Keyboard. Controllers are the devil.

Utter nonsense.

OP, it depends on the game.  For this game, controller every step of the way.

Uhh, technology exists to allow me to play a computer game with a controller, right? I need to get one of those. It definitely feels clunky on a keyboard... Not used to it, feels different from Origins or DA2.

Game was made for controller but rpgs are made for keyboards. I still prefer and use keyboard.

The pausable RTS style of this game SHOULD function better on a keyboard... too bad were only in beta testing for PC compatability...

This game is made with controllers in mind so mouse and keyboard is bad in this game.

I play on PC, and play exclusively in tactical cam with party AI turned off.  Controller is the only way it is somewhat tolerable.  The third party hack and slash works fine on keyboard though, plays just like an action MMO (I just find it boring).

The keyboard controls aren't terrible. They could be better, but they aren't terrible.

I can't imagine a controller being better.

I keep waiting for someone to explain to me exactly what it is that controllers do better. I can see things about the interface that I don't like, but I don't understand how me wiggling a stick would improve those things.

Sylvius, should I bother with this game?  I didn't pre-order (I did for both DA2 and ME3, so EA is never getting my money that early again), and a lot of what I've seen in user reviews (dumbed down the already basic tactics? no auto-attack on KBM? Huh?) is pretty damn close to convincing me to wait 6 months for it to be $15 when it tanks like DA2 did.

The game is definitely designed around console style controls, but I don't think a gamepad is automatically better. Either way I'll be holding a button to attack. Either way I'll have to walk up to things to activate them. I might as well play with my normal controls and have mouse camera control, which is a lot better.

Started on keyboard and mouse but found the controls awkward, mainly due to muscle memory holding down both mouse buttons to move and spin the camera.

Changed to controller and instantly found it more comfortable, because what felt like unintuative controls for Dragon Age on keyboard translated perfectly to controller. Holding down keys for Shield Wall or Block and Slash for example is a lot easier on controller than when your fingers are splayed out over WSAD.

Thing is, once I was used to the new combat mechanics, lack of auto-attack, held down abilities etc I went back to kb+m and found it *a lot* easier than when I first tried. I think traditional kbm players are struggling because they are trying to adjust to quite a radical change in gameplay mechanics toward hands on control as well as a more action orientated control scheme all at once.

Once you become used to one of those things the other comes a lot easier.

I think if you are used to fps controls on kbm you will have less issues than some one who primarily plays point and click. But I would say that if you have a controller you should try using one becsuse the advantages you used to gain by playing kbm are pretty negligible in this game. Hoverovers in tac cam, drag and drop abilities onto the hotbar. Thats about it.

I'm using KB/M and it's working well with a few hiccups that don't impact my playing very much.

The primary control problem is the inability of the tac cam to zoom out far enough and through roofs, and that's independent from your interface hardware. Anyway, it would take me months of practice to learn how to use a controller and become proficient enough with it to play with moderate competence, so that's not an option.

last time i tried using a controller i got trounced 18:0 in FIFA, i honestly dont understand how people use them, they are uncomfortable, the buttons are too few and poorly placed and dont even get me started on ****** thumbsticks...

I prefer to stick to me trusty keyboard and gaming mouse. Have to admit that I was pretty worried about the controls after reading all the comments on the forum but in the end being worried was not needed. I made some minor changes and have no issues with the controls at all. Maybe that is because I play many different games and they all require different controls, I dunno.

I totally agree with the comments about the tactical camera though. That could use some improvements but since I am playing on normal mode, I don't think I am going to need it much.

Going to try to game with xbox controller to see the difference.

tried both.. K/M is better until you go into tactical mode.. which ive had to do once since I started.. pausing the game on normal view has worked for me so far

For me it depends on the type of game. For games such as DA or ME etc. then I'd normally use keyboard and mouse (well with the PC version you kind of had to, but I preferred it any way).

Not for Inquisition though, it only took me about 30 minutes to switch to controller. The keyboard and mouse control truly is terrible in this game.

Controller or bust.

The only game I can play with K&B is WoW.

I don't even consider controllers a useable tool.  Games end up with limitations to meet the limitations of controllers.   That said, use what you are comfortable with.   If you don't mind using a controller, than it probably will work best for you.   The game limits your ability to take advantage of the kb/m flexibility anyway.

I'm sticking it out with Mouse/Keyboard.

Doubt the game or Windows would even know what to do with my old Thrustmaster gamepad I once used for the  Trackmania.games before Ubisoft said FU to PC gamers.

They need to add back in auto run, auto attack and interact with the right mouse button out side of the TAC camera, so I don't have to use TAC camera for good as it's utter bad for PC.
