For some reason people cannot accept this and tell men to change as if there is a problem in men behaving in this fashion. Men in general like youthful healthy women with good genes and show great potential in childbearing.

Hence the preference for longer hair, sensual hip-to-waist ratio, clear skin, etc....

Funny how no one seem to be telling women to change their general beauty preferences which typically centers around a man with good genes who can protect and provide. Which means good looking men, resourceful / rich men and strong / rugged men.

Talk about double standards. If women can have their rugged hot men as love interest, so should men be able to have sexually appealing women as love interests.

Man/Woman that likes to joke!

Man/Woman that isn't too picky about bloody place where we eat as long as we have fun!

Man/Woman that don't give me "bullsh*t" story when I ask them on phone what are they currently doing!

Man/Woman that won't make up stories about them to impress me!

Man/Woman that like games!

Man/Woman that aren't afraid to get their hands dirty!

Man/Woman that aren't afraid to be themselves the way they really are!

Man/Woman that know to have bloody fun!

I'm not looking for my handsome prince on white horse...I'm not looking for my beautiful princess...I'm just asking for bloody person that knows what word fun is!

AnneLadyx3, I think you won't find (m)any people here who will disagree with what you wrote.

But a lot of people will want to add

Man/Woman that is pretty/handsome/sexy/crush-worthy!

... and I for one won't fault them for that.

<meme face> Check ALL the boxes!

(The longer I play, the more the characters grow on me. They always do. I still won't call them attractive, and I'm still sad about Bioware's design decisions in this regard, but they do have a spot in my heart now.)

Nice try, but it falls down because every other game in the history of Bioware's entire company had at least a couple characters straight males find traditionally beautiful/hot.

So they clearly knew how to hit this target.

There was a deliberate decision not to achieve that with this game. That's lame, disrespectful to a huge chunk of your market, and makes the game less appealing.

A marketing choice, perhaps? ...ie: to reach a wider audience?

                  or

Not enough time because they spent the equivalent of 8 man years to

mod the Frostbite engine to play RPG?

I don't understand?

Why are the women 'ugly'?

You just have to do the job your selves with more effort and time spend if you want a certain look. I also think the faces look much more realistic and natural.
I always hated those games that limited you character creation to a narrow selection of glamour models. I like my character natural, raw and mature. There's enough manga dolls else where.

The new character creation function is really great. Of course you can create beautiful women if you like. It just takes time to adjust all the sliders. You have to go back a couple of times to adjust a change you did. Adjust your adjustment, so to speak.

But in general I think this character creation offers a lot more than any other game I've played. You can create almost any face you like.
I like the 3D floating adjustments. They are cool.

We were talking about female NPCs/companions.

"Masculine" would be a more accurate term than "ugly". Masculinity is not attractive to most males.

Oh, sorry. I thought you meant your own character :P

The only character I've seen so far is Cassandra Pentaghast in the first map (I gave up due to DirectX crash). But the screenshots I've seen of some of the other characters gives me a positive feeling. Leliana is so much more natural. I like her mature look. And h*ll, I couldn't turn down Morrigan if I met her

There's no excuse for the lack of hotties in this game. All previous Bioware games have them.

Again this. Male players really should expand their idea of beaty since this is getting tiring. You don't see lesbian players complaining about ugliness of females or straight female and gay players complaining about looks of male characters (which aren't even close to supermodels either). Thus I have to believe that the problem is on straight male players and not in the characters themselves.

the dwarf scout you can romance if you're a dwarf is pretty cute.

While the female characters aren't my cup of tea cassandra is fun to talk to.  right now my mage is romancing casandra, seems to be going ok, though she doesn't like it when he gives the mages a hand.  I feel bad for the lesbian players, with their only option being that idiot elf and that dull diplomat.  At least the gay male players get some cool characters to romance.

Its not the fact I think the females in DAI are butt ugly, I think the animations are making them seem worse. They move like men, not woman.  I am a seamstress and work at a casino fitting folks 4 days a week. The female body does not work or look like a male body. Perhaps that look in game is what I find bothersome the most> I just think every female in game looks like men with breasts, and they have huge hands, necks, and feet which throw the whole look out of proportion.  Some walk hunched over and just seem offputting.

So basically you're saying we should settle for ugly women. No thanks.

Besides this is fantasy role playing. Don't really see the point of role playing into a relationship with a troll.

And ugly females should really expand their idea of dudes not finding them attractive. This complaint is just deluded. There is a reason 3s end up with 3s and 8s with 8s for the most part. The whole "expand their idea of beauty" is just 3s being upset that 8s don't want to pay attention to them.

