I saw a tweet from a Bioware employee that said they have affectionately christened this bug "noodle arms".  I will try to source it, but I got distracted and closed the browser.

Edit to add:  Twitter, EA answers.  Same thing, right?

Nice! Thank you so much man. I can rest a little easier now lol. Just the fact that they know about it at ALL makes me feel so much better. I think I'm going to go ahead and take a break from Inquisition until they patch that up. ;)

Oh, man. I'm getting this game tomorrow and I was looking forward of playing with male elf but seeing this... thing.... it's just sad. He looks like he got wedged between a wall and a garage door. He also looks seriously malnourished. Poor male elfs. I guess I have to go with a human, instead. Too bad. Definitely dampens my excitement somewhat.

Indeed, it does it and even more. I've been extremely excited and then on 20th of november I've experienced the male elf. Since then I have logged only few time to play with customisation. Maybe you should wait for the fix.

Will patch 1 be our salvation? or 'needs more investigation' 'working on it' 'soon TM'? I wonder if it is the same bug that causes broken arms and glued arms to the ribcage, or these are two separate paranormal entities.

That's a good idea but I don't know if I can wait that long. Though, I don't even have the game yet and I'm already waiting for a mod to ge rid off Dorian's god-awful mustache (hopefully possible), so maybe some waiting would actually solve both my problems. The beauty of the game itself just makes it quite hard not to get my hands on it.

Most definately I'm not advocating for dropping this game from the purchase list, but it might be better to wait until they fix this bug and then fully embrace story the way you originally wanted, as the male elf. Patience.

With my PC version of Dragon Age: Inquisition, I cannot  even log into the game without crashing or landing in an empty world. After over an hour of customization, I entered the game and each time I got dumped into an empty world. I already reported this as a technical issue to EA Technical Department.  I  created a female Elf; her face looks good, but I didn't get a chance to check her body. I do hope that Bioware is not maintaining that the Dalish Elves are starving creatures. They live in the wild. They should look lean and muscular and healthy but not sickly and anorexic!

They are not City Elves living under the domination of humans and being starved by their betters.  You gave us the Elves looks back in Dragon Age: Inquisition and represented them as people and not aliens from outer space (Thanks for that; they were so horrid in DA II). Please ensure you not only giving us the facial features, but also the bodies to match said faces.  The lore of the Dalish does not correspond to them looking like starving teenagers.  I always play as a Dalish Elf or an Elf from the Circle of Magi. This time around, I went with a Qunari first because I have been dying to play as one since I encountered Stern in DA:O.

Please do remedy this problem with the upcoming patch. Thanks.

Thats a fun one which I actually kind of enjoyed bug wise. Technically, you're not in an empty world you're actually in the first zone of the game. The stage for the character creator and opening cut scene is behind the mountains of the first zone. You can actually run from the character creator all the way to the Temple of Sacred Ashes. But there's nobody there and no monsters anywhere. It still plays all the battle noises though. So its kind of creepy. ;p

I can always trigger that bug by skipping the opening cinematics at just the right moment. It skips the cinematic before properly loading the next scene so it freaks out and just drops you in the empty starting zone. So don't try to skip any of the opening scenes if its happening to you.

Oh, I did that, believe me. I walked everywhere.  I saw only dead bodies but not actual living person(s).   I called EA Technical Support and they had me re-installed the game.  It is a bug that they will look into they stated to me.

However, my comment here is about the Dalish Elves. I hope this gets remedied with the upcoming patch.

I know this is a bit off topic from the purpose of your post lol, but speaking of City Elves, I rather miss the option to play as one or a non-Dalish altogether. Wood elves are cool and all, but I'm a vanilla elf kind of player.

Just throwing my opinion in there too, I actually liked the look of the elves in DA II. They were a bit anime inspired (especially Fenris), but they fit well in to the Dragon Age universe. You could tell they were finally finding an art style unique to their world, but I think they took it a little bit too far with Inquisition personally. Elves really do look too skinny now...anorexic to be exact. But I'll gladly take that over noodle arms any day lol, I can work around the idea if that's intended.

Lilac...you might not like the build of the elves then. The girls are a bit better, but they still look extremely skinny and almost unhealthy. (even more then in DA2)

I had to upgrade to a better PC (my laptop only played on low- NO! to lego hair!) to play the game and thankfully seem to have skipped the bugs...but to be utter horror and despair I am forced to play as a...a... *cough* human *wheeze* because the eye bleach required to get through even the intro as a male elf was too painful.

O. M. G! Why?

I played DAO as a Dalish male and romanced Zevran. *sigh* And at least got to romance Fenris when I got my hands in the mod that made him hot. But now? I cannot believe I am facing a Dragon Age without an elf option. And I really have to wonder why Bioware turned on the elf lovers- because you would have to try very hard to convince me that they don't have a hate on for us. What they did in DAII was bad enough but now? This?

And for anyone who wants to run the 'elves are a fictional species and the writers/designers can do what they want' argument. No. Just No. Elves are an iconic race in the Fantasy RPG world and in this context have their roots in Tolkein's portrayal of the race. In addition to this the modern Fantasy RPG elf has evolved through D&D and other RPGs and fictional portrayals. Many of us will still be swooning over the Elves of Katherine Kerr's Deverry series and similar novels.

Their are expectations amongst the fan base. If designers/writers what to get creative, invent a new race, don't bastardise an exisitng one just because you want to mix things up. People have an attachment to the Elves as they have been portrayed though decades of Fantasy books and games, be they PC or table top. A little respect would have been nice.

