Last thing women should do is disrespect themselves by doing this. They don't own anything to guys who aren't at all more handsome than these women's are ugly. This view is really twisted.

It's "owe" not "own." And "guys who aren't at all more handsome than these women's are ugly" isn't english. You don't sound pretty enough to be this incoherent...

And, using your own logic, men don't owe it to the 3s among women to think they are not 3s.

I'm surprised this is still going, you'd think they'd just automatically lock these threads.

Helpful tip: English is a second language for many of the people on these forums.  ;)

Hey, I have the hots for Cullen and I am not lonely. *pouts*  :D

Apparently everyone has the hots for Cullen. I could never understand why.

Well, if you are going to get on the side of beauty is in the eye of the beholder blah blah, then you can't complain about me or anyone else "not realizing" that they are really good looking. Nope, they look damn ugly.

And just cuz you want your lesbian lover to be the "male lesbian" doesn't mean anyone else should settle for butch chicks.

And just as in real life, I'd much rather romance good-looking ladies than w/e those rejects in this game are.

No they aren't ugly. Of cource everyone has their type what they find attractive but if these women aren't attractive to you it doesn't mean they are ugly at all. I don't want my lesbian love to be male lesbian, I'm saying that Cass looks like I want as woman look.

Nah, not everyone. Actually, I don't even know why I have the hots for him ( and I really do). I do like his character and have found his story arc interesting over the three games but appearance wise, if I were to find RL men that looked like him, they wouldn't be my "normal" type. Maybe I have been brainwashed?

There is lot of people who have and then lot who dislike him as well.

I'm looking forward romancing him in the game but I can't say that he's that attractive to me, not just my type. Not that he's not good-looking either ^^; I just look more forward him as character than romance.

Aren't you even a little bit aware of how far into semantics you are venturing here? Un/attractive is a subjective qualifier just like ugly, beautiful etc., it goes without saying that it is, as such, not universal. "Unattractive to me" is a sugar-coated and (at least marginally more) PC-compliant version of the blunt "ugly", another step on the continuous scale from [fugly -- ugly -- eh okay -- pretty -- stunning]. One is no more "allowed" than another, unless you intend to invoke some sort of arbitrary thought police.

I cannot help but think that all those people insisting on the mantra of nobody being ugly have deep-seated issues with their self-image. Most people can openly admit that others are more clever, wittier, or whatever than them -- why is that suddenly not possible as far as looks is concerned? And how does not being pretty themselves somehow invalidate their right to form an opinion on others? Is it jealousy I'm hearing?

Again this. Male players really should expand their idea of beaty since this is getting tiring. You don't see lesbian players complaining about ugliness of females or straight female and gay players complaining about looks of male characters (which aren't even close to supermodels either). Thus I have to believe that the problem is on straight male players and not in the characters themselves.

Hey now, don't rope all us straight males in with the OP.  I happen to find the ladies of DA:I quite appealing.  My favorite is Cassandra.  I think she's quite lovely, and her scar adds so much character, and I really like her voice as well.  Joesephine is quite pretty, and Leiliana got downright sexy in this one I think.

I'm not doing so. It's just manner of speech and if you aren't similar good for you. I'm aware that there is lot of straight male players who are happy with their options or are unhappy but are polite enough to not start dozen threads on it.

How can you make a pat statement saying they are not ugly when it is a subjective opinion? He can believe they are ugly, and you are free to disagree with him. That doesn't require you to tell him he is wrong, because your subjective opinion does not equal fact.

I am a woman and I happen to agree with him about most of the female characters. I find Sera is cute to look at, but she annoys me too much to speak to her. I have no clue what they did to poor Lei, but she just doesn't look near as beautiful as she did in Origin and DA2. I am also rather irritated with how awful Cullen looks this time. I was happy about him finally being an option because he was the best looking character in DA2.

Nathaniel Howe will always be my favorite companion, & I'd love an expansion that allows for me to have him as a permanent companion and viable romance option. As much as I love the character it would not matter if he was hit with the ugly stick, because I would still see him as I did during Awakening.

