Executive summary: It's a bit of letdown but still worth playing.

The Bad

PC controls are horrendous, they really are. Which is weird since these kinds of games have been around for decades now, some things just work and people are used to it…and then Bioware decides to turn everything upside down for no apparent reason.

My biggest gripes: no Auto attack, if you're playing a melee character you constantly have to move towards your target in order to hit (using WASD). Counter intuitive actions from mouse buttons. Tactical camera is broken and battles are uncontrolled chaos. Picking up loot is so annoying that you almost don’t bother, clicking on the ground somewhere should take you there not make you swing your sword in the air (and alert the rest of your party of the nonexistent threat having them cast defensive spells on you).

The inventory system is not user friendly at all. It takes a lot of clicking just to see all the stuff you picked up let alone equip anything.

Story might be descent not sure yet, but the “let’s form the inquisition” surely could have used some more buildup. An easy fix would have been to explain to the player “4 weeks pass and foundation for the newly formed Inquistion is slowly coming into place”. Instead everything just magically happens.

Dialogue choices are very limited in terms of role playing and no matter what you pick you come out as a fairly nice guy (at least so far I’m 20 hours into the game).

Pathfinding is also really annoying in so far that you always have to walk in big circles around NPC, it’s impossible to bump _anything_ to the side.

The Good

Interesting characters and party members, some nice and funny dialogues.

Exploring feels way more openended compared to DA1 and the same maps aren’t reused all the time as in DA2.

Game looks good.

Thematically I think DA2 was superior to DA. DA3 might end up somewhere in between.

Game feels massive.

Conclusion
The good outweighs the bad so far and I’m looking forward to my next session. I just can’t wrap my head around many of the really weird design descisions…

Apparently you can alter the tac cam and some of the other controls on PC to make them less annoying, it wont fix everything but it might help.
