Apparently, according to the Bioware elite list, regards to the truth: we are doing it wrong.

Darrah's advertising the joy of this game on PS4 and the actual founder couldn't give a turd. Smells like a casacading top down culture of communications failure to me.

Someone with the skills should post Darrah's public Twitter background and RayMuzyka's public Twitter feed.

Im looking at Ray's twitter feed right now and all I see are political posts and things about Ferguson..

Nevermind I see it..

It's also important to note that people felt like going after Ray, who no longer works with BioWare, because of a comment that he was going to play on the Xbox One.

No one deserves harassment, but messaging him wouldn't be productive if your goal was to provide feedback and awareness towards the PC issues.

Can you post this Twitter harrassment you infer and are sensitive about from people?

Are you saying "people" as a cultural nation of gamer persons on PC or "people" as a group of persons in general?

What is this people to whom you refer?  And would you mind making a correction if you find you are in the wrong?

PLEASE.

I am not able to get this to show the whole conversation - the question that started this off.  Perhaps someone with the skills can?

It might also help Allan who is intent on circling the Bioware wagons to note that the people of harrassment counts precisely of one indian and one question seeking comment. I wish this company were as eager to release a great game for PC as it is quick to stem any sign of self-perceived harrassment.

Obviously someone at Bioware immediately got a "memo" about the question. So win for the question.

So how do you think the new GTX 970 will perform?? The GTX 980 is out of my budget

When the game is loaded it looks fabulous.

My system is a i5-3330, GTX970, and 8gb of RAM. I'm still looking at upward of 30 seconds for loading screens. Sometimes longer for the game to load to the main menu.

To be fair, from what I can tell by following the link, it was Twitter users who replied to Muzyka who were tossing around accusations of lying and trolling. Muzyka mostly just seems indifferent to PC users' concerns. :(

The man is no longer a developer and is enjoying the game as a gamer. It´s not only highly inappropriate but useless to get on his case.

Ok so I've played over 75 hours of this game and I love all of it (even the PC controls) but I can't have the meeting with Hawke . If I pick the default the game shuts down, no error, nothing, just closes. If I pick the custom it switches my voice. I have nothing against the voice actor for the American voice but I'd really like to keep my dwarf inquisitor with the smooth British voice. I've been kept from playing the story for about a week now. That's a week of just side quests and while they're great and fun, I just really want to progress my story. And speaking of side quests the snowy wyvernn isn't showing up at all. Other than that I really have no issues with the game. I personally like the new controls, they keep me engaged and on point in combat. So all this considered, is there any hint of a release date for a patch you guys could give us? I'd really just like to play the story. Thanks!

Everyone needs to take a deep breath and realize that not all PC users are having problems.  Also, there is no way Bioware can test every bastardized implementation of a video chip/processor/motherboard.

I run the game on a laptop (albiet  a beast of a laptop) that has an Nvidia GTX 675MX in it (solidly medium spec) and I get 30-40fps with textures and meshes on ultra and just about everything else on high.  I find that framerate to be very playable and the graphics are beautiful.  I'll post the video settings I'm using at the end of this post.

During my initial play, the game locked up constantly during conversations and cutscenes.

I restarted the game about 10 hours in to fix the "male addressed as a female problem" (switching genders back and forth on creation seems to have worked for me).  Since doing so, I find that the game rarely locks up anymore.  I've played for the last three evenings with perhaps one lockup during all that time.

I think that the male/female bug is just a symptom of a much larger problem, which was likely the cause of my early crashes.

The tactical camera sucks.  As others have mentioned, you can't zoom out far enough and not all abilities are usable from tactical.

RMB mouselook:  Seriously people?  The mouse spring probably takes less than an ounce of pressure to depress.  Does your other finger ache from pressing the 'W' key?  Gimme a break.

Mouselook toggle would be nice though.

Graphic settings:

I turned on FXAA in the Nvidia control panel

Mesh Quality: Ultra

Tesselation: Off

Texture Quality: Ultra

Shadow Quality: Medium

Terrain, Vegetation, and Water Quality: High

Post Processing Quality: Low

Ambient Occlusion: Off

Effects Quality: High

Post_Processing Antialiasing: Low

Multisample Antialiasing: Off

Hi Allan,

Thanks very much for being so interactive with us regarding our PC-related issues. It's really heartening to know that a developer is taking time out of their work to engage with the customers.

