I saw one of my friends playing, had a go myself, then bought DA:I, and I will now admit, a lot of the things that seemed very concerning watching videos and streams and listening to dev comments aren't as bad as I feared, or aren't an issue at all. Weapon use still looks wrong, great weapons especially, but it is not the spasmodic twirling mess of DA2, more like a complete novice doing cut tests in his garden (massive baseball bat swings, over doing everything, leaving their guard open enough to drive a coach and horses through..or more pertinently a decent halfsword hook and dump.) but in play it feels..ok it sort of works. The spell/ability effects that looked so chaotic and overwhelming flow well in game, don't get in the way at all. We don't have to be as pro-chantry as I feared we would, but I haven't seen as a Dalish any opportunities to be devout...for the Dalish gods, only anti-maker (which is fine as far as it goes),
The narrative of the main quests makes sense, and the side quests aren't intrusive and to me a lot of the make sense as well, the notorious ten ram meat quest, for instance makes sense in context of feeding all these refugees that have fled to the Inquisition for protection, several other Hinterlands quests work on this pretext as well, aiding the refugees, getting resources for the inquisition, all work. The companions: Cassandra is far less irritating than I feared she would be, she is far less sure of herself and more..nuanced may be the right word, than the woman who kidnapped Varric in DA2, Cullen is also a more nuanced character than his previous appearances, still don't like him, but their is more of a him to dislike, instead of a line drawing it was easy to hate. So companions and advisers, deeper and more interesting than the previous appearances and spoilers made it seem.
Not having the problem with KB+M that people are reporting, except I keep trying to left click things and end up blasting smoking holes in the floor, but that's a muscle memory thing and doesn't cause that many problems, the 'loot pulse' is not very useful, not terrible, but it doesn't help actually find things all the time, especially on sandy locations.
Weapons and armour look from ok to really good, armour so far looks credible, like it would do you good, I am concerned about the 'tiering' of schematics forcing me to go towards more over blown fantasy gear for higher level play, as I don't like gear that is too fantasy over practical, it to me, looks silly at best, armour has one job, and adding shoulders of spikey doom and a boob window, do not achieve that goal.
To close I am enjoying the game, I am having to ignore some issues I have with some gameplay decisions to do it, but it is a better game than DA2 ever was.
