Hello All,

I really want to start playing this however I don't know which version to buy. I have PS4 that I got for free with no PS4 games yet and I have a Lenovo Y510P with 2 Geforce 750M cards. The PS4 is hooked up to a 55" TV and the Lenovo is a 15" screen. I'm not a graphics ****** although I do like good graphics, if that makes any sense. I'd like to hear from people on both sides of the fence if possible.

TIA

If I were you, I'd spend some time reading the threads here and in the separate Keep forum before making a final decision.

I make no comment about which platform might be best if everything was working properly (I assume a high end PC would probably have slightly better graphics etc) but, at the moment, it does seem as if many PC players are struggling with bugs and crashes, and are finding that the controls aren't optimised for use with a mouse and keyboard. PS4 players on the other hand, seem to be having a relatively trouble-free time of it.

I have to assume there will eventually be a patch addressing some of the worst problems reported by PC players but, if you're planning to buy in the near future, I'd suggest the PC4 version might save you a lot of headache.

If you're primarily a PC gamer than chances are you know bugs (at least minor ones that don't really mess with the overall immersion of the game) sometimes come with the territory, and I've mostly learned to either find them amusing or at least interesting before moving on and letting it go. It happens (just ask my Dragonborn when she discovered the bottom half of a goat sticking out of a pathway near Winterhold, or when the upper-half of a dragon got stuck in the main gate of Windhelm and just hung out there until she left) and sometimes there's nothing for it. Smaller bugs can be ignored (as long as you aren't nitpicky and realize that yes, bugs are a thing regardless of extensive testing) but there ARE some bugs that I've heard of in the PC version that may be a turn off to you:

- Apparently male characters (though I'm unsure if this is for a certain race or all male characters regardless of race) can sometimes be mistaken as female by your companions and other characters. I'm sure BioWare will address this patch immediately since that's obviously an immersion-breaking issue. This doesn't happen too much, I'm sure, but apparently one 'solution' was to toggle back and forth between male and female a few times just to make sure the game registers that you're all man (or at least pretending to be!).

- Someone has indicated a change in chosen voice to the option they didn't choose during the main quest (I think last half of the first act? Unsure about this) and it's obviously an issue BioWare will have to look into and I'm sure it will happen soon as well. Considering it's during the main quest line and depending on how many of the sidequests you do, it might not be much of an issue for you if BioWare DOES patch it before you reach that section in the game.

- Random crashes have been known to occur, but I'm unsure if this is due to the computers (perhaps not having above-necessary specs?) or the game decides that maybe you should go outside for a bit so it can take a nap. Some people have this issue, some people have reported no such issue occurring during their gameplay. BioWare, again, should be able to come up with a solution to this problem (I would hope).

Other than that, as far as it seems, it looks like there's only a few minor bugs that could have easily been overlooked or otherwise created when some other issue was patched out. I'm unsure if PS4 games encounter bugs since I don't own one, but I imagine you'd have your own brand of bugs regardless. I should say that getting a random bug like that is 50/50. Some people encounter loads of bugs, and some people have perfect runs with no issue whatsoever. It's really a gamble, and based on how forgiving you are with such things (at least until a patch is made to correct the issues).

As for controls, there are some people that hate them and some that think they're decent. I would say it depends on what you're willing to put up with. Either way you'll have to learn how to use it, so I suppose it's about learning the easy way or the potentially-hard way in terms of utilizing a PC.

Speaking as simply an observer rather than a PC gamer, I saw a comparison of the Xbox/PS4/PC versions in terms of lighting and graphics and would have to say I prefer the darker and more 'realistic' tones of the PC than the lighter tones (it looks like people are lighter but the environment is darker?) of the Xbox and PS4. That isn't to say that the lighter version looks hideous or anything and I'm certain it's a beautiful game no matter what platform you play on, but if atmosphere is one of the main reasons you want to play this game (other than the story, gameplay, etc.) then this might be something worth looking in to.

The ONE thing that PS4 and Xbox gamers have complained about is the apparent down-sizing of the console versions, and especially the missing scar options in the character creation screen. There also seems to be issues determining colours and hues when creating characters due to various elements such as how you've set up the display on your television and how dark/bright it is.

So, it really depends on what you're willing to put up with vs. what you're willing to lose in terms of customization and gameplay. I would say if bugs are your issue and you're uncertain (or impatient in waiting for) patches, and customization/the general look/feel of the game isn't as important to you as immersion and gameplay then, yes, definitely purchase the PS4 version; though don't expect there not to be bugs if that's even a thing on the console (again I don't own one but I'm almost certain bugs are kind of a universal coding issue thing regardless).

BUT if customization and optimal lighting/graphics are important to you then maybe attempt the PC version. I have the PC version because I love playing on PC - it feels more personal to me than anything, though I have nothing against consoles of course! - but also because I lack a PS4 and Xbox (as I said before though, I like to play BioWare games basically exclusively on PC). I can take the lumps and at least have the hope that all those bugs, crashes and such will be rectified. BioWare has something to prove this time around, and so I'm sure they're listening to criticism, complaints and constructive ideas carefully to suss out what needs to be taken care of and when.

Anyways, I hope this helps define what is good/bad about each and shown you some pros/cons. Whichever platform you decide to play on, I hope you enjoy the game!

Looking at the forums the console gamers have a far better gaming experience with DA 3 than PC gamers so a PS 4 looks like the better option.