You sound like an uggo who's butthurt that the women he wants dont' want to lower their standards for him

Yes. They look like women that took testosterone. They certainly don't look like Liara, Miranda, or Jack in ME.

Yes, they tried to reach a wider audience by not catering the the most generally appealing standards of beauty that men subscribe to. Clever marketing strategy.

To clarify, Bioware can make good looking women. They just cannot make healthy women and romanceable good looking women.

What do I mean by this ? First off, in multiple Bioware games now, females have had hands and necks of that are thin an emaciated. We saw this is Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3 and we saw it in DAI. I find it odd that Bioware claims to be for gender empowerment yet they are content to make the female characters in most of their games, appear to be unhealthy.

Are they trying to promote thin skinny spindly unhealthy hands on women ? Even Cassandra, the female tough warrior, has hands that is out of place when you compare to the rest of her body. So does the female Qunari Inquisitor. It is as if they have no idea how to draw and animate proper hands.

Now the looks. Bioware can make women that are widely acceptable as good looking.Women such as Vivienne, Harding, Leliana are but a few of them. The issue is that the women who are the love interests are not very pretty compared to the non romanceable ones. Cassandra and Josephine look like jokes compared to Vivienne and Leliana.

Then there is the fact that for three games in a row, the straight male love interest, with the exception of Merrill are all human females. All of them.

It is as if Bioware is actively against straight males romancing Qunaris or Dwarves or Elves.

TLDR - Bioware are clearly making very strange design and marketing decisions.

I really start hating this world and what we have made of it.

Everyone believes that every woman have to look like a glamourmodel or a manga doll. Especially the later generations have this idea. No wonder when all they see is commercials and movies with pumped up goddesses who has spend at least three hours in front of the mirror after consulting plastic surgery, a make-up stylist and a hairdresser.

If you forbid all make-up, fancy clothes, silicone and close all hairdressers, you would not find very many women who resembles the ideal we have set up today. But maybe it would be a good thing, so we could all get down to basics again?

No, I like the women i Dragon Age: Inquisition. They are more natural. And I just love the character creation screen. It has so many features for creating faces that I haven't seen in any other game.

I spend 2.000 hours of Skyrim. My biggest problem was to find a mod that didn't involve a manga princess, or clothing/armor only a very wealthy person could afford.

I want big noses, scars, clunky cheeks and wild eye brows. Anything that makes a woman NOT look like the average glamour princess.

A shame you can't smell their garlic breath or the sweat after a battle either?

Whatever works for you...

Also, just because that argument keeps annoying me:

Everyone believes that every woman have to look like a glamourmodel or a manga doll.

Every single underlined part of that sentence is either hyperbolic or plain wrong. Next.

Don't forget race. First time I have seen Bioware add a black female and she is treated like background fodder. No romance for males with her. Jacob....? Not a problem.

Exactly. Just because people want some hotties in this game doesn't mean they think every woman on the planet has to be a supermodel.

Exactly. Just because people want some hotties in this game doesn't mean they think every woman on the planet has to be a supermodel.

I am relieved to hear that.

And, on the other hand, we bought this game to be entertained. So it would only be fair if the illusion contained some 'hotties' as well. :)

I must admit the romance is the most important to me. By romance I don't refer to sex, but the exitement by the eventual relation with another person. The process is the important thing, and it doesn't matter that much if that person is a supermodel or the opposite. It is the feeling that grabs you.

I played Skyrim for 2.000 hours, but the romance wasn't any good. In fact is wasn't really there. But when I played Mass Effect, I was breathtaken by Liara T'soni.
It took me by surprise. I never really played any game for the romance. I never thought about it. It was the puzzles and the action. So when the realtionship towards Liara toook a more serious turn I was... well, taken by surprise, and almost felt young again. And, yes of course, I think Liara T'soni is a hottie.

But I also think Sigourney Weaver is a hottie.

We are very serious.

  • It should be corrected because it's our opinion.
  • I would hope that Bioware cares about our preferences.
  • The faces look like (young) men. That is a fact. If you polled Cassandra, most people would say her sexuality is ambiguous.
  • Maybe creating a fem inquisitor would work, maybe not.
  • Whining can turn into not playing the game, so it is in Bioware's interest to listen to whining if it's loud enough.

**** Human nature (the behavior of men and women) has certain universal truths. Breasts are important. They come in many sizes, too. Boyish females with small breasts represents a fraction of real women.

The women would look so much better if Bioware used realistic skull, fat and cartilage shapes. The weird cheeks makes every character look like an alien.

Can you tell me what, exactly, it is about their faces that makes them look masculine to you? I mean, I can get Cassandra to a certain extent, she does have a fairly square jaw, but the others? I'm genuinely curious, as I can't see it at all.
