Male Elf model and its problems?

(cross posting from the EA Answers forum on the off chance that someone actually takes a look)

I am bumping this thread to bring attention to the issue -- attention that is direly needed as I believe enough people are experiencing the problem.

Here is a link to a video (not mine) showcasing one of the more pervasing and distracting moments where this bug is prevalent.

Mr. Odd - Let's Play Dragon Age: Inquisition - Part 10 - Travel to Val Royeaux [Elf Mage]

The strange this is, initially there doesn't seem to be a problem. The shoulders of the elf seem perfectly fine, the body doesn't look decrepit or bugged. At around 26:32, the shoulders then seem to snap and the arms are glued to the ribs. But the greatest offender is at around 26:54. The arms swing through the elf's body. Seriously?

How can this still be part of the game a month after release and almost three years of development? It's not good enough I'm afraid, Bioware.

In comparison, here is the same scene when played as a human male rogue (again, not my video).

The inconsistency would be laughable if it weren't so ridiculous.

Dragon Age Inquisition - Arriving in Val Royeaux

I implore someone from Bioware (or EA) to watch these two examples -- hell, play it for yourselves if you have time -- and do something to fix it. It should not be left up to modders to fix this broken element of your game.

The tactical camera needs tweaking, this much is true, but whereas that issue could be considered a design and implementation issue, this is not. This is just negligence.

So there was a mention of that cheat to get the armor in skyhold. Any chance I can get a ELI5 on getting it in my game, haha, I'm almost hopeless with this type of stuff.

Well, most issues can be quite well masked by armor. Not a perfect screenshot, but shows what I'm talking about:

tTGS6D.png

To be honest, the main issue seems to be with some clothing - especially Skyhold pyjamas and mage clothing without arm piece - making arms thinner than they actually are. Using an actual arm piece - especially late game ones - makes even elven mages look fairly formidable.

The Arcane Warrior's new inquisition commander armour in multiplayer is glorious for making a male elf actually look formidable.

*GASPS* OMG! That bit in the beginning in VR when the Orlesian woman looks at the Inquisitor like he's a freak and backs away...? So appropriate lol! GAH! It was chuckle funny as my human but the elf? Hahaha! Wouldn't we all do that in her place. :P

Its more battle magey. Kind of reminiscent of Hawke's champion armour.

Yeah, if it wasn't for the ton of junk software that gets installed with cheat engine (and I am pretty nervous about what unseen crap it also installs) I would absolutely have used it to get around these little issues.

Honestly, I don't know how anyone can use it with all the junk it installs on your PC...

Use "Custom Install" and don't agree to install the junk?  That's what I did.  Unless there is some hidden junk that you're talking about.

Sorry if a bit off-topic.  Just trying to help somebody get around this issue by getting rid of the Skyhold pj's.

So I took the plunge despite all the male elf bugs because I just can't play a human.  :(  Here's my cute Mahanon smirking at Roderick and I hope I can find decent rogue armor to hide his unbecoming boy-shoulders and glued arms.

(Also known as bumping the thread For Great Justice.)

Even in default armor Cillian's bod looks pretty hot to me.  Something is definitely fishy with the male elf inquisitor.

I've got a feeling that no one -- not moderators, not representatives, not produces, no one -- is currently looking at the BSN forums. Which is a shame, particularly since the Feedback threads are supposedly meant to go straight to the community team (who I assume passes things higher up the hierarchical ladder -- and I know, this thread isn't in the feedback subforum but I digress).

As an experiment, I've observed that many threads have gone off topic with not a single lockdown. Does this mean that the PR team have got their heads in the sand?

Does this also mean that I can rampantly derail this thread by posting links to far more polished games whose developers are continually in communication with their fanbase, such as this one http://www.larian.com/forums/ (the game has mod support, by the way), or even this one http://forums.cdprojektred.com/ ? I don't know, I guess we'll see.

Look, I apologise to Bioware for the fact that I may be coming across as irrational, demanding, or inconsolable but I have a few excuses:

1. I'm drunk and angry about external issues (whoops! Even more off topic!)

2. There has been NO -- I repeat -- NO communication, no word, NOTHING from any representative on these forums for f*****g ages

3. I dislike being ignored

4. I dislike being condescended to

5. I dislike the frigging elf model

6. I dislike that I'm being so vocal at the moment.

I will be a BioWare apologist on any other given day, but the fact of the matter is that at the moment, the PR is atrocious, the QA WAS atrocious, and the game is currently in a shambles. I am really genuinely glad that people are getting the most out of the game. Truly I am. I am also glad that it received GOTY. But this is not an excuse to sit back, smoke a cigar, sip some whiskey, and guffaw over your fu***ing success.