I've only seen this raised as an issue for the last gen consoles (XBox 360 especially), not the PS4 or XB1.

You may be right, but I haven't seen it raised as a current gen issue.

Just buy $10 HDMI cable and connect your lenovo to the 55".

I often do the same with my laptop and 1080p projector or external HDTV, looks amazing.

PS4. Although it's not without its glitches too but nowhere near as bad as some PC players are having.

Hm, again I don't honestly know because I don't have either console so I couldn't say. In terms of Xbox and PS4 I'm basically going with the complaints or praises that I've seen others say about them. In the character creation forum there were owners of PS4 and Xbox One's claiming that there were issues with downsizing and how they were disappointed in the hair quality and lack of scars, but? I'm unsure if you can avoid the, uh, 'plastic hair' syndrome and weird beard issues that occur on both consoles if there are options to elevate the textures to high or ultra? But I don't think console gamers have that luxury? Correct me if I'm wrong, though! I of course am not here to spread misinformation!

Also apparently some people HAVE been encountering crashes and audio issues on PS4, so I suppose it all goes hand-in-hand at the end of the day. (I'm perusing to see what other issues have been encountered on both platforms. Kind of depressing, and I honestly do hope BioWare can solve these issues like they've done for past games so people have, erm, less to complain about?)

Shiny hair definitely seems to be an issue (shiny lips too apparently!), but I've assumed that's an issue with the CC and therefore an issue for all platforms, not consoles specifically. The lack of scars I've definitely seen reported as a 360 issue.

Being in the UK, I won't get the game until tomorrow so I can't say from personal experience. I'm just summarising what seems to be the consensus here in the forums. I'd definitely recommend spending some time reading through the Feedback and Scuttlebutt threads here.

Shiny hair (and lips) are actually preventable if you enter the PC options and turn meshes up to High or Ultra, thus the hair looks more smooth and no shine to them, so that's certainly a preventable issue on PC. Lip shine is customizable (by turning it all the way down to zero) but I'm unsure if this was also a feature removed from Xbox and PS4 because it was unnecessary.

That being said, here is a video that might inform you more about playing on PC though it doesn't cover many of the issues I/We discussed:

https://www.youtube....h?v=lu0XRSTRayo

Don't know whether that will help in any way towards decision-making, but I've heard a lot of professional reviewers say they haven't had many issues with the game on PC and I'm more liable to trust them than someone with high hopes and a grudge.

No, I don't think it was removed. My understanding at this point is that the option to tone down the lip gloss (i.e. the slider) is still there but that, even turned down to zero, the lips of the in-game character can still look as if he/she has been munching on the lip-balm!

Assuming Amazon deliver on time tomorrow, I'll know for certain then!

Thank you all for the quick responses. I think I may go the laptop via hdmi route. I have played the previous DA on PC and will probably stick with that then. The biggest issue is buying a wireless mouse and keyboard to play it from the couch. I can't afford the game and that right now. I just read about so many issues with PC (#keymousegate) and just wanted to jump in without too many issues. I may just wait a month or until the first major patch though. Thanks again.

Easy decision IMO.

PS4.

You will not be able to run this game on Ultra and get decent framerates with that computer you posted.  Therefore it's an easy decision considering the controls are lacking with the PC and mouse/keyboard combo.

PC version runs and looks great. Only real issue with it is controls, which you can just plug in a gamepad and get a PS4 style experience out of. So I would go PC.

I would say PC - just because I think you'll be able run it ok with those specs, you'll be able to make it sing with a better computer, and either way you can hook that PC up to your TV (which is what I do, and I play with a 360 controller).

FWIW, I've played about 11 hours so far on PC - not a single crash, and I'm running it on full ultra settings with a i7 4770 and a gtx 770. I don't have a FPS counter running, but it feels flawless - I imagine I'm getting in the neighborhood of 45-50 fps. Certainly enough that the fps drop in cutscenes is jarring.

PS4 here. Saw a few tiny glitches, nothing game breaking.  I just seem to fin consoles a bit safer to play on

PS4. Fewer bugs, less headache, and it's surprisingly easy to grab screenshots/video from the game (usually the primary reason I get games on PC). You should also remember that Frostbite is not very mod friendly, so we won't be seeing the same sort of mod support that DAO or even DA2 had.

I got it for the PC, but I'm thinking of abandoning it for a PS4 copy. Like jellobell said, it's not like we're likely to see many, if any, mods for the game. The main thing holding me back is I got the Deluxe Edition for the PC, meaning that not only did I spend more than usual on it, but also that I'd need to spend just as much again to get the same on the PS4.

Good points on the PS4 end of the argument as well. Especially about the mods. That's one of the main reasons I play games like this on PC. And of course with the card on my laptop only able to handle maybe medium settings the PS4 maybe the way to go. If I'm going to be using a console gamepad to play any way, I might as well just play on a PS4. Think I'm getting swayed more to the PS4 plus I don't want to keep using it as just a Blu-ray player.

I put a lot of money into my PC, so I really do prefer to use it wherever possible. There's just a lot of PC-specific issues that are really ruining the experience for some. I have to delete my Origin cache files every time I want to play, otherwise it cannot connect to the server, which is very annoying for a single player game.

Add in some Nvidia driver issues (it tried to tell me my 6GB vram Titan ran out of vram because I only had 90% of vram free), the obvious tactical cam control issues, and the "don't worry, we learned our lessons" PC version feels like it still falls short.
