Okay, so the keyboard in Witcher 3 are re-bindable, mostly. Things like I for inventory, k for character sheet, etc (right side keys) are not bindable. They are locked.

Unlock DA:I, the mouse is completely rebindable, so people with issues regarding dodge... well, I bound it to my thumb button. So my only potential complaint with the controls was solved by allowing mouse buttons to be bound. I haven't tried using my gamepad to see if it's somehow "better" because I haven't had the need. It's not like it's DA:I with the worst controls for a PC game I'd ever personally experienced.

Wait, in fairness, one issue. Sometimes I accidentally hit space to try to loot instead of E... and I jump and look silly.

Elhanan, I haven't noticed any swearing yet. They have used euphemisms though. "Ploughing" for example. There was half a bare bottom in the opening scene (I honestly don't think there were breasts, might have been and I don't care to youtube it to check) but I haven't seen anything else close to nudity in the last full day of gameplay. I know in the first two games those scenes were all optional so it -may- be possible for you to play this game without exposure to the elements you'd rather avoid. I say may because I haven't played through it all and cannot be completely sure. It's very possible there has been swearing of the more conventional nature that I haven't registered.

The ability to rebind to extra mouse buttons and to switch the L--> R button was established in Patch 6.

However, you still can't rebind your regular mouse buttons (L, R, middle). No updates as to when/whether this will be available.

At least the Middle button would be a nice improvement on my side : for the autoattack toggle!

JPR out!

Thanks for thinking about this. However, from the promos themselves, as well as a few articles (one that seems to have created a buzz at CDPR), these elements are seemingly still present. This, plus the lack of Pause, and some non-bindable Keys appear to make this a pass, for now at least.

http://www.polygon.c...PC-PS4-Xbox-one

Have also noticed a few low scores appearing from Players due to controls, and to a lesser extent the supposed downgrade in graphics. The latter seems to be much ado about anything; the former is a concern, esp for those with disabilities. Most scores are high, but the low scores are fairly consistent with the same complaints from PC users.

What's happening with Witcher 3 seems all too similar to Inquisition.

Trying to appease both console and PC seems to be doomed to fail. Though we have been saying that for 6 months or more.

Microsoft and Sony will destroy gaming as we know it.

They seem to develop for consoles, then realise that there are PC users as well. Better get that UI up and running!

DAI & W3 have garbage menus, shocking inventory, etc, etc. Has Laidlaw been moonlighting for CDPR?

WASD is hard coded? WTF!

It's not restricted to Bioware evidently. Sony is the master of producing proprietary equipment that won't work on any other model.

Don't get me started on MS quality control!

------

Seriously, you create the engine separate from the controls. Then you can add the controls required. Programming 101.

Who would make the brake and steering wheel part of the gearbox?

Oh, Casey Hudson just joined MS, im sure he can find things to f*** up there too :D.

Btw is Witcher full of fetch quests and fillers too to hide they didnt do sh** for content in the open world? Is it in general the same boring grindfest with tons of mmo collection system? Does the actual story take place in the open world or is it instanced and labeled as missions like in Inquisiition? Does it seem possible to run it on a 4-5 years old system or optimizations is sh** in general?

Sound familiar?

Skyrim 41130

OMG. The dreaded hand of MS & Sony.

You are linking the site that told us the Inquisiiton pc controls were not a biggie, the world of Thedas was full of diverse things to do, and youll never get bored collecting shards. Nah, thanks. Btw from what you post to to the forum about Witcher it seems like you are interested in it. Witcher 1 had pause options and if it can be bound to one of your extra mouse buttons (deafult is space if i remember right) it can be played even without keyboard. Click to move and stuff you like.

It is quite amusing to see the forum boards of The Witcher explode with complaints.  CDRed is so much better and truly care about their community ect...

Apparantly not, it is mostly wishfull thinking on the fans part.  Adapting to controls with every new game seems to have become more strenuous over the years in every game.

Why is that?  Its much contributed to the console controller but I wander if that is even the sole reason.  Maybe for the tinyest part but the bulk reason must be something else.

Played about 10 hours so far, and your post is perfect to reflect on my experience with the game.

  • No boring fedex quest detected so far. Might be wrong, since haven't seen the entire game. But even the simpliest quest are well written and don't require to gather n pieces of useless poopoo for completion.
  • Not a grindfest
  • Open world...yes and no. The map is HUGE, but the world is split in chunks and these are HUGE as well with A LOT of room to explore.
  • Actual story take place in the world, yes, so as quests, missions, hidden missions and treasure hunts.
  • It runs VERY solid on old systems, my friends 5 year old pc isn't struggling with med-high graphics and still the game looks GORGEOUS. I can't even stress this hard enough. My first overlook from Kaer Morhen ended with me standing there for about 10 minutes, sucking it all in. Same happened when the storm came rolling at sunset, wind bends tress and raises dust from fields... Jaw hit chest many many many times indeed.