I think the most beautiful female up to the point I am currently is Josephine. She is stunning in my opinion. I can say that it was quite difficult to make a nice looking female character with the customization available, so maybe some options are missing that were originally there for the characters in other games. I finally gave up trying to make a pretty human female and made a pretty elf female instead.

See, I had thought that Leli looked really off. Kind of like someone who has had too much plastic surgery (not saying she isn't pretty because she is) but I have been thinking about it over the last 10 minutes and maybe it is because she is more stoic in this game and doesn't show as much facial expression? Granted I haven't played very far into it the game and I have only had my first couple of conversations with her in Haven but can you tell me, do we get to see some of the Lei from DAO?

Don't know yet, I'm only just past Val Royeaux.  Thus far though, she seems a lot more grim in this own, even having something of a crisis of faith.  Makes me wanna give the poor lady a hug.

I am but unattractive to me means more of this person is not my type. Not everyone can be everyone's type anyways. Ugly would mean something universal, this person is ugly for everyone which simply isn't true. Person who is ugly for everyone doesn't exist.

Looks at least for lot of women are more sensitive issue since their worth is sadly measured by them more than their competence in lot of cases. Women are more easily to be declared ugly than men since looks aren't major point to measure men which is seen for example in harassment of women in video game industry. Women are excepted to take care of their looks when men (universally, there is areal differences aren't).

Fair enough, Panda. I think the problem stems from whether we interpret "ugly" as a universal statement or not.

I personally think it's ludicrous to believe such assessments could be universal. It's a recipe for disaster when people see them as such, as evidenced by the hot tempers in this thread ;)

Edit/PS: I find it equally ludicrous that people would seriously consider beauty as the sole and decisive factor in a person's worth. Since worth, however, is also somewhat subjective beyond what should be dictated by basic human rights and respect, we cannot deny somebody the choice to form an opinion (that includes beauty, if s/he so wishes) about a person that leads to the decision to invite him/her into the party or not.

I very personally also think that we could have done with a few prettier women in the game -- also considering that to my eyes, quite a few of the male NPCs are handsome. I like looking at beautiful people and things (in a non-creepy way, ofc!! :P )

Me too! She was so sweet in DAO. I absolutely loved her, so-much-so, that I replayed all of Orzammar when I found out you could get her a nug. I think that is where her "off-ness" is coming from for me then, I just want to see a smile.

Hm, I actually appreciate the fact that Leliana has had a lot of character development off-screen. It's not unexpected either; you could see it in DA2 already when she shows up at the Chantry. I really like the fact that she is so stand-offish and somewhat sceptical (at least up to now in my game), definitely a lot harder than the Leliana we know from DA:O. It does hurt a little considering that she was the LI of my canon warden, but it's realistic: The inquisitor is NOT the warden, AND Leliana is still in love with her, AND Leliana's world has all but crumbled around her when Justinia died.

That said, I don't know if I'm happy with how she looks now. Just like Varric and Cassandra, there's something that's off about her -- I think we need to pin this on the new engine simply being unable to render the characters as we know them from DA2.

I found his arc to be rather plain and rather dull. He didn't impress me in the slightest. He was a noob Templar in Origins... not much happen there other then to feel sorry for him. In DA 2 you feel like strangling him for being so ignorant. I could not understand how he manage to obtain such tile of Knight-Captain in such a short amount of time.

I'm among those who can't stand him. He whole demeanor regarding about the mages sucked in DA2. He was just another version of Meredith.  And yes. Bioware purposely brought him back to the game for the sole purpose of fan-service. Just look at Biowares store and you'll see a T shirt of Cullen that they're selling. Not one of Anders, no Alistair, no Duncan, nothing. Cullen seems to be Bioware's prize pet.

I have not bought the game and it's just as well. With the horrible experience PC players have had with the keyboard and mouse support and the badly implemented Tactical system, the odd-looking women in the game make is easy for me to give this game a pass. Whereas those technical issues have a possibility of being fixed with a patch, these women will remain ugly to me forever since there is no support for mods in this game.

Useless topic ever. Hope to get locked soon.

I played Skyrim enough to get bored of role model girls in game. They aren't real, seriously.
