Bioware has abandoned PS3 and XBOX360 with announcement of dropping both patch and DLC support: http://www.dragonage...s/save-importerhttp://forum.bioware...-going-forward/ There is no more fixes to come so this thread will remain to show what problems DAI has and will always have on PS3 and XBOX360.

Multiplayer on old gen will get weekly challenges, but not patches and DLC's so no new stuff.

Thread about problems and issue DAI has on PS3 and XBOX360. Information has been gathered from players in Bioware forums and Answer EA.

Please note that not everyone is having same problems and there is lot of inconsistency: some have severe problems and some just some bugs. So if you aren't having certain problem it doesn't mean that others aren't having it.

These issues and problems that I have compiled here are supposed to give information on devs what problems the game has and what they could investigate/fix (however they haven't done much fixes during half year since release so it's unlike that this will happen at least anymore). Their other use is to show other old gen players what issues there is and maybe find together ways to counter them if it's possible. If that doesn't help either you can at least get peer support from the thread and others with problems so you don't have to suffer alone with your broken DAI ^^;

ISSUES, CLITCHES AND BUGS

Performance issues:

  • Black screens, crashing and freezing game
  • Frame-rate drops & major lag issues, for example Forbidden Oasis area is unplayable for some because of lag and frame-rate drop.
  • Multiplayer gliches a lot and is unplayable for some (for example no key drop, no-end download and stuck on the ground, crashing etc.).
  • Loading times are huge at times (over 20 min for some just to save the game)
  • Save files problems: corrupted, can't load some or any saves.
  • Disk unreadable- error on 360 & No digital download or installing game on HDD for 360, these problems might be related. Buying new disc doesn't help (people have tested this).
  • Controller input lag.
  • Saving game freezes/crashes the game, especially auto-save results into crashes a lot and crashes tend to corrupt saves so maybe option to remove auto-saving might help some players?

Gameplay issues, clitches and bugs:

  • Dialogue wheel problems, sometimes dialogue has to be skipped in order of game to continue. (better for some after patch 2 but still remain for many)
  • Can't complete guests cause some parts of them won't load.
  • Enemies don't load or they don't attack player

Graphic issues:

  • Textures don't load properly or at all, texture pop-in's.
  • Screen tearing.
  • Low resolution at times.
  • Clipping issues: arms go through weapons or torso, chin goes through armor etc.
  • Lighting issues: in some places too dark to see (dungeons), in some places too much light.
  • Hair and bears have shiny bug.

Texture's don't load issue that's very usual and lows graphic quality and visuals of the game a lot:

Kuvakaappaus1312_zpspuncez0v.jpg

Compare how different he looks when his face has loaded textures:

Kuvakaappaus1313_zpsptddl6yp.jpg

Pictures are from my game, picture quality isn't best cause I can't take screenshots in my PS3 so I take them from screen with phone's camera.

Sound problems:

  • There is no sound; background music and sound, dialogue, any sound.
  • There is no party banter (notorious cross-gen party banter bug).
  •  Dialogue problems: dialogue sound is lacking behind, dialogue has errors or doesn't come out right times, dialogue is spoken 2x speech (chipmunks?), dialogue overlaps.
  • Random sounds clitches like oddly repeating environment sounds or sudden and noisy screeches and sounds that aren't supposed to even be on the game.
  • Sound problem happens in background music, dialogue and sounds.

TEXT PROBLEMS:

  • Was that hard of read? Reading DAI texts isn't any easier. Especially people who are deaf or have dyslexia have hard time playing with this problem, but others as well since reading is important in RPG's where all texts aren't narrated.
  • Text is too blurry, too small and in capslock which makes it hard to read.
  • This problem isn't related to SCART-cable nor SDTV, people with huge HDTV's with HDM1-cables have reported about same problem.
  • Bioware could fix this by making text size abjustable for players or simply making it bigger and easier to read.
  • EDIT: ADJUSTABLE SIZE FOR SUBTITLES IS AVAILABLE, BUT IT'S SUBSTITLES ONLY NOT ALL TEXTS. You can change your subtitle size from options -> audio -> subtitle size -> default/medium/large.

Things that aren't bug but make experience worse:

  • Black screens during tactical camera (confirmed as not bug).
  • There is no scars in CC (confirmed as intentionally removed)

PATCH INFO

Patch 2 came 9th December. http://blog.bioware....-patch-2-notes/

Patch 3+4: Patch notes are same as for PC so you have to ignore mouse and other PC specifics: http://blog.bioware....-patch-3-notes/

Patch 5: Adjustable subtitle size is one of fixes. Here are patch notes: http://blog.bioware....-patch-5-notes/ Patch is now downloadable when you open your game. You can adjust subtitle size from options -> audio- > subtitle size.