Now.

Chances are I will wake up tomorrow and regret everything I've written because I am under the influence of cheap wine (they added an extra 30% of wine in the bottle! Can you believe it? So great).

And let me be clear, this isn't just in relation to the male elf bug. It is in relation to every single goddamn issue that people are bringing up, all related to performance or bugs. I don't give a sh*t about things like the romances (frankly I am glad they've given more of a voice/power to oppressed sexualities and genders), I don't care about however people might perceive the storytelling because I actually think it is fantastic. I don't f*cking care about game mechanics that were clear design choices that are the prerogative of Bioware to implement. I just don't care.

What I DO care about is people being able to actually play the game. I do care about prevalent bugs not getting in the way of the experience. I DO care about people receiving and utilising a product that they paid a sh*t ton of money for. And most of all I do care that people are acknowledged, spoken to, communicated with and so on. This is a society for god's sake.

/drunken rant

I can't believe I just got so worked up over a bloody game....good god...

I will give you that it's a bit odd EA has these forums but Bioware keeps asking that we pass things over to Twitter / EA Answers to get them in front of the right eyes. I think I've seen more direct and informative responses on Reddit than I have here from devs. Which is kind of peculiar but Reddit isn't an official EA forum so maybe they can have looser lips there or something.

I'm all into skin tight gold armor for male elves, and I'm not ashamed about it in the least since I am head over heels for Abelas.  :)  Ancient elves FTW.

And I don't get the dark elf vibe from Cillian at all.  He's just so joyfully naive about everything, especially ham.

Skin tight ok but belt thong?

We are approaching 5th week. No news(except for multiplayer, check the main page: guides! so that you can get persuaded into buying things through microtransaction system), no communication. We are left alone.

I meant his design not his personality. He's sporting the dark skin / contrasting bright hair look.

Eh, the mutliplayer is most likely a different team like ME3 so I can't shift any of this on them. Also, for the record the micro transaction system is even more lenient than ME3's to the point of being superfluous to multiplayer. Gold is easy to earn and the DLC even seems to have increased gold drops.

It feels more like the micro transactions are there just because they technically have to be. Like, well, it's EA so we have to technically monetize it I guess. >.>

From my perspective it is a team wasted. Elves are still bugged. It does not help when they advertise new ways to spend your real money and provide content for it, while the singleplayer suffers.

Armors mask the issue without a doubt, but they still don't prevent the elf arms from being glued to the side during most cutscenes.

I'm not suprirsed they've got their head in the sand. Meanwhile, I think the fanbase is starting to lose hope. I for one am already looking more at starting up a DAO and DA2 game, whilst silently praying for the modders who are trying their best to slowly crack open the frostbite engion.

Its really sad, you know. If they fixed the elf rigging issues and let me wear armor in skyhold, I could look past the butchering of my mage class and the crappy shallow side-quests and still enjoy the game. That's all that's on my wishlist this year. Fixed rigging and no skyhold pjs. :(

Hell, I'll take fixed rigging and just use cheat engine for no skyhold pjs.

On a side note...

DAI just lost to Mordor for gamespot's GOTY 2014 voting, hopefully this will cause bioware to wake up instead of thinking consoles first over PC.

http://www.gamespot....-/1100-6423918/

Honestly, I really think this is right. DAI is good, but not GOTY good.

I can't say that game is good until most obvious bugs are fixed. I will not even go and judge story because it is immersion wise broken for me. I have not touched this game since its release. At least, it is a quite good exercise for patience.

Yeah, but at this point, I don't even know if anything that remains of bioware even cares anymore.

On a beautiful note, I was reading various news articles on google for DAI and it seems that because of its massive success, they will be drawing heavy inspiration from it for ME4. (its a rumor of course...but...)

Yeah, and time to redesign the Asari because they want them to be a unique race and not the proclaimed lesbian race of the universe.

Darnit, I was writing a lengthy metacritic review and my window went back, causing me to lose all 5000 words. And...I don't feel like writing that all again. <_<

I actually signed up for metacritic for the first time just to post that review.

Better write a letter to some online magazines and show how GOTY is doing. Sites giving this game top rankings. It is a clear indicator what should be avoided during potential read. I would not even give it 8.0. Obvious bugs should get eliminated before premiere.

Its funny the sheer difference between the critics and the fans on metacritic. Critics give it a 9, fans give it a 4.5. That's...quite a big difference.
