I am about 12 hours in and I still haven't figured out how to order a companion to attack a target. If I want Varric to attack a spell caster how do I order him to do so and not have him stop 3 seconds later? I know there is a button to order the whole party to do so but how do I order one person to attack? If I want Cass to start tanking the large enemy, how do I get her to do so other than telling her to use an ability on it?

Bring up tac cam - select companion, apply attack to foe and off they go.
How much are you using the tac cam?

It's been suggested by others to turn off tactics for your companions.