About the infamous M+KB:

The entire week prior to Witcher's release I spent playing Bloodborne/Dark Souls with controller (obviously). Going back to MKB was smooth. I didn't struggle even for a second. The controls are solid for ACTION RPG. Not CRPG -- ARPG! People who want to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride picked the wrong game indeed.

Inventory and crafting may not be perfect, but it's at least miles away from the Bio's poor take on it. At least I don't have to jug half map across to access different crafting as it done with just few clicks.

Oh did I mention? NO FREAKING PRESS V TO PING IN ORDER TO HIGHLIGHT ITEMS!

Perhaps; never read the DAI review from there, as I rarely read reviews. But this one was mentioned in other news articles as CDPR chose to respond to it, which brought it to my attention. And ironically, I cannot help but notice the number of stellar reviews that play with controllers and consoles.

And I am interested in TW3; seems to be a beautiful Open World game, and Chris Priestly has been a friend for several years. But based on the mechanics, controls, and choice to make the culture of said game more repellent than I prefer, I pass and wait for SkyWind instead.

Yeah, yeah : all the people complaining about the worse kb+m control system ever made are wrong and you're just right...

Even the professional review site give a bad evaluation of the kb+m controls and then give an astronomical note to this game : they surely play with a pad and don't bother too much about the kb+m...

I play with an azerty keyboard and was unable to finish the tutorial...

And about the game, the first difficulty is supposed to be for the people who want just enjoy the ride no? If they can go past the kb+m controls.

JPR out!

I did see this over at GOG; might be of help:

Q.: I cannot bind actions to certain keys or they don't work as intended.
A.: Good news is you can change certain keybinds, unfortunately some are hardcoded.

1. Exit the game
2. Go to //documents\The Witcher 3
3. Open input.settings
4. Let's say you want to bind interaction to F instead of E
5. Open notepad, select 'Rename' from the 'Edit' tab and change every variable from IK_E to IK_F
6. Save and run the game, then realize you still have to loot with the E key :)

The only way to bypass hardcoded binds are using a third-party software at this point. Autohotkey is a free scripting program, here's a quick guide how to change your layout.

Sounds like a game i would buy a controller for if needed, thanks! Having tactical party-based combat is a ridicoulus idea for a controller to begin with not to mention porting THAT unchanged to PC but having actual skill and reflex-based action actually suits both. Thanks for the info regarding controls too! Can you rebind all the combat related functions on the keyboard? Except WASD but i dont know why its an issue.

First Yeah, yeah : all the people complaining about the worse kb+m control system ever made are wrong and you're just right...

Even the professional review site give a bad evaluation of the kb+m controls and then give an astronomical note to this game : they surely play with a pad and don't bother too much about the kb+m...

I play with an azerty keyboard and was unable to finish the tutorial...

Second And about the game, the first difficulty is supposed to be for the people who want just enjoy the ride no? If they can go past the kb+m controls.

I feel misunderstood completely. First of: didn't claim to be the only right person here and everyone else can go suck it. Yet I did include that "The entire week prior to Witcher's release I spent playing Bloodborne/Dark Souls with controller (obviously). Going back to MKB was smooth."  It was a smooth transition. I don't own AZERTY so I can't comment on that, but QWERTY works like a charm for me!   I have 0 grudges with keyboard layout since I was expecting to get an ACTION RPG and that's exactly what I got.

Second: Yes it is, but if you expect to pause combat, click-point-ability-click, unpause - this isn't that type of game. And that's what I meant.

Can you rebind all the combat related functions on the keyboard? Except WASD but i dont know why its an issue.

I actually don't know, since I wasn't trying to rebind anything at all :( So sorry can't answer that.

I have a nice answer from TW3 support

Per CD Redprojekt Support:

I'm afraid that changing certain key-bindings is not possible for now.
The only hotfix I can recommend is to switch to an xbox pad (both 360 and x1 are compatible)

Kind regards,

OMG! what a pile of craps...

Starting now, I will go easy on the EA/Bioware support : they feel like angels after such an answer :)

I have azerty as well and did this.

Of course depending what windows you use, mine is win  8.1, I have set languages to english VS and started the game.  At least that way the controls work with z,s,q,d.  After resetting to my native lanquage and starting game again it stayed that way.  I can't remember if lanquage pack where free on win7.

At least it is playable in the native controle structure the witcher currently provides.

May try it because the wolrd is really beautifull.  On an azerty board fixed wasd keys are totally unplayable.  It seems that game devs think only querty bords exist worldwide!

I'm playing witcher 3 and the first sidequest I made was better written than any quest of DAI.

Never had any grudge with controls because its a Action RPG, so everything works great and its pretty standard action-RPG control options so the default controls works great. There are rebind options, but I'm not sure what it can and cannot be rebinded. Having a blast and 10h in I just want to keep walking to the first area. And GWENT (the card game) OH BOY....thats pretty amazing.

I feel compelled to point out that his response came from a CS support ticket, not a forum post. If you want any kind of response to what ever issue you have with DA:I, you are looking in the wrong place, you won't get one spamming the forum. Try placing a support ticket with EA.

Oh, and, their response will likely look pretty much like the W3 response. Good luck! 43395.gif
