In what ways is WASD not responsive enough?  The inertia of starting moving?  I'm not sure why would hold LMB+RMB alleviate this when at first glance it seems like it wouldn't be much different than holding LMB+RMB = holding W.

Just curious if the issue is something else and that LMB+RMB wouldn't innately fix that if that other issue wasn't addressed.

Moving your character with the mouse leaves your left hand free to press those ability buttons. Also since you have to hold a friggin button to actually attack (worst idea ever, shoot the guy who thought of that) it makes movement/ability selection difficult (imagine you have to press and hold R to attack and use  wasd at the same time or hold the lmb and use the rmb to move the camera around).

Have not read the entire thread, but am very pleased that Bioware/ Allan has been responding and listening to input.

One request I have is not a major issue, but is one commonly seen is if there was a way for the Followers to auto-harvest resources if illuminated. Perhaps certain Followers could be assigned specific resources, or maybe an Auto-Harvest feature could occur in a certain radius of the character could be implemented. It is often difficult to get close to some items, or even see them against the background, and in some cases one continues to inch forward to activate the center trigger; can be frustrating.

Thanks again for the great game, as well as the time spent to improve it! :)

Any Bioware developer reading this, really, all you need to do is use DA:O and to a lesser extent DA2 as examples of how keyboard and mouse, and controls in general should work on DA:I.

I kinda beggars belief that actual customers are having to do this, as it should have been deeply rooted in the design documents several years before the game was released.

Please keep us updated. I flat out refuse to play this game until the PC version is put into the proper state. Galls me that I don't have the option for a refund, given I didn't buy direct from Origin.

I don't know if this qualifies as 'PC Community concern', since it probably only affects a minority of players....but...what about Qunari armors?

I have 3 different visual styles on my Qunsitor. Starter armor, DLC dragon armor, pyjamas.

To be honest, I was confused that I didn't find other armors, but it really only became a problem when I added Iron Bull to my party.

I give him one of my Qunsitor's old armors, and he is wearing plate armor. Looks cool. I put it back on my Qunsitor, suddenly it has the visuals of the DLC dragon armor. That's not so cool. Nothing against the style of the DLC armor, but wearing the same visual style over the course of the whole game?

I was unable to find an answer if this is a bug or just how it is....maybe it was already written, but I have some troubles finding my way in forums ^^"

While I have hope that it is just a bug and you guys will be able to fix it...there's a little evil background voice whispering in my head, telling me that there wasn't enough time for Qunari armors or something like that....and it's unsettling.

It would be cool to get an official, definitive answer.

Sorry if it sounds rude or doesn't make much sense, my English is rather limited.

... and there is definitly room for improvement in da:i, but dont expect a full mouse and keyboard optimized ui like in divinity original sin (sadly).

Except that is exactly what was promised.  When someone says there will be a specific PC UI, what else is one to expect?

By using LMB + RMB to move my character forward means I can navigate both the camera and my character with one hand leaving my other hand free to use abilties, jump, cycle through targets, etc..

I agree, there are very few Qunari armor styles which is unfortunate. I've had 3 distinct looks throughout the nearly 80 hours I've played so far. As for why Iron Bulls armor look didn't transfer to you, all companions are meant to have unique styles and that style won't carry over to the Inquisitor.

So how do you think the new GTX 970 will perform?? The GTX 980 is out of my budget

I'm running on a supposedly sub-standard PC (3 Gig single-core, 6 Gig RAM, GTX 580) and the game runs just fine on "high" at about 40 FPS.

Not to speak for abearzi, but melee combat, mostly because of the lack of auto-attack and auto-follow, is an absolute mess. I've switched to playing on casual because every time a shade pops out at me while I'm trying to close a rift and starts beating me over the head, all my character does is stop trying to close the rift and doesn't hit back at the shade.

Steering my character toward the bad guy using WASD and then targeting him and then mashing R is... well, kind of ridiculous. I can't just press W to get to my target. The easiest thing for me to do is use one of my abilities to jump to him and then keep mashing R. Honestly, my favorite class is the DW Rogue, and I hate playing it because of the combat. I've never been a huge fan of combat anyway and I can adjust to WASD controls, but the lack of auto-attack and auto-follow makes combat downright painful, even in casual.

