Again this. Male players really should expand their idea of beauty since this is getting tiring. You don't see lesbian players complaining about ugliness of females or straight female and gay players complaining about looks of male characters (which aren't even close to supermodels either). Thus I have to believe that the problem is on straight male players and not in the characters themselves.
So we cannot have preferences when it comes to looks of the opposite sex ?
I like a girl who is a nonreligious intellectual with decent hair length, little make up and decent physical fitness. Being athletic and and an atheist myself, I dislike fat women and religious women. They annoy the heck out of me.
So now I am expected to change my standards because...a game came out and we have to because I are being told to do so ?
I am not going to change my standards when it comes to women. In my younger days, I did and all that resulted in was some really painful relationship experience. So screw that. What I expect in women is almost similar to what I expect in men and myself. I expect men to be not religious, not superstitious, be fit, be smart and be well groomed.
Sad to say but none of the straight male love interest tick the boxes. Josephine comes the closest but even she believes in this Maker and Herald nonsense. *Disgusted noise*
Which is a pity because Dorian and Solas are both agnostics and intelligent.

Nah, not everyone. Actually, I don't even know why I have the hots for him ( and I really do). I do like his character and have found his story arc interesting over the three games but appearance wise, if I were to find RL men that looked like him, they wouldn't be my "normal" type. Maybe I have been brainwashed?

Cullen is handsome, strong and he has gotten some serious character growth since the last two games. It is not surprising to see people liking him.
Even I used to not like Cullen very much in DAO and DA2 but looking at how he is now, I like him.
That's the thing you see. You can look at people like Cullen and Dorian and just say they are handsome and the majority of people will just agree with you. You can look at someone like Blackwall and say that he is masculine and rugged and people would agree with you.
I simply cannot imagine going out and about in public, showing people pictures of Cassandra Pentaghast, asking the majority if she looks pretty or not and expect most of them to agree.

I think someone has misunderstood the expression "fantasy role-play".
Most of the women in DAI, barring Leliana and perhaps Vivienne and Morrigan, look very ordinary. They do not look very fantastical in any way.

If we will got by "just hot" standards...only thing hot on Miranda is her body...her face not so and her personality is boring as f*ck...last I checked this was thread about "pretty girls as face" not look at that a@@ and b@@bs(because all DA:I girls have attractive body).
So we should tell BW that next time they should make just big b@@bs and a@@ as possible and they can put face of monkey if they wish and also they need not to bother writing character's personality just make it ice b*tchy as possible and boring as hell...no one will care since that character has body to bang so who care for rest.
If we go who is hot by my opinion from ME(both body and face)...then these girls are:

It's okay to have preference and type but it's okay to call these characters (or IRL people) ugly or something else just cause they aren't your own preference.

Allan Schumacher even stated that if there was one demographic he would be happy to short change it would be straight males, hence we end up with a bunch of what Bioware consider "real" women.
Personally I just want a bunch of Lara Croft types running around but not going to happen. Game of Thrones manages to have a bunch of hot, intelligent, awesome women so I'm not sure why Bioware couldn't follow suit and create hotties.
Lara Croft (the new one), Miranda Lawson, Leliana, Triss Merigold, Cersei Lannister, Eowyn, Triss Merigold, etc...They all look good and they kick ass...
I have seen developers from Bioware openly admitting that they would happily short change straight males, examples include Allan and David, for no logical reason. I personally find it odd that someone would take the time openly say that they would not mind shortchanging one of their largest demographic and yet their company parades on the motto of equality.

I don't think any sane man would prefer fat women or unintelligent women or women who cannot take car of themselves. These are basic qualities that make or break people's attractiveness.

That last paragraph makes me sad and it is super lame.
I am 100% in support of them having the gay and bi characters and relationships. I think that is great.
But that shouldn't come at the expense of straight male players. They are an important demographic as well. You can give them what they like as well. That's actually a good and smart thing.
What they have done with this game is just super lame and totally goes against the history of the company and its games.

I don't understand this line of thought, people generally can't decide what they find attractive or unattractive.

People are different. Preferences might have same trends but they change during the time and place. For example beaty standard in South Korea is: double-eyelids, S-line body, V-line face and small face. I don't think those attributed say a lot for people who aren't familiar with South Korea. Especially small face which is very used compliment for both women and men doesn't really say positive to me.
There is no universal ugliness and there never should be one since humans have lot of attributed and there is always someone who likes them.

