Ending up in limbo after character creation o_o

I've encountered a very specific bug whereby, upon finalizing character creation, the player will not be placed into the story but instead into a glitched "limbo" area where they cannot die, leave, or in any other way begin the story. The setting appears to be the backdrop for character creation, and includes the ominous tower your character runs up to try and reach the glowing figure. I can run around on the terrain, but do nothing else.

Near as I can tell the trigger for the bug is very specific. I am playing on the PC and using an Xbox 360 controller. I make all the customizations to my character's face as normal and hit "Y" to finalize my character. I am presented with the option to hit "X" to rename them. I do so, and have to use the keyboard to enter the name. Now. If I press ENTER to finalize my name input, it appears I always end up in limbo. The only way to avoid limbo is by making SURE I press "A" on the controller to finalize the rename. This is easy to forget as it's pretty automatic to hit enter quickly after typing an input.

Needless to say, this was extremely frustrating to discover after spending a good half hour getting my character to look just right. Thankfully I took a screenshot to go off of for next time =) That said, I'm loving the game and can't wait to get further into the story! Well done Bioware. Just wanted to bring this to light as it's certainly a frustrating one.

This has happened to me too on the PC version, although I'm not using a Xbox controller. After the first cutscene, my character got stuck in that scenario and I couldn't do anything. It's a huge glitch worth investigating.

Adjicio, were you able to play the game after the second attempt?

Yes, I was definitely able to play just fine by simply retrying. This has happened to me at least 3 times, so I've become very practiced at quickly keying in my character's appearance =P

Did both of you rename your character? If so - this is just a guess - can you actually CLICK on accept instead of hitting enter? Maybe that has the same effect as hitting A on the controller. Then again it may just be random and my pressing Enter/A was only coincidental.

I made a second attempt and finally got through. Yet the glitch occurred to me again while I was creating another character. I did rename my characters and clicked accept in all 3 tries, and I got the glitch 2/3 times. I doubt clicking/pressing Enter has much of an impact...

Try starting a new game with all settings on lowest (Low). It did it for me.

Well, the game isn't pretty at all, but at least you get past the character creation and can be allowed to make your first save.

It seems as it it is a DirectX runtime problem. It will probably soon be fixed. We just have to wait.

It's a common problem with people who've changed it so that cutscenes are 60FPS.

It also appears to happen for a few others and the solution is to just lower settings.

Thanks for the replies! I'll do that next time as a temporary fix. I hope they do address it in the near future though!