And please correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I'm getting from your posts, it's sounding more and more like we're not going to get click to move or click to move to loot. I don't want to buy a controller, but I'd rather know sooner rather than later instead of hoping I'll get by until it gets patched, only to have it never get patched because of the, "I played with WASD and thought it was fine" mentality.

And really, I couldn't give a rat's about jumping, so I don't care, and am not sure why it's a feature that anyone cares all that much about. No, you can't get past the prologue without it, but that's only because of the barrier you've specifically designed so that you have to jump to get through the prologue.

You guys really do have a great game from what I've seen so far, but it's so lacking in the controls for the PC that the experience of playing it is marred.

This. Dragon Age Origins was a great RPG, I'm still playing it right now. Dragon Age 2 was...well, was bad. I don't want to lie, it was a very bad game.

I can pass on the gameplay issues like too much fetch quest and quest markers but the combat system should be like Origins, or at least very close to its.

Don't know if this has been adressed but or if it's PC only but either WASD or Tac Cam point and click, you use shield wall, and while using it, you get stuck in that stance, the only way of breaking out of it is by using the attack key instead of just pressing the key bind of Shield Wall that usually deactivates it. Keeps happening to me all the time, I'm blocking, I press again to "unblock" without wanting to use auto attack so I can quickly move away, but he gets stuck in shield wall mode, and walking slowly, only breaking if I use the auto attack and waste time having to wait out the animation, in nightmare mode its a big deal. It seems to me like it happens a bit more when the stamina of the character is already low, like if you were trying to use stamina to deactivate shield wall and didnt have enough to use it, but since its a mode that has no cost, doesn't make sense.

I do think that aside from the issues involving the freezing on the menu screens and other UI problems the low FPS issues should be looked at.

One of the posts in this thread implied it was not a priority strictly speaking.

I think it should be because many PC users have complained with regards to the fact it doesn't matter what graphics setup you are using ingame, the FPS is lousy.

8 to 10 FPS in Haven surely is unacceptable? I have a GTX760, quad core processor, and 8Gb of RAM and I cannot play this on medium without stutter, slowdown, and the entire thing becoming a slideshow and I know I am not the only one with a problem like this, far from it.

I could even live with the fact that the menu screen locks up consistently after 10 to 15 seconds if something could just be done to fix the framerate issues, the game looks gorgeous but if you can't actually play the thing then all that good work has gone to waste, surely? The performance graphically is terrible whether I am at ultra settings or medium or a mix of somewhere in between, surely that must be considered an issue?

Plenty of people have fed back about this as they have fed back about the menu issues and so forth.

I've seen some people say SWTOR has "click to move" which... make me think some are talking about something different than myself?

When I say click to move I am thinking of "click on the terrain, my character pathfinds to that terrain."  Not using the mouse to run forward or anything like that (i.e. clicking and holding LMB + RMB).  Or did SWTOR actually have "click on terrain and move there" and I don't remember? (I haven't really played it since March 2012).

in swtor like in DAII and DAO you could click on the terrain to select a location to move to. and then have the character move there without any additional inputs

Hey Alan,

What about all those bugged quests are they being worked on?.For example Way of the Assassin questline is bugged after you flood Crestwood you can no longer finish it and get an entire subclass, it's a shame cause i was looking forward to become an assassin since that was what i was playing in origins too.

Those are game breaking bugs i don't really care about fixing controls so much as i care about experiencing the full content of the game i purchased.

And if they are being worked on when should we expect a patch not for the controls overhaul just to fix those bugged quests? any ETA is appreciated.

Ty in advance!

It depends on what you mean by "trouble." Strictly speaking, I do not believe that the GTX 770 is strong enough to play this game on ultra (at least not at 60fps). We are transitioning into a new stage of graphical fidelity, and the 770 is beginning to show its age.

I haven't seen any evidence that makes me think it shouldn't be able to handle it on high. However, I am willing to accept that if someone can prove it. I'll always be the last person to cry "poor optimization" before I have ruled out my own hardware as an issue.

