From what I understand, you need to finish the first big story arc for this to come up. The time involved could vary wildly from person to person.

You might as well say Hawke since that is literally the only person whose appearance we'd have any reason to change and who comes with a voice.
Having braved the relevent topics in the spoiler forum (while thankfully remaining unspoiled) it is being said that customising "the other character" (as if we don't know who we're talking about) doesn't necessarily SWITCH your Inquisitor's voice, so much as RESET it back to the default voice.
So if you're using the UK voice for an elven inquisitor, it'll stay UK. If you're using a US voice for an elf, it will switch. If you're using a UK voice for a qunari, it will switch... etc.
I wonder if anybody has an experience to dispute this?
From what I've gathered over a couple of forums, the bug seems to effect people who changed the voice from its default setting. So if you have an elf/human with the British voice or a dwarf/qunari with the American voice, chances are you'll be fine.
Beaten! But I can verify that I did not experience the bug with my British-voiced elf.
Thankfully I use default, feel bad for those who got the glitch though.
I might be doomed then... I chose a non-default voice for my character. :-/

I'm happy with either voice so it wont break the game for me. I would rather have a custom somebody than keep my original voice. But thanks for the warning.
What is the default voice for humans?
English. for human and Elf
American for Dwarf and Qunari

This may actually work for me. I've decided I am not fond of my voice choice. Sounds too much like a voice actress from Skyrim. I hope I get to this part of the game before they patch it.
It's funny you say that. I would have bet money that the American female voice was Joan Allen, who voiced Delphine in Skyrim. But I looked for her in the credits and she wasn't listed.
The following post is to people who are saying that they "wont play anymore if this isnt fixed" or "its gamebreaking" - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - you guys didnt play destiny at all did you? At least most of the bugs on this game are cosmetic and can be ignored mostly until their fixed. Destiny, there were issues that caused entire raids to wipe, or tears to stream from your face, or anger incarnate -
