Main story too short?

I finished the game and... if you cut out the filler main story is probably somewhere between 15 and 20 hours. That's even shorter than DA2 if memory serves. I hope they release a ton of story DLCs to make up for it...

Thankfully the optional stuff is interesting in this game, so I'm not completely unsatisfied.

That's part of the tradeoff for an open world, or semi-open world, game. Whether it's worth it or not is a personal opinion.

What happened to the main story being 40-50 hours alone?

How accurate is your estimate? Also what difficulty were you playing on?

Also, 20 hours of pure main plot isnt bad.

most of the reviews said it took them 60-80 hours to finish the main game with vast areas/side quests not completed. how did u do it in 20 hours?

Taking only the main story quests of DA2 I doubt it.

The reviews may be counting all of the side quest content you have to do to build the Inquisition up to move to the next item in the main quest, while the OP may not be counting that?

I'm just postulating.

Precisely. 50 hours for the whole thing, doing minimum needed for Powers. But that includes the optional stuff which is not part of the main story.

20 hrs doesnt sound feasible , considering you have to do a lot of quests to gain enough power to unlock story portions.

I think it is probably reasonable to take his word for it. I'm sure if you cut out all the power filler, it probably WOULD be 15-20 hours. otherwise, with all the filler, if it was 40 hours, the filler would make it like 80+ just to do the main story lol

Disappointing though.. i hate short plots.

Are you guys really going to take the word of reviewers who failed to mention several key problems with the PC version?

Is there some reason the word of an internet stranger is more valuable than that though?

Yes. Most reviewers DID mention the tac cam inconveniences  and whatnot. because that's what they are.. inconveniences.. and imperfections. Nothing "key' about them.

^this. if you leave out the extra power content, you're likely left with only 15-20h

Which is very disappointing.

20 hours with absolutely no side content (meaning no talking to companions or advisors, or anyone else) seems fine to me.

DA:O was probably a similar length if you did the same thing.

Considering most of the reviews were based on the console versions, is quite reasonable that they didn't spot these pc problems. Then again, I'm playing PC and I don't have the issues.

Disclaimer: I'm using a gamepad.

If you rush and skip through all content and focus only on the main quest and skip cutscenes I imagine it could be this fast. Also saying it's way to short; Skyrim's main quest took around this time and less, like a few hours, to finish if you did only that.

I see absolutely zero gain in doing it this fast, this ain't a MMORPG, you have no bragging power here. No other players standing in the bank or inn and you strutting around and showing off your shiny new highest level. Show off ones finish time in a game such as Dragon Age also feel completely pointless. It's like skipping every two pages in a book and then telling people one finished in a few hours, yeah so?

You can beat Dark Souls in less than an hour.

Took me 80 hours my first playthrough. Damn fine game.

Ugh. Really hope that's not the case. That's as bad as Skyrim.

You can beat Morrowind in 10 minutes. Means nothing in the end.

Pretty sure you could beeline Origins for less than that if you ignore all side-quests, dialog and such. Rush through the origin, go straight to the treaties in the Wilds, rush past Lothering, hunt Witherfang immediately, etc. Why would you want to do that is beyond me, but I don't know of any RPG that doesn't have the vast bulk of its content in side quests.