The official recommended settings are not evidence? How they get that specs, they build a pc with that characteristics and tried the game? how could that be the recommended hardware if we only get 40fps average on high? it should be 60fps. I know for sure tha ultra need more powerfull hardware, but high? It should just good enough.

Dear Allan Schumacher :)

Okay... Controlls...
After 60h I got mostly used to it.
I never had a problem with WASD and RMB for exploring. Played DAO and DA2 (and every other rpg like game) this way.
Just changed the keys (scan on E / interact on R / attack on F) and now I am happy running around exploring.

What confused me was combat controlls.

Because basically its a mixture of classical DA controlls and action based like Tera.

I like both styles, but this in between confused the hell out of me.

I don't know how long I thought I have to permanently click on the enemy to attack AND look at them ... XD

I am still playing as if it is an action based game, wiping my cam around every time my Rouge makes a fast skill to keep the enemy in the imagined crosshair... Muscle memory, played to many action based mmos over the last few years I think. XD

So either you make it truly action based:

Camera locked onto mouse without holding RMB to move camera and moving with WASD

Walking when pressing RMB and LMB

Crosshair, no auto lock onto random enemy but lock onto the enemy I have currently in the crosshair - with more generous targeting for range DDs (I often don't really know which enemy I am locked onto...)

If I am not in range no auto run to enemy

LMB Basic Attack

RMB Skill 1

Other skills on numbers (this way we would have at least 1 skill more)

No auto walk to enemy loot etc but auto loot after pressing interact key within a certain radius

OR you reroll the classic DA mechanics.

Click and auto walk to a enemy and auto attack

Click to walk (which is only possible when there are no stones, mountains etc in the way)

Click to walk and loot

Walk with RMB and LMB

Etc. Etc.

OR you do both.

Action based in "normal" mode AND classic in a polished Tactic Screen / Tactic Mode

Edit: Even thou I would prefer Classical DA controlls. Feels just more like a Dragon Age. But I COULD  live with both. It's just this halfway in between I don't like.

Just my thoughts on the whole thing after all this hours.

So if my first post here was a little bit angry and ranty, I apologize. I just didn't understand what the hell was going on. Serves me right for clicking away all the tutorial pop ups. :-/

Now everybody can hate me for suggesting action based controlls. :-p

Allow me to stress that I believe it could be much better to have a Jog as default with a walk/run toggles and it will still be a low cost change to boot.

This is an interesting one and some games offer this. However, it might be difficult if the animations have not already been done. I suspect not and I'm sure you'll realise that it would also require multiple animation schemes because of character builds/physique and then male and female of course. Sadly then I don't think this is likely unless it already exists. :/

both animations Walk/Jog/Run are yet ingame ... they have been made for consoles from PC ! You will even get the opportunity to test them on your PC after the  avalanche event in the main story for a few meters ...

PC Community ? But what about Playstation/Xbox community ? I'm playing on PS4 this really great game but just one major issue ruins everything, the well known error ce34878-0 that makes the game crashes..I already lost a save file because of that. Delete and instal the game again didn't change anything. Hope this can be fixed :(

Sorry for my limited

My brother has a ps4 and he sometimes gets that error message when the game disk is dirty (fingerprint or smudge) and occasionally due to issues with the game itself... and then he has to wait for a patch. Fortunately its happened fairly rarely, but the couple of times he's frantically called me over to help fix his problem, I've noticed how incredibly unhelpul Sony is. They've learned wonderful things from MIcrosoft. ;)

Do you have a problem?   Reformat your whole sytem  . Nuke it all .  That'll fix your problem :P . Oh and don't forget to submit a technical report (we probably won't read it ;) )

No, it should be classic even in third person mode. It's (or at least should be) a party based RPG, not an Action/RPG. Dragon Age is not The Witcher, let Dragon Age be a true Dragon Age.

Or at least, give to the player the possibility of choice.

I thought you might have. I was just commentating on how unfair it is for console users to be held up by and arbitrary error that you don't even have a hope of fixing yourself 90% of the time. That and how useless Sony's advice is unless it actually is an install/ps4 driver related issue
