After a couple days of getting Directx errors whenever a cutscene played and some PC controls that are to be nice cumbersome, I thought this game was going to not work out so well. I'm not sure which one of the many fixes I tried stopped the errors, but it probably came down to me just lowering the settings, specifically the postprocessing anti aliasing. I also installed the newest nvidia driver, the update 4 for visual c++ 2012, and deleted the program data and temp files for the origin folders (per this thread).
So far I haven't crashed at all tonight and have been able to actually enjoy the game. Just the lighting and ambiance make it a great play; one of my favorite parts already is just exploring the chantry during the prologue. The weapon and armor customizations are sure to give me something new to obsess over, instead of which trees I want to put points into. I really don't want to rush through the game at this point so I can enjoy it all. I am hopeful that some of the issues that have come up will be addressed, and encourage people to try and power through some of the annoyances because the rest of the game is pretty great.
