I think I made a couple of F/Hawke tanks for that game...loved the combat, never thought about playing Insane/Nightmarre...but now that I finished Inquisition...
Is it me or is the combat much more difficult DA2? I've only played the games on hard, but I am curious.
I also played da2 after dai and da2 is more difficult on nightmare because mobs r tougher and more and some bosses are tougher too. One really needs to take advantage of cross class combos to be effective but then it eventually works. A disorient focused rogue mage party is easiest I think because it is more friendly fire friendly than stagger and has higher % to apply than brittle statuses. Basically I don't want to give to much away as this is wrong forum section but having a rogue apply fog disorient statuses and have your dps characters apply damage which take advantage of the disorient statuses. Game is easiest if hawke is either a mage nuker force controller or a dw assassin rogue. If you go spirit healer you basically don't die either and have infinite revive heal eventually but battles just take longer. That's the thing with healer or tanks: they are good to play safe at the start but eventually you might find that a dps oriented party of rogues dps (one support ranged) one dw close combat plus two mages one for crowd control support and one for aoe dps is best to kill things quickly. And having a well built assassin who can take out that elite rogue or enemy commander makes life a lot easier and battles faster. But there are many ways to beat this on nightmare. Oh and there are definitely ways to make a warrior insanely powerful by using medium armors and abilities to max critical chance and damage so your whirlwind two hander can deal lots of damage in aoe attacks. Some of my favorite abilities are horror, assassinate, fatiguing fog, gravitic ring, miasmic flask (make sure the aoe only hits the enemy elite on nightmare), walking bomb, blood slave, cleave, haste, death siphon (really benefits all mages) . I think those and a few more are good 2 like crushing prison.
Most people go primal tree when playing mages as it does no friendly fire and it's definitely strong but carefully managed walking bomb and or blood slave can kill mobs faster but sometimes also blows up your own party lol. fire elemental is also possible I just think spirit resist runes on everyone help out more against arcane horrors rather than fire resist runes. I am no expert on warriors though as I play mages or rogues but heard that two handers when speced for crit damage can do 6000+ damage to every target with whirlwind. Some dlc items make game really easier as without gold mods buying expensive rings etc from merchants is a drag and you may be can afford 2-3 50k items in a play though. But that way you won't be op.
I like hawke: dps rogue, mage or two hander
Ranged sabotage archer: verric or Sebastian
Support cc mixed with damage mage: Merrill
4tSlot interchangeable: tank aveline, crazy vengeance anders for more dps and haste, Isabela (works if she is not alone up front: dw hawke and izzy upfront with mage support from back is great).
JJust make sure in tactics you manage abilities that can do friendly fire to off (stupid bursting arrow), and set survival abilities like mind blast or evade etc to high even before any persist statuses.
TAnk aveline is great though with that upgraded mage shield ability and appropriate runes as then your dps mage can still mostly launch devastating aoes without totally wiping her out if she is talking up front.
