I feel like because it's Hawke that he/she would some how survive and find a way out, obviously they didn't in game but idk Hawke always seemed lucky to me  :P

...id argue about that whole lucky part....

But yeah, I must be one of the rare people who didn't hate hawke, had stroud as the warden, and still chose to escape with stroud. In my game hawke had just been through too much, lost her family and killed her lover, and she made a good point about stroud being responsible for fixing the wardens. Her death was also a catalyst for my inquisitor, it was the last straw that made him despise and exile the wardens. Also it was a heroic way to go, and I couldnt think of a better way for hawke to go out then to go out swinging protecting thedas.

If however she didn't die I would be disappointed as it would cheapen the moment for me,I'm hope they do not go this route. Also that means that in my world state templar! Carver is the sole surviving hawke....wow the hawke lineage is screwed.

I can just picture my fem warden waging war against the inquisition if warden Alistair dies. I think the archdemon would be luckier than their fates.

Having said that, i wonder if theres any reaction at all in the game from the fem warden if you that route.

Varric didn't leave me, or atleast not yet.. His Companion card changed though.

Does it ever change (like after you meet a certain Dwarf) or does it remain that way. It's so creepy. D=

I have to say, Hawke's ability to go out heroically is a big relief, since this forum was entertaining the whole murder fantasy angle, which would've sucked to have in the game. Of course, my protagonists always give death-by-monster the slip rather than go out swinging, but it's nice that this is the option.

Actually all the companion cards change at some point if you either 1) finish one of their main personal quests, or 2) have a high enough approval rating (not sure which one is specifically correct).  Varric's is just super, duper noticeable.  Iron Bull's now looks all ominous, too, and he and my Inquisitor are best buds.

It does, when you complete his quest.

That's the first thing that crossed my mind, too. There is absolutely no way that I will ever pick Alistair to stay. My canon has him King though but I just loaded up a warden Ali save. I have nothing against Hawke but Alistair.....I just can't. *curls into fetal position*

I'm really annoyed now - I guess we're being railroaded into 'Alistair is either king or dead' and I don't like it one bit > :(

Oh well. If that's how it's done, on to the Keep it is.

Yes, the replace Stroud if either are Wardens. Choose who will die. Also, you  lose Varric if Hawke dies

No you don't, Hawke died and Varric stayed with me even after the game.

Way I see it, if Merril still has her Elluvian, Hawke ought to be able to escape from the fade later using that.  Assuming of course Merril is still alive and friendly (maybe romanced).

That was the saddest thing I have ever seen. I wonder if Hawke romanced someone, and what Varric would say if he did.

he says that they should know what happened and that he will write her/him a letter (in my case Isabella)

damm Hawke's death was sad but Varrics reaction is even sadder

Gdi when I got to this choice I had to pick between Alistair or Hawke. I don't think I've internally bawled so hard in my life when I had to choose. Eventually, I decided on Hawke.

But when Varric said he had to write a letter to Sebastian...*banshee wail*

I just got to this part, a little past 80 hours into my playthrough.

After DA2 I said that if the chance ever came up, I would kill off Hawke.

While that chance has yet to come(since the line states that they will "likely" die, it is not guaranteed), I let Hawke have her wish to remain in the Fade and buy time for The Inquisitor and Loghain to escape.

I didn't hesitate to give Hawke what she wanted, but it still hurt a bit. I didn't expect it to, but DA:Inquisition reminded me how much I loved Hawke's sarcastic nature. She was friendly with The Inquisitor too. I'd say both became good associates(I didn't ever really get the impression they were friends, since any significant time they spent together must've been off-screen).

Worst bit was Varric afterward. I mean *EXPLETIVE*. "Where's Hawke?" Twice he asked. That was hard to handle.

Even harder was his story about Hawke and the game of cards afterward. Goddamn it.

Hawke you sarcastic *expletive*, Inquisition made sure I'll miss you. Your ass better be back in the land of the living some day. DA2 wasn't the greatest, but I'll admit it-

You're alright after all. Cheers, lass. *salute*

Man, this makes me want to change my world state to have Loghain be the Warden instead of Stroud. Stroud's gonna die for sure, but Loghain doing this just seems like a better way to end his story to me.

Does look like Stroud will be the red shirt guy from Star Trek as Loghain might be useful later as he is a very good general.

Select Hawke or Loghain / Alistair / Strout: It's written that they likely die. So they'll survive. It'd be a stupid otherwise, having so much history and then they'd die after beating this huge spider :/

That was what I'm thinking. It felt like it was intentionally written that way so Bioware will have a loophole about bringing them back the same way they did with Leliana.

Well we do know that Flemeth/Mythal/etc was also in the Fade. Maybe she'll be cool and do Hawke a solid again and let him escape.

Nope

Don't worry that happens with characters.

The card change is to show the companion's state of mind and position they are in.

Varric Card will change again to something better once you complete his final companion quest and max his approval to get this event...

My feelings exactly. But we know how Bioware just looooves pointing out that King!Alistair is the "right" canon at their first opportunity. Ugh.

Boy, Stroud really drew the short straw here.

Possible scenarios:

Option A: "Oh no! Hawke or Alistair! How do I choose?"

Option B: "Oh no! Hawke or Loghain! How do I choose?"

Option C: "Oh no! Hawke or... uh... mustache guy... from the Deep Roads? Wait, am I thinking of Riordan?"

I'm guessing the only thing that will save him on most playthroughs is the fact that some players have spent years wishing to feed their old self-insert character to a demonic spider.

LOL I hate Hawke and I still ditched Stroud in the Fade.

If Hawke stays in fade then you have to banish the wardens to keep varric. If stroud/allistair/lohgain stays behind you have to let the wardens stay.

Or so is my understanding.

Your understanding it wrong. I both sacrificed Hawke and recruited the Wardens. If you've already done his personal quest, he will stay with you.

Confirmed.

I also sacrificed Hawke and sided with Wardens. Varric's scene is very sad afterwards but he will stay with you for the entire game with no repercussions.

DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT!!!

Wasn't even considering Varric's reaction when trying to decide if I'd make Alistair the Warden Leader next time.... but those initial lines.

"Where's Hawke....?"

".... Where's Hawke?...."

OMG MY FEELS!!!!!!  Don't know if I can ever save the Warden involved now..... >.<

Also, you lose Varric if Hawke dies

This isn't accurate. Hawke died in my play-through and Varric stayed true and loyal to the Inquisition.
