W3 Performance

If you experience poor performance, disable HairWorks entirely. The "High" settings use HairWorks on Geralt by default and most users are reporting it tanks their performance regardless of GPU, NVIDIA or AMD.

Another reports that he's  playing on a 4770K at 4.4GHz, single AMD 290X ( CrossFire is not working yet) and 16GB of RAM. The game is running at around 50-60 fps, on High settings at 2560x1440, with Detail Level up to Ultra, and turned off HairWorks entirely and the rest of the settings are standard.

I just received a copy of Witcher 3 with my new Graphics card!

Will probably start playing tomorrow evening after I get back from work.

                                                                               <<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>

Which graphics card? Mine is not powerful enough.

Odd indeed; mine did, though Point & Click was in Tac-Cam. But the keyboard was 'fixed' on Day 1 for me.

As for TW3, here is another glowing review, though the controls get less praise:

http://www.pcworld.c...g-monsters.html

"And I also think the PC controls are not great, to say the least. After playing the tutorial I abandoned the keyboard for a gamepad—clearly the input device the game was designed around. The keyboard controls are unnecessarily convoluted, with “Dodge” for instance requiring you to press Alt and W/A/S/D at the same time. Considering how much you’re dodging, it’s a huge pain."

Pointing out the flaws of another game does not excuse the flaws of DAI.

                                                                                                 <<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>

Convoluted controls

And that is the crux of things.  The game design and combat choreography decisions... which can lead to convoluted game controls when using input device A but not B. Let's take the Dodge skill. Why have it if it becomes fluid with A but kludgy with B?  Perhaps a solution is to have an auto-dodge move.

A better solution is to analyze the combat choreography and come up with moves suitable for both gaming systems... even slightly fork the combat to suit the controls.

Got it here, I think that dodge should be implemented as a double tap thing for keyboards. As is, I just use roll to dodge, like Bloodbourne.

Agreed, as was the case with DAI.

no, I'm pretty sure DAI was completely horrific. complete change from previous titles in series and still no support for more than 2 mouse buttons

i tried playing DAI purely in TacCam mode to make use of standard click-to-move controls. It doesn't work well. It's poorly implemented C2M, the search pulse is disabled, you can't tilt the camera and you can't lock in TacCam to prevent it from switching back. So no, it's not "fixed" for anyone who wants standard click-to-move.

And once again you replied to a post with "it wasn't a problem for me, thus it shouldn't have been a problem for you"

I have to laugh when I see in your profile you claim to be a Christian. I don't recall this level of arrogance from God himself.

I can also confirm that the controls are horrific and clearly designed with controller in mind. Cheap cheap console port.

Yeah, the controls for TW3 are taxing, to say the least, but I'll get it, eventually. =)

Is there a walk toggle in TW3? Mouse button rebinding? Keyboard rebinding? How is performance? Stability? Disappointed in CDPR if they went the whole DAI route.

Sadly, no answers. All I read so far is "controls are clunky". Hell Arma 3 is a PC exclusive and the controls are clunky at default (there's TONS of options) but I could rebind them all to Ctrl-Shift-Alt-DoubleTap to all keys including the mouse and its no longer clunky despite the huge amount of options even if keys overlap (like on foot or in a heli); stance adjustment using Ctrl-WSAD, sights/scope/zoom all binded to one button - my RMB - how? Ctrl key, hold and tap. Options, makes ALL the difference.

Walk toggle/hold (movement speed control), mouse binding, keyboard binding, those are the questions I still can't find answers for. If TW3 has these options then I would not consider it a console port. If it doesn't, like DAI, then sadly it is. Then it's the whole "wait for patches" thing all over again, and we can just hope CDPR didn't move the team away from post-release support like EA did with DAI.

For me it's the whole DAI route : just being honest... Game developed for console ported to PC : BADLY ported to PC, just like DAI...

And it's even worse for me as the movement key (WASD) cannot be fully rebinded and I have an AZERTY keyboard...

Just the tutorial is a whole nightmare...

And as the game is heavy on action : I'm not even going to try to finish the game...

Sad, sad day the 19 may... Even the so-called messie of the gamers is a little devil with a lot of craps talk...

At least DAI was playable at the start with a ranged character...

JPR out

Ps : on a  more enlightened feature : the keys mapping, with a certain amount of effort, can be changed manually in the config file... So the option is here, just not fully implemented for what reason I don't know...

So, the keyboard can't even be rebinded? Hell DAI had a headstart and CDPR still fked it up.

Still, what you mean 'cannot be FULLY rebinded'? Actually I find it quite interesting that you can't even rebind the keyboard! Even in DAI you can (not to the standard of a PC game but still).

I pre-ordered for the sole fact that it's DRM-free and the direction where I want the industry to go. However it looks like along with DAI, I can't recommend the game for other PC gamers like myself who can only use KB+M.

The standard movement controls are implemented : WASD, but as an AZERTY user, it should be ZQSD...

W and S key cannot be rebinded in the option menu : period, this is just gross...

JPR out!

So you can rebind strafe left/right but you can't rebind move forward/back?! lol

*sigh* Oh well, I'm still busy as hell with Arma 3, ATW, SRR, WL2, POE, and PE anyway. Just conquered England playing the Danes in ATW and about to be backstabbed by the Geats I think. CDPR is renowned for its customer service however, then again so was Bioware. I'll keep watching...

"...and the controls are entirely workable even if you don’t have a gamepad..."

You should not give a f*** about what someone says who assumes majority wants to get at it using a damn controller... Typical gaming journalism cr** again, thanks for the link.

The game is good even if you dont have a controller for PC - wtf is this statement? lol to the pro who wrote the article

I think you are really missing the point. If you read, he started with kb+m but found them... lacking. He switched to a gamepad, for which he says the game was clearly designed, and had a better time of it. He then goes back to saying that the kb+m could be workable with rebinding and a little practice.

His point wasn't "I know you want to use a game pad" but "the game is designed for a gamepad, but can work with kb+m" He's not doing anything as a reviewer other than presenting the facts about the controls. If there is a fault here, it is with the game, not the reviewer

I normally don't use the tactical camera because it breaks my game. But, I tried it again last night (thinking with patch 7 it was fixed maybe). Horrible thing. I had to reload my last save due to my Inquisitor not fighting and just a mess.

I'd be more than just disappointed.  More and more I'm convinced that marketing is the equivalent of the old snake oil salesman.
