Hi, I'm not a native speaker of the English language, so I have sometime troubles in recognizing the accent in one moment.

The character creation has two voiceset, but I got confused; as I want to select the British one, I have to select the one on the right or the one on the left?

Thank for your help.

the one on the left. good choice, superiority requires a firm foundations: british accent happens to be it.

Actually, it's not always on the left. For Qunari female, the first choice is the American accent.

The convention seems to be that humans and elves are British, while qunari & dwarves are North American.

That does seem to fit the races like that.

While the British voice doesn't work for the Qunari, the American voice doesn't work either. And frankly I don't think the American voice actress did a very good job.

I disagree. I think the actress did extremely well playing the role of a gruff, female mercenary type and she fits the Qunari female perfectly.

Yeah, tried a british accent on a qunari, did not work.

She doesn't sound gruff, she sounds disaffected. I suppose some other people would describe her delivery by saying she sounds like she "phoned it in."

Honestly, I wasn't too crazy about the North American female voice either. Which is strange because I saw the voice actress in a few videos and her voice sounded fine. But in the game, I dunno... it's different. I was hoping for the same tone as the female brit voice, but with a north american accent.

Or rather, I was hoping more for something like Harding's voice.

Agree to disagree then.

I like Sumalee’s voice, but I wish it was more similar to how she voiced Arcee. It does sound a bit dead, yes. But still American> British. I really don’t like Alix’s voice, she sounds annoying. >>

Bioware won’t do it, but if they had the resources, it'd be neat if there were a couple of more voice sets in the future. A welsh accent for the Dalish, or an alternate lighter/younger voice would be nice.

I felt the same about the America. I cringed when she started speaking, and thought "No way can I stand even a minute of this voice, let alone a whole game!"

So my qunari (second playthrough) will be  demure and British. Down with typecasting! :P

I love Harding's voice, she's such a cutie.

But yes, why does British have to mean lovely, and American have to mean coarse?

Lol, no idea. There are plenty of soft spoken, lovely American voices - both male and female.

I think John Malkovich has a regal voice.

For some reason I feel that qunari fit better having the American accent. The British accent sounds too refined for a mercenary.

Well that and the American accent sounds like he is dumb. Seriously...I am not being self-deprecating. I think an American accent can rock and be heroic. But I am not a fan of it whatsoever. Plus a third choice would have been nice. Somewhere in between Snooty Brit and Brain-damaged American.

Hawke (both genders) had so much personality that I couldn't stand any of the voices in DAI, esp. the male ones. The American Male is ok for a bulky meathead/Qunari I suppose but honestly the 'British' accent sounds like a Toff mummy's boy . Neither intimidating or suave.

Given that the Warden and Hawke were both males for me I was leaning towards a female this time around anyway and the voices definitely sealed the deal  ...not that the female choices are great either. The deeper american one was a no go for me and so ended up going with the left option. The problem with this one is that she has a pretty annoying inflection and can sound like text-to-speech software quite often. I've gotten more used to it now tho (40hrs will do that lol)

I'm not a huge fan of Alix Wilton Reagan's voice acting so color me disappointed when Sumalee's voice proved too deep to be believable on either a human or an elf, so I'm stuck with Alix on my female elves and humans. But I get to enjoy Sumalee on my dwarves and Qunari at least. Yes, I vastly prefer Sumalee's voice to Alix's. However, I'm the opposite with the male voices and prefer the British over the American one, which is lucky for me since I never play male dwarves or Qunari.

I would really love a southern accent, but I'm just incredibly partial to them.

Really, any voice that doesn't sound like she's barking an order would be great.

I'm looking forward to making a soft-spoken and demure qunari. Just because she wields a gigantic battle axe doesn't mean she can't be diplomatic.

Definitely going to use the British voice.

Like seriously, they couldn't give us a sexy James Bond sort of accent, all debonaire and mature?

It's totally different in the german version. Because of the lack of german accents (we have a lot of dialects though). Instead they gave us a old and a young sounding voice which is pretty nice too.
