LunaFancy, in which country did you buy the game? (If you don't mind my asking.)
Australia, land of overpriced games. I pre-ordered too because it is not uncommon for local stores to run out of stock on new releases and PC games in particular are not necessarily well catered for in terms of stock availability. It was $80 on origin and I figure for that amount of money I'd rather pay another ten bucks and actually have something in my hands, you know? Now I wish I'd gone digital because I sure as hell would have been using their 'great game' (HA!) guarantee once I tried to make my elf.
And you know, I'm glad that other people like to play multiple races and classes and are having a blast, I really am. I'm not selfish enough to wish the kind of bitter disappointment this game has foisted on me on anyone else.
But the reality is, I like to play elves. and I like to play male rogue type characters, and that is it. In all 3 ME games I played as a male Shepard Infiltrator, I didn't try any of the other classes because I just don't like the skills. In the same way I don't want to play a human, nor does a mage or a warrior interest me, nor a female elf. I want to play as a male rogue elf. No one else has to understand my reasoning, just as I don't have to understand or share their desire to play multiple races/classes or females, do me the same courtesy I give to others and simply accept that we live in a big, wide world and different people have different tastes and move on. So please stop telling myself and others in the same boat that we are making ourselves suffer because we don' play as something else, it isn't a choice- I've tried and I hate it.
The fact remains that promises were made that convinced myself (and others) to shell out for the game. Had they not sworn black and blue that they had rectified the travesty of the DA II elves I wouldn't have given the game a second glance, even when it was bargain basement. I didn't enjoy playing Hawke and not even Fenris could get me to finish that game, so why would I pay $90 to not finish this game as a human- which is where I am now.
I'm 60hrs through a human playthrough and so incredibly over it that not even the Dorian romance interests me anymore. The difference being that I waited until DAII was $20 before I gave it a chance...
I don't know what was running though the designer's minds when they did the elves this way, and I agree that it is the developer's prerogative to do whatever they want design wise. I do, however strongly object to marketing ploys that use flagrant lies to sell a product under false pretenses. The proportions of the elves in DA:I are imbalanced from a basic design perspective and are such that nobody could point to them and say they are 'great looking'. But they did. To assure those of us who were horrified by the DAII elves that we'd been heard.
And I fell for it, along with many others. I feel as if I have not only wasted money (let's not forget that I and others actually upgraded hardware at considerable expense in anticipation of this game) but have also been made a fool of. It isn't a pleasant feeling and I am resentful.
Dear Santa, please give me a Christmas miracle in the form of a male elf model with unbroken arms and a proportionate body so I can play the game I paid for and actually enjoy it.
Oh and Questyquesos...*hiking simulator* ? I lol'd and lol'd. It's funny because it's true.