Pansexual in here <.<
So if that fat person is interesting by my standards then I don't give a damn is that person fat,not super model,short,man,woman,alien...I would go out with that kind of person any time and that person is far more attractive for me then any other super hot model guy/girl that proof to be only good for being stared at and just for 'one-night-stand' while they are boring and their personality to me is boring as f*ck!
So fat guy/girl all over in this case.

Again it's people claiming these characters are ugly just cause they don't fit their preferences. You don't see me doing LI's for straight women are ugly threads here although none is my type.

People are also forgetting that until the extra year of development everybody did have equal choices. Cullen and Solas were "icing" so to speak and not part of the original plan. That is also probably why they are the most restrictive. The only other female even important enough to warrant being a potential LI (or not already claimed in past games) was Vivienne.

I understand that it's unrealistic to have every female character look like a supermodel, but why do ALL have to be ugly. Above all, why are the ones that used be pretty now ugly? Leliana used to be good looking, now she's all emaciated and icky. Morrigan went from being beautiful (allowing for graphics) to looking like an aged crack ****** (just look: http://www.dragonage...humans/morrigan). And the romance options are ugly enough to make one asexual for life.

Nice try, but it falls down because every other game in the history of Bioware's entire company had at least a couple characters straight males find traditionally beautiful/hot.
So they clearly knew how to hit this target.
There was a deliberate decision not to achieve that with this game. That's lame, disrespectful to a huge chunk of your market, and makes the game less appealing.

There is lot of players that are completely happy with Cassandra and Josie. Maybe people should staying they are universally ugly when there is people who find them gorgerous.
I will stand with my statement that Cass alongside with Jack are best looking women in BW games so far as my subjective view.

How necessary is it that people be attractive in this game? Well perhaps it is if there is a "romance" aspect to it, although frankly as the proverb goes, "One man's meat is another man's poison". Not to mention the other one about the eye of the beholder, which has been done in this thread already ![]()

It's interesting that you've decided which groups think what, and have attached what you see as the negative viewpoint to one sex and one sexuality, based on what you reckon.
No wait, it isn't interesting, it's basic low-brow Alf Garnett style prejudice.

I'm basing on it on threads on BSN. Why is there every week (and now after release one every day) threads that claim straight male players don't have good LI options in the game or that women in DAI are ugly (again from straight male players). It really isn't rocket science to make some generalisation based on that information.

In this case, I hope that the one of the main female love interest in the next game is a man that looks like Emille De Launcet as opposed to looking handsome or rugged. Or let's have one of the female love interest in the next game as an overweight dwarven blacksmith with bald spots on his hair.
Beauty is subjective right ? Let's see how accepted this will be among women gamers.

I have already said I'm none of straight female intrest isn't my type. Oh well, at least Cullen is intresting. Luckily even if I weren't attracted to any straight female intrest in next game either they could be funny like Iron Bull or intresting like Cullen or then I could do straight male character, lesbian character or gay character.. just like I have planned doing with DAI as well. No biggie.

Man this forum cracks me up. News flash at 11. Most men like beautiful women in the real world and their games...deal with it.
For some reason people cannot accept this and tell men to change as if there is a problem in men behaving in this fashion. Men in general like youthful healthy women with good genes and show great potential in childbearing.
Hence the preference for longer hair, sensual hip-to-waist ratio, clear skin, etc....
Funny how no one seem to be telling women to change their general beauty preferences which typically centers around a man with good genes who can protect and provide. Which means good looking men, resourceful / rich men and strong / rugged men.
Talk about double standards. If women can have their rugged hot men as love interest, so should men be able to have sexually appealing women as love interests.

Where there's smoke, there's fire.
This wouldn't be such a hot topic if everything was fine and this game had some traditional hotties. It doesn't.
Lots of people buy BBW and midget porn also. That doesn't make them mainstream traditionally attractive things.
Cassandra is butch with a scar on her face.
Josephine is fugly.
Neither of them come anywhere close to any kind of traditional hotness standard: previous Bioware games, <insert male magazine here> 100 Hottest Women, anything you want to use.