Patch 6: Some random quest stuff, not really anything on old gen problems. http://blog.bioware....-patch-6-notes/

Patch 7: Some random quest stuff, not really anything on old gen problems. http://blog.bioware....-patch-7-notes/ However seems to have caused some freezes on XBOX360.

Patch 8: Multiplayer and save importer stuff: http://blog.bioware....-patch-8-notes/

BIOWARE DROPPED DLC & PATCH SUPPORT ON PS3 AND XBOX360 so no more patches is coming after patch 8.

The information of DAI in PS3 and XBOX 360 is currently shattered in many different threads which might make it hard for BW to address and get view how severe the problems really are so I decided to do this thread.

What I have gathered from dozen threads on BSN and other game forums: it's not that the graphics are low but the PS3 and XBOX 360 version have countless bugs and issues that for some make the whole game unplayable.

There is some I have gathered people having:

  • Black screens and freezing game.
  • Sound problems: there is no sound, sound is lacking behind, dialogue has errors or doesn't come out right times, random sounds clitch and start playing like broken record player.
  • Save files corrupted.
  • Textures don't load properly, texture pop-in's. (for majority players).
  • Frame-rate drops. (for majority players).
  • Major lag issues.
  • Dialogue wheel problems.
  • Can't complete guests cause some parts of them won't load.
  • Overall graphics are low.
  • Multiplayer gliches a lot and is unplayable for some.
  • Loading times are huge (over 20 min for some just to save the game) (for majority of players).

I'll edit OP when more problems get known or when they get fixes.

Also for lot of players their Inquisitor looks like this: http://forum.bioware...ere/?p=17812615 (sorry for using your Inquisitor as example, but it shows really how bad the textures are at times).

BW has only promised to help PC players so far I have seen. However I believe old gen has many severe game breaking issues. I would like to ask Bioware look into these issues as quickly as possible.

Please discuss here about the issues as respectfully and in polite manner as it's possible. Let's make Bioware hear our voices about the issues so there can be change.

the only one of those i have encountered is the texture pop in, but thats been a concurrent problem with bioware games on ps3, at least in my experience it has.

What kind of version you have with game? It seems like disk versions have had more problems at least for PS3.

The only issue I guess I have is the texture of some things (small things, really small), but nothing too major, yet. the game froze once on me, and I had two close encounters (almost gave me a heart attack). Multiplayer is fine.

I have the disk copy of it

I'm surprised it hasn't done much of what was mentioned aside from those tiny details. I should still put more hours into it xD

I'm not having any of them happen on my PS3 except for the textures.  One thing, that a few people are agreeing with but I'm not sure how they can fix it, is the text is kind of blurred together and hard to read.  Someone said they even tried three different TVs and it was the same for each one.  The graphics issue I think is a loss cause though, they said last gen would be inferior because of how much was going on and the limitations of the consoles.

Well, what's strange is I'm watching 2-3 different Youtubers play through on the Xbox 360 version, and they both have different graphics. One has shoddier textures, and a harder time loading in people for conversations. (Half the time his Qunari had smudgy face), the other one (Whom I watch more recently) is definitely playing something that looks relatively great on the "Last gen" machines.

Relative being, 'Current gen' are awesome, and we're playing on low PC settings.

And with varying reports between consumers, I'm wondering what the trigger is for all these different graphics between people.

Edit: I should clarify, that I have them side-by-side as well, all at max Resolution for Youtube, so it's not just me watching them on potatoes.

what if it depends on how old your console is? And whether or not you keep it up to date, installing every update for the system? And also how hard you work the console, and the amount of free space? that could also contribute I'm sure.

I'm not very good with technology so it's an assumption

I still don't rule out the chance of the game being the issue though, but it's a thought

I haven't heard before in consoles that people would have different kind of running problems. I have always though that it was more of PC problem since PC's have all kinds of differences from hardware to software. However it seems that people are having different performances on PS3 and XBOX360 which is odd to me but I don't know either what is the problem. Maybe it's those, maybe not : /

Well I'm sure the game would look okay graphic wise in older gen too if the textures loaded properly and clipping and other issues would be solved.

Then I should be good, we've got two relatively new Xbox 360 Slims. the 250hdd ones, and we have been making pace Via Cloud storage.