If anyone is wondering, playing a human is a dull as you'd imagine. *sadface* It's still better than putting up with the horror of the male elf bodies though. *shudder*

But hey at least I have Dorian to cheer me up a bit while I fondly recall the days of my Dalish warden and his snarky reactions to bigotry.

It is a stunning game in all other respects though, and talk about immersive! I'm only 23hrs in and I am visiting it in my dreams already lol! I can only imagine how great it would be if I were playing Male Dalish Rogue...

I'm still able to stomach my elf and his look only because of the armor that hides it. And stubborness. I refuse to beat the game the first time with any other character then my elf mage.

Its my tradition. The elves will save the day. An elf mage warden saved Ferelden. And an elf mage Inquisitor will save Thedas. (Hawke was human, but he romanced an elf, darn you! )

A mage and elf will be the hero the world needs. (take that elf and mage haters of Thedas. :P )

I really hope not.  I reacted ecstatically when I heard about a new installment: Dragon Age: Inquisition,  in the world of Thedas,  where elves would look like people and not some species from outer space.  Hence, I looked forward  with much zeal to play as an Elf and to see them  not looking weirdly out of place  in game.  So, I planned to play as a Dalish Elf after my first playthrough as a Qunari Warrior.  Ordinarily,  I would have co-currently played both races: Qunari and Dalish Elf  using  different systems: Xbox (One ) and PC,  but this installment is too massive (not complaining one bit here, Bioware! <3 ).

I have already opted out on the PC version because it glitches every time. I always landed in an empty land, with sparse dead bodies and no living being. Like the rest of the players who plays exclusively on PC, I am waiting  patiently for a patch for the PC version. With this news, I am  now also  waiting to play as a Dalish Elf as well until this  'problem' noted in this thread is solved, hopefully with the next patch (we can only hope, no?). In the meantime, I am playing as a Qunari female warrior on XBox One.

And, yes, Blue_Shayde, I would have been very peeved at the moment if I had opted to play as a Dalish Elf first instead of a Qunari.  Bioware , please deliver here.  You gave us back the original looks of the Elves. You gave us a gorgeous game. I am the merrier for it... I am reacting as a curious youngster in your enlivened,  stunning and immense world.  Do remedy this situation with the Elves, please. Thanks.

Oh the faces are fine. I quite like how mine turned out as well. It's a bit further south that it begins to go haywire.

Honestly, I played through the whole game without really noticing anything weird about the arms. I went back and looked, and his arms are held a bit weird sometimes, but it's not that bad, honestly.

Honestly, I'm surprised that you are saying it. Their hands are obviously broken and many armours accent it prominently. Also during all story cutscenes your arms are glued to the ribcage and you look as if you are past 'BRB BIO' To me it is not 'bad' it is game breaking, atrocious, bugged and botched. To be honest, I'm a little bit surprised that you did not see it. It is there, right in your face.

I'm actually not that bothered by it either. Sure, it looks a bit weird, but hardly monstrous or "immersion breaking". To be honest there is very little I find "immersion breaking", I'm not even sure what that means, this "immersion". I know when I read a book or watch a movie I can sometimes forget myself and the world around me, but I never experience that with a video game, never. Just the fact that I'm holding a controller in my hand and have to decide everything that happens makes so I always have to be present as a player and so I can never disappear like in a book. I dunno. But I digress. The point is, I'm fine with a game revealing that it is a game, because it is never anything else to me.

All that doesn't mean I'm against it being fixed, though, as it is clearly a bug, even to me. The fact that they've apparently affectionately nicknamed it gives me good hopes that they're looking at it in a serious way.

We most definately do not share similar spectrum of weirdness. To me, it is monstrous. Arms do not bend this way, maybe it is just me but I do not work in orthopaedic ward. Nobody stands with hands binded to the body unless he is in biological distress and tries initiate muscles tension. To me it is exactly what it is: RP, I'm not the player but Inquisitor. I don't get similar sensation from the books nor movies. When I'm facing new people, choices and my model looks like male elf in its current shape then I get RPly; aesthetically sick and my immersion implodes. I don't want to have my arms broken if there is no reason for it. I don't want to look as if I search for toilet every cutscene. As you have said, you don't experience immersion in the games, I do, people complaining about it also do experience it.

On that I can wholeheartedly agree. :) I cannot say I completely understand, but I accept that it is a bigger problem for you than it is for me. I hope they get it fixed some time soon, it will certainly enhance my playing experience as well.

The sooner the better. I did not buy this game to let it gather digital dust. I think that Thursday, I mean, today is a good day for patch to arrive. Because it is today.

Ow my - what is this thing. The funniest part? Mechanic even though extremelly thin, has better arms than elf model - at least they are not broken.

Both you and Solas suffer from the glue. Look at the first screen, how creepy Solas is.

I-can't-stand-it, this elbow. Elfin Within confirmed.

I'm looking at the middle pic and the arms do not look normal at all. Normally - look at yourself in front of a mirror - arms don't bend that way and elbows curve outwards slightly. I actually tried bending my arms to match the male elf's arms and... well... ouch. It's like his hands would've been handcuffed behind his back a couple of years too long and then stayed that way permanently. Even Solas has the same form in his arms but not into the same extreme.

Yes, evidently nothing can't stop glue from possessing elf's arms. How could they release it.
