I agree 100% that the general attractiveness of all characters in this game is terrible.

I think the designers, concept artists, and character artists at Bioware now just aren't up to the same skill level as old Bioware.

Baldur's Gate 2 had Viconia DeVir and Aerie.

Dragon Age 1 had Morrigan and Leliana.

Dragon Age 2 had Isabella.

And hottest of all, Mass Effect had Miranda Lawson.

Why are there no hotties (male or female) in this game?

Great post! Whomever was responsible for the character designs (big decisions, not the artists) was afraid to approve beautiful women. They rode the fine line of rugged realism vs giving us what we really want.

Theology is now in this thread.

Kill it. Kill it with fire.

I agree, I felt a shudder race across my spine.

If you don't like a thread, or a comment, ignore it, or refute it. Instead, you feel that you are better than everyone else.

is thread about Theology, nope it's some sad excuse for a troll whining s/he isn't turned on enough. god is not here, you may want to check whatever place of worship you prefer.

also please don't tempt me to turn into the jerk who points out flaws in other people religions,  more so don't give me such an easy target... I'm not strong enough to resist that for long.

This is theological, but if you believe in God (and God is love) he would never make something ugly. God loved Adam and made Eve. They were eternally beautiful. Ugliness is a consequence of original sin. Therefore, beauty is not subjective. It is absolute as God's love.

Is this real? Can any religious person confirm this is a serious belief? I-I'm... I'm a bit flabbergasted. These threads should be proof enough that beauty is subjective but this person (and the others who share this view) INSISTS that it is not. How do you even try to refute something that is in your face by using a religion-based fallacy? Seriously, I think it's way more 'absolute' that God doesn't like hentai so your avatar makes it really awkward right now.

I was responding to a comment about the subjectivity of beauty. Anyone can say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but we know there's a certain level of ugliness that nobody could tolerate. I explained it the best way I could with my knowledge.

Phantomrachie,

Do you agree that the women in DAI have masculine features?

No, unless I don't understand what you mean by masculine.

Cass has a square face, but that is not an exclusively masculine facial feature.

I think the male characters are better than the female ones. Dorian, Cullen and Blackwall are much better looking than everyone else imo. The artists just didn't find a sweet spot with the female designs.

Right I'm going to ignore any mention of religion from either side because I do not want to get into a religious argument.

Even if that was true it is clearly not true for the female characters in DA:I because there are many, many people who can "tolerate" them and actually find them attractive while some people don't. I think this kind of proves that their attractiveness is in the eye of the beholder, regardless of what you, or I, personally feel.

Maker forbid Bioware to actually want some more organic looks for the NPC they put so much time, love and money on creating.

So now you're saying that... eh... anybody who is judged 'pretty' by a wide majority of people (like models, famous actors and actresses etc.) is... unorganic, simply by virtue of being pretty? Seriously? (And no I'm not talking about plastic surgery)

I think this is highly subjective. If I choose one character whose looks I don't like it's Blackwall. It's my subjective view but I don't understand what people see in his looks. I'd say best looking characters are Dorian and Cassandra. I like how Cullen looks in some scenes but I can't get over the fact that he looked lot better in DA2 ^^;

Damn, this is still going, might as well contribute. Like everyone else says, beauty is purely subjective. You might not find someone attractive, but someone else does and vice versa. I personally find the women attractive, but that's my opinion, if you don't then fine, that's yours. I do wish people would stop starting these threads and stating their opinions as fact though. "All the women are ugly", no, you think they're ugly.

This threads hilarious.  I do think most of the characters of both sexes are unattractive compared to Bioware's past games, however it's no worse than Skyrim was. Ever since fox went off on the whole naked blue alien side boob action in mass effect, Bioware's love scenes and characters have gotten uglier and worse with each game.  Blame fox and social media if your eye candy isn't up to standard.

Meh it's just sad to have this after the perfect match of looks, voice acting and personality of DA:O Morrigan.

Taking accord earlier BW games I have to say Cassandra is so far best looking female character Bioware has done. :? Her face has most personality and charm.

Shame on BW for not creating plastic barbies and hentai characters instead of these realistic ones.

Indeed shame on BW for creating women to look more like women and not some "Blow-Dolls" or person that underwent hundreds of plastic surgeries or the one that came from Korean MMO. From now on they should make women as unrealistic and alien as possible with huge b@@bs that will fall down to floor it will be like "Tangled" but instead of hair it will be "b@@bs" version and a@@ so big that even Nicki's a@@ will be small in comparison, also they need to make them as naked as possible, dress them in maid dress,in leather clothes, give them a whip...because shame on BW for not realizing sooner that some people in here didn't came to play the game...but they came to f@p!

Agreed.  Kinda makes me regret choosing a female character XD

Fortunately, there's always the second playthrough.

The thing I'm disappointed in is that everyone has so short hair, they could at least added one with longer hair or made Leliana romanceable.

Because, clearly, Miranda totally doesn't look realistic.

Right, because we all know that women who are beautiful are the only ones with any value. Bioware should totally cater to the straight male crowd only.

I am not seeing a problem here other than Sera being hit repeatedly by the ugly stick.  Really the only female I have a problem with is my PC doesn't look exactly like she did in character creator and that is mostly a light issue.  The only other appearance I am bothered (just a little) by is Iron Bull looks more like a Texas Longhorn than Qunari.

By realistic, I submit Miranda from Mass Effect 2 and 3. So realistic it is based off an actual real life person who even voiced the character.

You are right that "ugly" is way to strong of a word to describe DAI characters. I know there are people who would genuinely find Cassandra appealing, too.