I thought I'd just really briefly discuss my concerns as a PC gamer (since Police Quest on a DOS machine). I'd also like to preface these remarks by saying that I've played over 70 hours of DAI so far, and am thoroughly enjoying it, in spite of some of the annoyances I'm experiencing.

The most serious concern for me, like all these people before me have brought up, is the mouse and keyboard control scheme. I've gotten used to holding down the right mouse button in order to look around as I make my way about the world. It solves any issues I have with the strafing key choice. What I still struggle with however, is targeting enemies during fights. They are a lot more visually hectic than DAO, which can make finding the cursor a little difficult. In some respects I think this could be solved by having the old click-to-move/attack system, as I won't need to worry about holding down an attack button while I search for targets. Once less thing to worry about.

The other major issue I'm having, which I'm sure irks many PC gamers, is that the menus and user interface are designed with consoles or gamepads in mind. Correct me if I'm wrong, it's just that some of the issues I've experienced (which are becoming par for the course in multi-platform games in general) seem to point to this. Firstly, the size of the interface on a 2560x1440 monitor is really massive and somewhat obtrusive. Given that console games often struggle with having an interface that's too small, I think I can see where this is coming from. An option to downsize the UI would be really great, as it would let us get more enjoyment of the aesthetic qualities of the game (it really looks great). Consider the interface in Origins, which gave the same information but was far smaller and less obtrusive.

Secondly, I find that navigating the menus with the mouse is often a chore. Origins made it very simple to compare items and armour, whereas doing so here requires me to sub-navigate too many times to do so. I often find myself using the up-down keys to navigate the menus, as the mouse often doesn't seem to register. This is certainly something I've noticed in several other AAA titles over the past several years, which I think points to the fact that the functionality design had consoles predominantly in mind.

I'm not sure what it would take the change that having no actual knowledge on how these things work, but I'd really like it to be easier to use the mouse. This extends beyond the game menu and inventory to the dialogue wheel and the war table (when choosing the Fereldan or Orlais sides).

All said and done, I really enjoy the game and most of these issues are merely niggling annoyances. But being the lawyer I am, those little details are things I can't manage to put out of mind.

Again, I really appreciate your coming here and answering our concerns, and I look forward to the first patch. For now, back to the game...

Brogan, Have you read the outright denial from RayMuzyka's Twitter feed? I cannot use quotes here (not skilled enough) but basically every one here is a liar according to that lot. And the article with the poll by IncGamers is a trolling pile of lies.

I see I have my reading - 30 fresh new pages of lies from you liars on PC - cut out for me.  Truly it is like a PR fiasco of epic proportions that just continues to grow because the people involved who are in the wrong 1- Refuse to take responsibility; 2- Deny empathy to those wronged; and 3 - Blame the victim.

It would make me  feel dirty to be associated with such a company as Bioware.

may i know why are u disturbing a guy who is no longer with BioWare?

if he likes the game, he likes it. It may have something to do with because this is the company he has set up but it may not as well. why all the accusations?

if i were him, i would be seriously annoyed people are asking me about a game i am no longer in charge of and blaming me for the problems they are having.

The current button setting "auto-run" seems to be more for "run without holding a button" type of auto-run.

Thank you for this reply. I had misunderstood that key's function. Now I've been using it to traverse long distances while controlling my character with RMB and it is quite useful.

Whether or not Dragon Age: Inquisition is broken for all PC users is a moot point. A significant number of us are unable to play the game on our machines, and it warrants discussion. There's a reason this thread is called "PC Community Concerns".

As for the seriousness of the KB&M issues, several gamers with disabilities have already taken the time to thoroughly explain them in this thread. Seeking out those posts and educating yourself would probably be a better use of your time than getting offended. ;)

I don't know if this is significant, but I just ran around a bit in the problem area that I have observed in Haven.

