Male Elf model and its problems?

They don't consider it an issue though. It was a stylistic choice that began with DA2 (big head, weird narrow body, weirdly narrow shoulders) It looks even more pronounced on male elves than in DA2 though (the females were more extreme like in DA:I). I've been complaining about it since DA2 and I'm sad to see it return I'm DA:I especially since Sera and Solas look normal (they have unique models). My elf's biceps clip into his ribcage because his shoulders are recessed and his arms clip through his hip armor for the same reason. I equip shoulder widening armor even if it's not as good (who would have thought the infamous BioWare shoulder pads of doom would come in handy?) but sadly in Skyhold his deformity is on full display and my mind ever so helpfully dubbed him "Messere Baby-Shoulders" >_<

DA2 elves look much better than what is presented in DA:I. I enjoy an alien appearance, except for deadly, head invading shoulders.

Look at Solas, he is healthy: http://forum.bioware...-in-next-patch/

I absolutely adore these DA Elves, especially the male elf in the first pic. His shoulders doesn't seem to have bone disease.

I really wanted to do my first game as a mage Elf (male) but those shoulders and arms just look too ridiculous. Solas has an ideal frame, no clue why they didn't choose that as a base for male elves. I really hope it's a bug and not a design choice.

It must be a bug, there is no other way. The way it looks now is simply ridiculous. If I remember correctly, BioWare said that new elf models look good. This is far from good and it has nothing to do with preferences but healthy opinion. Their arms look sickly.

Maker be praised! What has happend to this poor lad? It looks as if Vejita kicked in both of his arms. These are some serious fractures. Weirdly, Solas seems to be fine.

Yeah, Solas' arms look normal which makes me wonder if it's not some bug with either the armour model(s) or the skeleton rig they're using for the inquisitor. If you take the inquisitor's armour and put it on Solas, does that break his arms too, or do they remain straight? (cloth models so it'd need a mage inquisitor to check that, obv)

I have no idea.

Any mage here willing to put clothes on Solas and make screenshot for us?

Have Bioware even acknowledged that this is a problem and/or that it's on their "to-do list" for the first patch?

Rerolling because my elf that was supposed to rip peoples arms off looks like he couldn't even take apart a chicken wing. Looks like I'll be making my first human character in DA

I don't think it's at all intentional - it has to be a bug. When my guy walks, his arms are so tight against his sides that his hands keep cutting through his legs. I think a couple of joints are stuck somewhere - he runs fine, fights fine, but he can't walk properly.

It's a pity... I finally had a character I liked.

No, they have not. I can not imagine that they look the way they should. It is obviously a broken model and it requires correction. Truly game breaking stuff.

Yes, it is horrible, what happened to them stands against every word of advertisement they have made about the elves. These arms look damaged, not to mention how thin they are. Solas is a muscle man in comparison with player character. And his shoulders look normal. I will wait with my playthrough.

It can't be intentional. To be perfectly honest I have no idea how could they release this game with one of the major races being broken. Every cutscene looks like a desperate call for an orthopedist.

Some one tweet the devs bout this, I am kind of worried this is working as intended :P Hard to imagine they didn't notice this before release.

I don't have a twitter so I pass the torch: someone tweet the devs! It borders impossibility. How can it be working as intended? Look at Solas, his shoulders look normal, his arms look normal. Our characters look like abominations. Tragedy, it deserves nomination to the worst model of the year among the AAA game titles.

Thank you good soul.

I re-rolled last night, bugged model be damned, and I've found using the Inquisitor Battle mage armour an ok stop gap measure. It's got bulk in the shoulders and the arms don't look too bad even in cut-scenes.

Have you rerolled to elf or from elf? Still, being forced to use one armour to minimalise this tragedy is off in my opinion. Can you show screenshot of your character in the mentioned gear?

To be honest, in most of the cutscenes, I think it looks like he's desperate to pee, which really does take the power out of his emotional speeches. But... yeah... I can't understand how they didn't see how messed-up the male elf model is.

The male Elf looks malnourished, underfed and scrawny. That or at your Lavellan is half elf-half salarian.

I think they did see it and pushed for release anyway. I would give half of a kingdom to look at least like Solas. I'm waiting with my playthrough, at the beginning it was busy week but now I see no reason to start the game only to experience grotesque appearance. If they, with ill will confirm that it is intended to work like this then I will choose human. Shame though, I really wanted to play an elf character.

In the same boat with you man.. Would be a real shame if this was intended.

Let's be perfectly open about this: by all means it is not intended. They may claim it is just to avoid fixing model, but verybody with working eyes can see it is a botched work. BioWare artists I can think of without searching inter-webs: Rhodes and Thornborrow are great at what they do. Something is definately and seriously bugged.

It may be so, because judging by the dalish elf tarot card at character creation. The art style of the male elf does have perfectly formed shoulders unlike what we are seeing on the shoulders of the elf PC's.

Really, it is not even needed to look at this art. Solas is the best example of how the elves should look.

I don't like the silence, no response from BioWare is not a good sign.

I don't have a screenshot but in this video here, the guy's elf is where it. Look at the uncovered left arm, it's at least twice the width of the apprentice armour. He even puts it on Solas. Vid starts from where he puts the armour on, it's super early in the game so there's no spoilers.

There seems to be change. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, but look here:

At least to me it looks as if Solas has bigger arms than PC.

Even if armour has an effect on the model then well, we are still in bad position because during certain cutscenes we will look thin broken armed elfy.

Can someone be so kind and make screenshots of both PC elf and Solas in the same kind of armour?
