gaming industry have ended up.

The amount of money generated attract the sharks and the sharks have now eaten up almost everything of worth. Earn money to make games > Make games to earn money. It's days like these I really hate capitalism and how money makes people greedy a-holes. Thank god for kickstarter, which isn't perfect either I know but a hell of a lot better than this nightmare.

What confuses me is why anyone would pay for a mod, when Nexus exists?

Before I get in to the minor updates we've made to the site in light of the major news yesterday I will quickly address the matter of our forums being slow and/or down.

Obviously this news has been a huge deal, and probably exploded far more than Valve and Bethesda realised it would (and not particularly positively, lets face it!). Some of the spotlight has been shined on the Nexus as a result of that. Some people have expressed concern we'll go the same way (they obviously don't read the site news) or that it'll affect us negatively some how. Everything you see here is completely free, and it's definitely staying that way. About 40 mods have been hidden in the Skyrim Nexus section since this announcement, most of which are people afraid their mods are going to be stolen and uploaded to Steam for profit. Our forums have also been struggling to keep up with the increase in traffic that's come from the spotlight being placed on us and so they've either been crawling along at a snails pace or they've been taken down by us while we try and tweak things as much as possible."

Sooo why in world would anyopne pay for Mods?

i just got up... first thing i do in saturday morning is to check what has happened while i was asleep. and i'm pretty amazed.

Steam starts supporting their workshop by allowing gamers to pay for mods (ohai, Skyrim)... Maker, how can Valve be so brilliant while EA is still in middle ages with their business ideas?

EA is stuck. They encountered technical difficulties while Inflating the balloon. :D

From the site rules (also close to what was used on the SWTOR Forums):

"If you feel someone is behaving in a manner that violates the rules, please use the report tool on the forums. Do not engage the person exhibiting these behaviors, as this is often the very response and attention they are looking for."

Stats don't lie. EA is bad for this industry.

Do you have any concrete sources for these stats? Not that I doubt them, it's EA we talk about here it's just that I didn't know there were this much information out on the new Battlefront I I would love to see the official statements for myself.

It was apparent that this is what was meant. However, what one sees as a poor design, another can bypass and avoid altogether. It may be a design that needs work, but may also not be the priority that some imagine.

Kickstarter and indies are the light iat the end of the tunnel.

Games are art. It's like when music gets manufactured and loses its soul completely. Compare that to a heartfelt tune that people will always remember.  Games are the same.

My god, just compare DAI to just DAO and it's so obvious as to how the magic that was in that game is completely gone.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Chances are that I sound like a pretentious hipster but for me it seems, as you said, that the soul, passion and the fun of making games are more or less gone from the industry.

This is a new concept and it needs tweaking. It won't be long before another company sees the greed involved and figures out a way to make a profit while supporting the modders. I think it's absolutely wonderful that modders are getting some kind of financial reward for their efforts. The only thing that bothers me is the unfair model being used right now. For every dollar spent, the modder gets 25 cents. Valve gets 75 cents. If anything, it should be a flat fee for Valve, like a $1 and let the modder charge up to $10 depending on the size of the content. Rules need to be established what is considered too big or too small for pricing, but that should be worked out in the real world over time. Anyway, I use mods on games that already have toolkits and modify those mods to work just for me. Anyway, it's far from perfect, but it's a start.

EA dropped the ball on that one by not giving us toolkits after Dragon Age Origins. Another missed opportunity...

What confuses me is why anyone would pay for a mod, when Nexus exists?

The argument there is that the quality of the mods will go up as the modders can now work full time on them and also the money serves as a carrot for people with experience from the gaming industry to do mods as well which in theory could lead to more full blown fan made expansion packs.

The problem for me though are the way this have been handled by Valve and Bethesda, they are taking 75% of the revenue which in my book is insanely greedy when they doesn't do any work at all on the mods. I much rather donate directly to a good moding project (take SkyWind for example) than buy the mod from steam when it's finished.

Non PC Concern

I needed to to get an old DVD game from the basement and noticed lots of water next to the drain off to the side of the basement stairs.  The trail brought me to the furnace, which has a humidifier but no such luck. The water tank was next but was dry. Still following the water trail I came to the source. Cold water pipe sprung a pin size leak.... just some fine spray..maybe 24 hrs old.. corner of the house. Pipe branched to kitchen sink and outside for the garden hose.

The main water valve was shut and money was spent to the local Home Depot to buy what I needed. Next I climbed onto a chair looking at the problem area with my brand new head lamp... that corner is dark.  Pin size hole was, believe or not, on the elbow and not leaking from the fitting areas. Anyway, very, very awkward with little space as the elbow wrapped around and touched the wooden joist up to a valve to shut the outside water pipe and was between two joists oh, 8 inches apart... lots of small pipe fittings... ugh!

Applying the hand held propane torch to melt the lead solder from the elbow failed. Noticed small drops of water leaking from said hole. Finally had to cut the pipe and a large amount of water spewed out... yep, water in the area will get you nowhere with the torch. Placed an endcap as a temporary solution... only affected the pipe leading to the garden hose, outside, anyway... I have time to cut the remaining pipe and put it together first before fitting the final assembly ... easier this way. Good thing I have that small skill set otherwise a weekend plumber would cost  a fortune.

Forgot about that game DVD.... decided  needed a drink and then wine with dinner.... yeah!!
