I'm looking to upgrade my computer. I'm a bit of a graphics nut, but I really don't kow that much about hardware and so on.

Anyway, I plan to play Mass Effect 2 with all it's glory turned up, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice about upgrading my system.
I've heard  that an ATI Radeon HD 5850 or ATI Radeon 5770 would be helpful, but I thought I'd get your guys opinion before I committed to anything.

Thanks a lot!

Here's my system as it stands:

Motherboard: ASUS P5N-D ( NVIDIA 750i SLI - Socket 775 - FSb 1333 ) 2 x PCIe

Processor: INTEL Core 2 Duo 3.16GHz E8500 + Ventilateur [ LGA775 - 6MB - 45nm - 1333MHz]

Memory: DDR2 2GB [1GBx2] DDR800 (PC2-6400) - CORSAIR TwinX x 2

HDD: SATA300 80GB - 7200 SEAGATE Barracuda 7200.10 (8 MBytes) (x 2 RAIDed)

SATA300 1.0To (1000GB) - 7200 SEAGATE Barracuda 7200.11 (32 MBytes) (x 2 RAIDed)

Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce 9800GTX+ PCIe ( GeForce 9800GTX+ 512MB 2xDVI )

Sound: Onboard

Power: 500W OCZ Technology StealthXStream Power Supply

For a new gaming computer I would suggest atleast 4 gb of ram. The rest is likely sufficient.

As far as the new ati boards go, I dunno if they are worth it yet. I mean, sure they are dx11 compatible. But games arent even being developed to use DX10. So, what's the point when hardware is far ahead of software.

I personally use ati4870, 4gb ram, intel core2duo 3.16 ghz and if ME1 is any judge, I get perfect frames on max settings.

Although personally with a 9800GTX+, Id just wait. If youre really set on upgrading and seeing a significant improvement, plan to spend a good deal.

I just bumped up from an Nvidia 8800 512 to an ATI HD4890 for about $190....best upgrade I have made in a while. I have a similar system to the OP otherwise except I have 4gb RAM.

Sorry for the messed up post, not sure why it did that.

Anyway, I look at my setup again, and I see I wasn't that clear. I do have 4gig of RAM. Two sticks of 2gig. I've also been told that I'm seriously under powered with a 500W PSU, maybe an upgrade to a 650W would be best.

But if you guys really think I'd be find with keeping my current setup as is, then maybe I don't need an upgrade. Thanks for the recommendations, I'll check them out.
