I only get mad at the Tactical mode. It's absolutely ridiculous. Used my X360 controller just to give it a try and it's much better.

One of these days maybe I'll understand how the controller improves anything.

Assuming you have the use of both of your hands and don't have a baby on your lap or anything.

True. I don't imagine one-armed players and households without cribs made the list of design constraints.

I get the impression you've never tended an infant.

There are no breaks.

Its different and we just need to get over it until its modded.. I find it challenging and fun.. if you wanna walk around and see half the world glowing thats your call. I like listening to the tone of the dings and searching for what im looking for.

As far as combat I think it feels more real.. to have to manually move towards your target and attack.. Clicking and auto running to it just gets old after awhile.. this makes it more interesting and more involved.. but thats just my opinion

hey, you may be right.  I have yet to install the thing, I am just going by what people are saying.

The idea of me being OK with this new system and getting used to it...  is not something I am totally ruling out.  Never has been, or I wouldn't have pre-ordered from Amazon.

The thing is, this is the 3rd game in a series which when you talk about control schemes, there was not too much to complain about and when you looked forward to what they had in mind for Inquisition, there was alot to be excited about because logically, they'd be using what worked and adding ontop of it this great new worldspace that could only increase the epic-ness of the series.

But that all takes a back seat now, unfortunately, for me.  Because I think they changed things without certain people having the chance to chime in with some thought and reason and say, 'Hey, why are we doing this so differently again?'

Controls are a bit awkward, but not worth getting in a tizzy about.  You don't have to repreatedly click to attack, you can hold the button down, or stay in tactical mode if you prefer that.

Nope. But... so what? You can't be seriously arguing that all games should be playable with an infant in your lap.

RPGs are typically playable at the player's own speed.  I've argued before that a CRPG should be playable by a quadriplegic - playable slowly, but playable.

Inquisition would be easily playable one-handed if they let us map commands to non-keyboard input devices.  Or map mouse commands to the keyboard.  But as long as the game requires (unnecessarily) two devices to be used in concert, the game is less accessible than it should be.

I do prefer that.

And given how strange the control scheme is, there is a risk that if I do manage to get used to it I won't like whatever changes they do make.  So I hope they leave in the option to keep the controls as they are.

I expect I wouldn't use such an option, but just in case.  After all, clearly they thought the control scheme they skipped was good - surely they wouldn't just throw that away.

I'm taking all this bitchin' bout controls and menus and **** with a grain of salt because I have never, not ever, found reasons to complain about menus or controls. Not even vanilla Skyrim's. The only exception would be trying to play Prince of Persia on my pc once, that was horrible. And maaaaaaybe Assassins Creed. I have not this many fingers Ubisoft.

The only complaint on PC I actually had about vanilla Skyrim's UI is that it was buggy. You could click on one dialogue option and have a completely different one actually get selected.

Of course I still use SkyUI just because I do find it nicer to use than the vanilla one for inventory management.

Yup, and this is shocking to say the least that in 2014, you can't remap commands to your mouse buttons, or map to your 3rd, 4th, and scroll mouse buttons.

Even BF4 (which uses the same engine as DAI) allowed that without any patching at all.

KB/M is not bad at all in this game, however nor is a controller (especially XBox).  The main differences IMO are, that the controller feels a bit smoother since so many things are controllable ---- you'd think that was a sales pitch for KB/M however they really did an amazing job with the controller, just like DA:O.

Both are good in their own right however me feeling that way does not mean everyone else does.

No, it clearly does not mean that.