I was using MSI Afterburner to monitor my GPU usage and the utilization on my CPU cores. At no point was everything maxed out. The GPU usage hovered around 90%, even as the frame rate dropped into the 40s. The cores seemed fine as well. From what I could see, they were never all maxed out at once. At most, one of them would be around 90%, while the other three were around 70%. I'm currently taking a real time systems class at my university, and 70% utilization is very healthy. It provides plenty of room for hiccups in the program (at least in an embedded system, though I see no reason why a regular computer should be different).

I guess what I'm saying is that I have no idea why my rig is struggling to keep the game at 60fps. There seems to be plenty of extra room for it flex its muscles (please correct me if I am wrong in this). Also, something I forgot to consider; if my GTX 770 was honestly struggling to keep a consistent frame rate, wouldn't the temps be a bit higher? So far they have been really mild.

These numbers really lead me to believe that some other factor is to blame.

IN THE CATEGORY OF GIVE THE DEVIL HIS DUE....

Allan, below are excellent examples from you on how communications is done - and should be done at Bioware. If you do not have a PIO, and a PIO is sorely needed as this situation demonstrates, I highly recommend you look into the job. Sincerity and empathy are on display in your interaction and, while you do not know the answer to everything, you are not required to in the context of making acknowledgement. PR is not about being good at lying or obfuscation. It is about being good at dialogue. It is not about selling something or waiting for your turn to talk (advertising). It is about listening (relating - communing).

And your posts below demonstrate that - in your case. Unfortunately you mention you are not a sanctioned voice. You are doing outreach on your time from your own goodness of heart. My hat is off to you for making that commendable effort to connect with the people here who feel disconnected and disenfranchised by the catchers-catch-can shadowplay communications of Bioware’s shifty used car salesmen. My kudos goes to you, however, and extends to your company only so far as it authorizes you to speak on its behalf (which it does not at this time).

I do not want to come off as holier than thou or convey some a diploma on PR how-to. I want to say the lack of openness I was watching happen and the lack of empathy I was reading, prior to your posts below, just ground my gears on multiple levels: consumer, professional, and human being.

Thank you for taking the chance to dialogue with us and for approaching us with respect. I hope it continues right up until the end of this topic.

Just as a note since some people I think think I'm some PR rep or "PIO" or whatever.  I'm a dev that worked on this game for 3 years, so when I respond it's "a member of the staff" that's responding.  In fact, the last 1.5 years I was on the combat team as a QA embed and in fact Tactical Camera was even one of the systems I supported (set phasers to stun).  I was the one that signed off on the system from a QA perspective across all 5 platforms including both M&KB and controller support for the PC.

While I'm technical quality assurance (I do more system based testing, so I make sure the system itself is working as expected and to specification, I don't play through the game consistently or anything like that), I did help organize content QA (the ones that play through the content more consistently and systematically) to play through the game entirely through Tac Cam.  Our goal was to actually let the game be playable in its entirety in Tactical Camera mode, but those playthroughs saw, frankly, really bizarre (and often fatal) issues under a wide variety of disconnected circumstances relating to looting, transitions/triggers, as well as interacting.  Some of them we had to fix (transitions/triggers) because we definitely wanted players to be able to enter Tactical Camera at their convenience (very useful for starting fights) rather than restrict it to the player being in combat.  Others were complicated and erratic enough fixes that they ended up disabled.

As for the strengths of the PC and the PC fanbase, there starts to come into the kind of existential "What does it mean to be a PC gamer?"  I'm a PC gamer too and have been almost exclusively since 1999 (Half-Life). I have heard that somewhere there has been some people pointing to the fact that I use a controller in my Let's Play as an indictment towards M&KB controls.  I do have a preference to the controller for DAI, but I think it's important to acknowledge that throughout much of development I was supporting 5 different platforms, 4 of which required me to use the controller.  It's what I'm most experienced with.  But it also comes down to what, I think, are different things that we demand from PC gaming.

For myself, I love PC gaming for its flexibility.  Mouse and Keyboard does provide fantastic strengths for games that many controller exclusive games cannot provide.  At the same time, I've owned a controller for my computer since 2002 going back to the Gravis Gamepad Pro.  I've also owned a Saitek gamepad and now use a 360 gamepad which sits next to my Saitek joystick.  I was disappointed that we didn't ship with controller support for DA2, and delighted when I heard that we were going to officially support it for DAI.  For me, that's a huge strength of the platform.  I want to stress that this does not invalidate other people valuing the platform in a different way.  It's why I was able to play a game like Dark Souls, where I was able to leverage superior hardware to endure places like Blighttown (notorious for poor performance) despite having a M&KB control scheme that I found awkward to play with as well.

