SkyUI 5.0 is/will be behind a paywall on Steam I've heard, author was getting slated for this. However, SkyUI 4.1 which has been in use for past couple of years is still free on Nexus.

Okay, that makes sense. Older versions free, but no guarantee that older versions will work if another update is made. Newer versions would be behind a paywall, but then it makes you think: Does this give any incentive to make a UI better by the developer or some awful way to give you a car with no air-conditioning and just an AM radio so you'd blow money on the sleeker version?

The more I read about it, the less I like it. The more it feeds into my cynicism.

....cynic. Or realist.

I know from my last mod downloads Nexus has been highlighting its donate button when you download, though I think it's poorly timed. It should pop up once you've had chance to use the mod for a bit.

My thoughts exactly. If you are using a mod and you like it, an annoying donation pop-up like WinRAR's is perfect. "Do you like my hard work? Please donate. Thank you." For those cash-poor, it's always in fashion to say something nice in the comments box. If you have disposible cash (which in this economy, most are looking at a smaller pool of reserves each year), then donate it! Help out the author! If the mod blows, no loss there. Steam/Valve may make this viable, but the growing backlash is real.

I've playing Witcher EE and Witcher 2 on pc, using kb&m, and TW2 on console.

I know that TW2 is controller friendly, but the pc controls weren't fubar, and the interface was easy to navigate with both.

From what I've seen of the menu interface, it is again both kb&m friendly and controller friendly, with a grid system.

Believe Gopher mentioned somewhere that KB&M controls were available at the event, but were not to be filmed yet. Thus his demo vid is made with a controller. And he stated that the KB&M controls seemed fine, and improvements had been made from the past games.

heh. I should be fine then, as I liked and enjoyed the previous controls. Hope improvements weren't overdone though ...

I can only see this causing steam to fall on its face. Something that has always been free now being put behind a pay wall. Mod makers may like it if it gets them paid but not the general users like us that are getting hosed.

Fortunately for you it does not matter how s**** the pc controls might turn out in any game, you like it either way. You cant tell the difference between a good one or a bad, it is actually a good thing, regardless of what you buy you never get disappointed.

Call me flip-floppity, but yeah... I'm now against the whole idea in principal. All this stuff brought up all the neat options are out there for ways to make modders some money through donations. Now, that was a positive outcome from all of this. I am also in agreement that despite what Steam does, it's execution on day one killed the idea.

Partially correct; does not matter to me as I am skipping the game and the series. No Pause feature and profanity laden dialogue nudges me to simply await for SkyWind instead. But thanks for thinking of me!

While i agree with you about the game, i have to say you must have had quite a wonderful year if this was the biggest of your mistakes! :D

Haha that is not true. I have made many crucial mistakes in 2014 but the aforementioned one is the worst because it could have been easily avoided. Alas, I was blind and got carried away by the marketing. I mean...looking at the gameplay videos I should have got the clue that things are not what they seem. Not to mention that I was planning to buy a small gift for my girlfriend using those 60$

I find it suprising profanity keeps you from playing witcher. Its not worse than this forum and you are still taking the raw profanity here relentlessly.

It has always been playable. Ask Elhanan, if you dont believe me.

For those using point-to-click or steering with a mouse in action mode... no. For those suffering from graphic issues on PC... to some extent. For those who hoped for AI, UI and other issues improved for PC optimization... no (but we finally got a storage locker). So... if you're not in the above categories... then yes.

Even WoW screwed up the modding area. They banned mods that were originally paid for. Couldn't allow the horrible modders to take money that was rightfully theirs, could they? While Chinese gold sellers were ignored and bots had free range.

All a mod does is make a feature of the game more appealing to the end user. They can take away annoying features, improve existing aspects or add aspects that were overlooked by developers.

One thing that mods do is often missed: they often negate the writers vision, nullify the designers intent, but they give choice to the player!

Want to play as a warlock? Add the class.

Why can't a mage use stealth? Add the skill.

Don't like Gaider's romance gating? Override it.

It is pride and obstinacy and choice of engine that lies at the heart of it.

Perhaps i should clarify. Can i use the tac cam inside a structure without being forced into a foot fetishist's wet dream?

Well we can forget about paid mods being a thing, at least for Skyrim but it will undoubtedly rear its head again probably for a new game:

Steam pulled the plug. Now that's having balls to admit, "Okay... I screwed up and it's not working." The backlash was significant. That's a win for the gaming community. I have a little more respect for Steam right now.
