Would't it be a bit immersion breaking if they spoke French in "not-France" Orlais and Spanish in "not-Spain" Antiva?

They kind of do, though. I remember some little phrases that were explicitly French in Asunder, and then in DA2 you had the Antivan guy yelling out "maldición".

I don't tend to read video game books, so I can't speak to Asunder. I missed that bit in DA2.

All I know is that when Justinia says "Run while you can! Warn them!", she sounds like she's singing a line from Les Mis. Whoever was director on that session made a bad call on that line read.

Mother Giselle's accent is at least less atrocious than Marjolaine's in DA:O! Now THAT accent was painful to listen to.

Or Connor's mother in DA:O, what was her name? hahahhaa UGH sooo bad

and yeah Marjolaine's was abominable.

Isolde is Conner's mom and yes, she drove me nuts too...and Marjolaine. Isolde is lucky I didn't kill her just for her accent. But I didn't so she was around again in Mark of the Assassin. Poor Teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeagan in both games, having to deal with her.

She annoys the **** outta me

With all her religious talk and saintly manner with an annoying accent, ugh, shut up!

Morrigan would wipe the floor with her. I would love to see a banter between them.

I find myself wondering if that was an unintentional side effect of the voice distortion in the scene?

I was more thrown off by her gigantic-sized lips.

The size is alright. What weirds me out is how puckered up they are, like a duck's beak.

You want gigantic lips? That's Vivienne. Her mouth covers up half her face, I swear. I guess that is what the devs believe black people look like.

She sounds like she's doing a cat impression. Listen closely and you'll hear Marjolaine purr.

I don't know. Would't it be a bit immersion breaking if they spoke French in "not-France" Orlais and Spanish in "not-Spain" Antiva? That's likely why they don't do that. I'm guessing they use the accents to give the impression that the characters are from a different nation with its own language and flavor, but since Orlesian isn't really French, they don't go all the way into the language itself.

Vicento (Feynriel's father) says "maldición!" when Hawke shows that he's a mage too.

And of course, let's not forget about the Felicissima Armada.

Glad I'm not a native English speaker when it comes to stuff like this. Ignorance is bliss :D

I cant even spot the difference between american and english unless I really pay attention, that or if the word "Cant" is used.

People are like, "Where is Harley's Brooklyn accent in the new movie?" and I'm all "I never knew she had that. Whatever it is".

And Anora's handmaiden.  The elf.  What was her name?  Her's was the worse.  It sounded like an accent I would do when I'm trying to be fancy and French.  And I'm drunk.

Fancy, French, and drunk? Watch what you say about my mother!

So, do we know who voiced her?

^ Nope. She's not listed on the DAI IMDb page, nor is her VA listed on the character's DAwiki page. Rather a shame, really. Celene's voice is listed, but she has far fewer lines than Giselle, who is likely among the various "additional voices" actors.

I believe this is probably true, though, in my fan-fic, I did use French for Orlesian and Cymraeg for the Avaar in places to indicate a different language. I needed those visual differences, in places because writing an accent just wasn't enough.

I, on the other hand, found her refreshing. She is obviously a woman who "walks the walk" of the faith, and it this game, that particular faith is very powerful. To have it be absent would be game-breaking. You and I may not believe in Andraste (or "gods" for that matter) but you have to respect someone who takes their belief to heart and tries to live it as well as possible. At least I do. There are enough people in Thedas who believe in nothing or who are in it for the power/money/whatever. She is a true-believer.

I hated her, but then again I went to Catholic school, and I've met her ilk before.

To be fair, we may have run out of topics to discuss until DA4 or other DA-related information is released.

To me, Mother Giselle's accent sounds more Haitian than Canadian or French. I don't know what that implies.

She sounded... off in Trespasser. I think the VA had gotten a bit rusty.

Did she get demoted in Trespasser? I ask because her hat wasn't nearly as horrid. If she was, I'm not saying "Good!"... but ... Good! Everything she does seemed useless to me. Like wasting time to sing while we're all freezing. And yet I don't find her voice irritating, merely her character.

Pretty sure Giselle secretly smokes behind the Chantry, considering how phlegmy her voice is.