I did, however, use the M&KB controls during development.  I also took a quick jaunt through them just now through the prologue just to familiarize myself with them again.  As a PC gamer, the M&KB controls for DAI aren't a huge issue for me.  Many of my biases will influence this I suspect.  I'm naturally a WASD player with M&KB anyways, so that adjustment "made sense" for me.  I'd like to see wider loot radius (especially since jump and interact are different buttons on M&KB and won't conflict), and I think remapping mouse controls (as well as Tactical Camera controls) would probably help me put the control scheme in a way that requires the least amount of adjustment.  That said, the way the controls stand now I don't think they'd impact my own enjoyment of the game very much beyond the short term adjustments.

But if you value other stuff as a PC gamer then yeah, I can see how we have that disconnect in terms of how acceptable the PC controls are.  It's further understandable when looked at the context of expectation based on previous games.  I don't feel I'm being dishonest when I say I think the PC game experience for DAI is enjoyable, but again that doesn't mean you're being dishonest either when you say that you find it frustrating, unexpected, and unpleasant.

Maybe not necessarily the "best" post you're looking for from a staff member working on the game, but at the very least I do hope you believe that it is a sincere one.

Take care.

It can be yes. Sometimes you're okay with edge cases being unsupported and/or communicated in a low cost way too, though.  So while it may be more involved to have a flashing GUI with localized text string pop up saying "Pathfinding not found" or something, maybe we communicate it in a way via patch notes "we've added this thing, note that if it doesn't work in these conditions here's why" might be a "good enough" for most.

So we wouldn't necessarily be handcuffed, just trying to illustrate how the process may go and some of the things we end up considering.

For sure.  My question was more about making sure I understood what people were talking about just to make sure that we were on the same page.

Some very strange behaviour and I'm sure points to optimisation issues in the render engine itself or drivers also. Other times I have had very large commit with virtually nothing happening. ;)

Aside from a few minor glitches, my game does run smoothly. However, the worst bug I'm getting is the CTD related to my Nvidia card/Direct X.

I'm using : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760

I crash to my desktop once or twice per day, usually during a cutscene (which kills the immersion). I don't get any FPS issues during cutscenes, but I do get tiny parts of the audio and visual getting cut off. I guess that is the said hitching issue?

EMPATHY EMPATHY EMPATHY

is all u are shouting and complaining about.

your horrible accusations and demands shows u have zero empathy yourself.

these devs are people too. and if they made a game u hate, just give constructive comments and either get a refund or refuse to buy their games anymore. tbh, i will be more than glad to lose a customer like u.

all u are saying are these people lack empathy and sincerity because there is no transparency. Do u really know them in person? they have families and friends and personal life too. they cannot reply to u 24/7. who are u that they must reply to?

u don't give a damn do u? so don't give a damn and keep ur unsympathetic and rude comments to yourself.

don't expect empathy when u have none yourself.

and yes, u disgust me as much as the devs have disgust u. probably more and there is no way i want to know u as a person.

@Allan Schumacher

So, please, yes or no (see bellow)?

Bioware, please, just state one thing:

AT LEAST these three problems bellow will be fixed accordingly, please, YES or NO (?):

_Camera zoom (more, on all modes, specially the Tactical Camera mode)

_Click to move and orders available in pause mode (not ONLY in tactical camera mode)

_AI keeping commands, orders, given in Tactical Camera Mode even when you leave it (Tactical Camera mode).

Does anyone actually disagree that, aside from performance issues, these are indeed the worst problems with game PC gameplay of DragonAgeInquisition right now?

Please, constructive answers. Let's just try to pinpoint the main problems with the game's gameplay and focus on what must be corrected ASAP. To me, and I do believe to most of you as well (PC gamers), the problems above are the three MAIN things that really keep me from enjoying and managing DragonAgeInquisition combat. Specially when playing at harder difficulties.
