So I walked into Lady Shayna's Valley, and almost got my butt toasted by a dragon.  I ran back and forth between the nearby camp and the valley a few times while dodging fireballs, and managed to climb up to where the oculary was.  At that point, the dragon stopped attacking and disappeared.  I have no idea where it is, and I've checked the entire valley.  I was even able to destroy the red lyrium for Varric, but no dragon.  I assume it had some stuff on it that I'll need. 

 

What happened?  Is this the correct behavior or a bug?

I'd love to explore Lady Shayna's valley.. If you know what I mean.

The first bit of it is just to scare the crap out of you; you can hunt the dragonlings for scales and do the ocularum and red lyrium. To fight the dragon you have to go further back to a second area. (you can also just step a few feet in to get the exploration bonus) she's there and about level 12 (I was getting creamed at level 10/9) and there's supposedly a landmark back there too.

Yea you have to go past Lady Shaynas Valley into the back part. Forget what its called, but the dragon lands there after firing off a few rounds at you.
I fought and beat the Dragon at level 11 so I think it should be possible at level 10
