PC Community Concerns

I bought Skyrim specifically for mods. I have no problem donating if the work is of great quality but charging for mods seems like the opposite of what the PC modding community is all about. One of the biggest appeals about PC gaming is the modding community and the fact that mods (for the majority of their history) have always been free. I don't disagree with the fact that mod developers deserve some money too; hell, in many cases, I feel they deserve more money than the developers of the actual game that milked it with a mediocre value in the content. Valve and Bethesda are getting 75%, for doing nothing. Not to mention that this step will allow game developers to release the most broken game they've ever made with "Don't worry, we have modding community". Skyrim still sells a lot on steam due to mods. Why is Bethesda acting like EA?

You will be losing a lot of customers this way Bethesda and if this is to continue, count me one of them too.

Why is all this hate directed at Bethesda and Valve? This is the official Bioware & EA Haters Social Club. Enough of the off topic! Do you have any real toxic to tell about either Inquisition or Bioware/EA? Think about this before you post! This is a very friendly community but please dont disturb the healthy conversation here about how very very bad Inquisition is. Please.

er... never intended to call SoU or HotU mods; called the Premium mod package mods (ie; ShawdowGuard, PotSC, Kingmaker, etc). These mods were purchased, and Atari crushed these mods from continuation and abandoned a few like projects close to release.

As for free Player created mods really enjoyed The Aielund Saga, the series by Alezander, and Hugie mods; the latter including myself as a character among the NPC's. Also am listed among those that aided with the Pretty Good Character Creator & Customizer (ie; PGC3). So while I never made any mods myself, I did enjoy play testing and aiding some of the authors.

Seems assumptions and leaps to judgments are commonplace amongst my fans. Guess it is the price of celebrity....

Indeed!
Y'know I imagine that there is someone somewhere out there that actually likes you but for the life of me I don't understand why, unless it's a rapidly evolving single cell amoebic organism that is vulnerable to "Head and Shoulders"

I am so glad I got my refund before the time ran out.

I might pick this game back up if it shows up in a discount bin for just a few dollars. Maybe it will even be fixed by then.

A perfect description of your contribution to this topic. Couldn't have put it better myself.

No contribution, just being right. Says it all.

It did seem rather fitting given the post I answered. Thanks!

OT - Am curious as to the differences in Fire dmg; none taken in some flames, but others cause harm.

Exactly! This has been happening since page 1. No wonder Bioware could not make any sense of what to do. There is no contribution here, only hate, while Bioware still eagerly waits player feedback! Just look at the Bioware posts in this thread, they are dying to make use of the missing feedback even now even after all this unnecessary toxic behavior even after in 5 months work they completed and perfected the pc control scheme with the free mouse look and the increased zoom distance for tac-cam. Even though they did not get why it was so important (me neither.. duh, its not) they put walking in the game. To the pleasure of these toxic haters.

How can a haters club be friendly and social?

Because those that are members, are united in  a common purpose, singing from the same hymn sheet (apologies to atheists), and spend a lot of time slapping each other on the back following a particularly biting quip, or a piece of acerbic wit. The healing power of laughter at  progressively self condemning dumb ass posts bring a feeling of shared communion. But who is it we hate for doing this stuff to our beloved games? Not posters, that's for certain but organisations who use scam tactics such as using Chinese and Russian "professional game reviewers" to give highly exaggerated metacritic scores pre launch to dupe people into buying what is  at best only a mediocre game disguised with some beautiful scenery! That's before you start to compare it with previous games from this developer. The same organisations also paraded the product as a treasure chest full of golden playing experiences for pc users and others, only for openers of said trunk to find out that much of the gold was fake or that lead had been used to make up the weight of many of the pieces inside

We're cool, thanks for asking

Have to wonder why then use metacritic at all for intel, as the Player reviews can be made by non-users, has both inflated and deflated scores (many on the same day as launch, if not prior), and the site utilizes skewed algorithms. Perhaps all those known Chinese and Russian reviewers can inform us....

Buying this game and wasting 60$ was my biggest mistake of 2014. Should have guessed it before that it would turn out like this.

I have not looked at any of the details regarding the announcement by Valve and Bethesda (re: paying for mods), however, on the surface I have no issues with this at all AS LONG AS Bethesda does not now bring in a mandatory patch to Skyrim that invalidates all non-payed-for mods and restricts future mods to be those that are paid for, only. Then we have a problem.

Mods like Skyui or the unofficial patch mods better stay free. You don't get to charge for others fixing your game.

While i agree with you about the game, i have to say you must have had quite a wonderful year if this was the biggest of your mistakes! :D

The current Steam/Valve model is bad. Paying for mods that WILL break when updates are made, are not protected or expected to be updated. There is no quality control that would seemingly protect buyers from purchasing an "already broken" mod due to a publisher's update of a title. I also have a personal issue with crap being sold by a thief who is claiming responsibility for a mod that someone else made. These are very bad issues to deal with right off the bat and it's clear from the amount of dislike all over the internet, including here, that this was a bad idea. Seriously, Patreon or some other donation system is better suited for this kind of work for the time being. I believe there has to be a way to allow modders to make money, but Steam/Valve need to invest more to cover the issues I stated above.

I like innovation and I like that Steam offered this. However, I don't like the cut ratio. I feel like I'm being shaken down again to contribute money to a developer that has long since abandoned the product. It feels like a cash grab. I understand a publisher is entitled to royalties, but it should be a smaller cut than the artist is producing something today for a product no longer supported by a developer. Patreon cuts all that fat out entirely and gives it to the beloved modder who took the personal time and care to make the mod and share it with the world. Yes, the publisher loses money on the table, but the developer knows that there is  a loyal following and that is money waiting to happen with the next title. In a perfect world, modders would receive contractual work to make mods similar to ones made in the past or submit ideas to developers or studios. However, this again is a bit risky, seeing how unscrupulous developers and publishers have become. They'll steal your code if they think they can get away with it. Anyway, the more I go on about this, more I realize that Steam/Valve just opened a Pandora's Box.

Also, on a personal note, if EA was to release a toolkit for free and then expect mods to be bought made by the community, then EA had better rethink that whole idea. EA, go for it... I dare you. Bioware needs all the free help it can get by the modding community. It would go a long way to restoring ALL THE GOODWILL you have seriously crushed with each title after Origins. Those toolkits have licensing issues? Yeah, they might. I don't believe it, though.

I've playing Witcher EE and Witcher 2 on pc, using kb&m, and TW2 on console.

I know that TW2 is controller friendly, but the pc controls weren't fubar, and the interface was easy to navigate with both.

From what I've seen of the menu interface, it is again both kb&m friendly and controller friendly, with a grid system.

SkyUI 5.0 is/will be behind a paywall on Steam I've heard, author was getting slated for this. However, SkyUI 4.1 which has been in use for past couple of years is still free on Nexus.
