right on the skyrim engine is not the same as frostbite, sorry for that mistake i have my brain cells in various stuff xD , although you could say the engines arent that much different in terms of sandbox feeling and the graphics are nice as well but different engines, and yeah the frostbite has been used for need for speed, battlefield 3 and other shooter games but cmon if they implemented the game for old gens it means its duable and possible to optimize it properly while lowering but not degrading much the graphics either, you may call this old gen of consoles old but they really squeezed up the engines that they worked on very well so far.
The "old" gen really is almost ten years old though. Compare the specs on an Xbox or PS3 versus the minimum required specs on PC, they aren't even close.
Also - DAI is huge. It's bigger than Skyrim and GTA V, certainly. And those games were both stretching the old hardware quite a bit.
They obviously made it run on the old gen, warts and all - but that's about it. Optimizing it would have been at the expense of the newer, more powerful hardware. Do you really think it's a good idea to do that, in 2014?
Considering the huge install base of the old systems, it was probably inevitable that EA (and I am quite sure it was EA, Bioware would want to ensure that every version did their game justice) would insist on releasing them. But the results just weren't bound to be pretty - or optimally functional.