Well, there was this one guy on the forums who had a *Terrrrrrible* character glitch with his facial hair looking like confetti strips. Yet, someone else linked their character, and it looked relatively good/normal for a Last Gen release. As well as footage done by Youtubers using the PS3.

Well I'm sure the game would look okay graphic wise in older gen too if the textures loaded properly and clipping and other issues would be solved.

The other Youtuber I watch: UrAvgGamer - has very few, if any problems outside of the pop ins, and some of the textures (Mainly snow), being flat. Other than that, I'd be more than happy playing it on 360 if I had his experience while playing.

Well there are quite a few different models of the PS3 and the X360 out there. So it's not as uniform as it once was.

What (S)he said.  I know a few people still using their original White Xbox's, or even the early Arcade's. I'm just wondering about how people's performances are so varied.

I'll reinforce the issues I have noticed and have an issue with.

-Text:  Too small AND too blurry.  ME2 I remember was cited for having small text, and bioware refused to address it.  In ME3 this issue does not exist.  Now in DA:I it does again, but to a much greater extent.  I'm not sure why, but this needs fixed.  It is actually because of THIS issue I have stopped playing at about the 1 hour mark.  It has actually made it unplayable to me, and I have a decent level of tolerance for small text.

-Hair:  It's too shiny, and it stands out worse on facial hair.  It just looks...weird.

-Frame rate issues at odd places.  It's not because I'm staring at a large area, or even in combat,  It happens largely in cutscenes, for no apparent reason, and it is significant.

-Lighting:  Inside of darker rooms where torches are the only light, the contrast is staggering to the point of me not being able to see anything 2 feet from a light source.  Step outside and the lighting is perfect.

If i had to pick one issue to be fixed, it'd be the text.  The others irritate me but the text is literally game breaking.

I agree with the text thing. I can read it but it's just so small. I really have to look to see it. :/

Hair can be solved (Unfortunately on PC only because Next Gen has no problems with it), by increasing the mesh - but it mainly seems to affect the 'pure' colors. White, black, brown.

Cutscenes changes frame rate and locks it to 30fps to make the dialogue sync properly with the sound - it happens whenever it's a serious cutscene of dialogue. And some lighting areas, you're meant to use a mage to create mystical fire to carry around. Moreso done purpose.

I haven't noticed the text being an issue - though that is my thing. I'm the guy in the family people get when they need tiny text - like pills XD

From What is worth, in another thread a person with the same 360 as mine (60 GB from 2008), seems to have the same experience of the 'good' YT video (sadly he didn't respond to the comparison, but he said the CC was good, While others said the CC was already bad, and I saw shots of the CC being worse then the YT videos), so I don't know if the problem is the different models of consoles.

Did someone with a very bad looking Version (like that screenshot) try to delete the installed Game Data and reinstall it?

Because after reading all this i'm really worried that it will look horrible on my old fat PS3(2007).

I think the bad screenshots might have been taken in times where textures haven't loaded properly and that in other scenes their Inquisitors look as good as they can with old gen. However it doesn't remove the problem since if textures won't load properly most of the game the whole game will look bad most of the time as well.

I don't know - most people just say that they were fed up and immediately returned their copies. Because minor graphical issues>Story, characters, and gameplay apparently.

Not that I care, they can go ahead and leave, just means I have a guaranteed chance to get my copy when payday comes.

I'll say this, after the tons of posts I've made on this board for the last few days... I have decided not to get DAI. I will someday when I have a PS4 or when/if the last gen versions get fixed completely. I'll save my 60 dollars to buy both Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 Remix on the same day on the 2nd next month. No worries about nasty glitches weirdness there, and it will probably look graphically better... Which is really sad actually, a compilation of remastered PS2 games will probably look better than an actual PS3 game from Bioware.

Why?  I can't think of any other game I've played that does this, including other BW games, and they had no such syncing issue.

The problems some people are experiencing aren't "minor". Party members falling halfway through the ground during conversations, textures taking several minutes to load in if they ever bother to do so, hair that looks like marker and looks worse than facial hair did on the PS2, textures that look worse than PS2-game textures even when they are fully loaded, data corruption, constant freezes, horrible lag and frame drops, audio and video not even syncing so sounds don't match up with what made the sounds... This is minor? Maybe if you're willing to swallow every turd that falls out of Biowares butt. Some of us have standards though, and DAI for PS3 doesn't match mine.

It's sad, some of what I've seen of the last gen versions of DAI actually does look worse than a lot of PS2 games. When there's PS2 games better looking than your PS3 game, there's a big problem there.
