Male Elf model and its problems?

You have thanked them once already:

I'm aware. I linked them again because people were arguing and mud-slinging over unrelated games (again). The "thank you mods" edit was because the mods came in and deleted all the off-topic posts. Which, apparently, people still haven't learned from, lol.  (The section for discussing other games and MMOs is here btw: http://forum.bioware...obby-off-topic/ )

Let's keep this topic to discussing the male elf bugs, as intended, folks? It's hard enough getting people and the devs to take this issue seriously without having to wade through 12847689 off-topic posts to find the ones actually discussing it.

Very nice of you to report posts of the people who have the same problems and simply in the frustration discuss different titles, for the comparison, statement sake.

Developers know where to seek things, it is not like I have not posted about this issue all over the forums. There is even dedicated thread about it on EA forums, link to that place leads from the first post in this thread:

http://answers.ea.co...04509#U4104509 all major cases presented

I d not think that we require inner police to control posts of highly disappointed players who were promised to receive good elvhes but got these things out of Exorcist movie series. After 6 weeks after release, it is only natural that frustration might be unbereable.

I'm amazed that you're still here while you let other off-topics in others threads roam free if you dislike them so much to report them. I'm just stating a fact and that's is not a personal attack.

Ironically enough the post of mine that was removed was mostly about the elf model anyway and the MMO bit was just me affirming my overall philosophy of each to their own and I'm no going to argue about it.

Whatever, 'tis the interwebs and strange people with strange motivations, even stranger sensibilities and easily ruffled feathers lurk in these here woods. *shrugs*

I think I am having the final fit over DAI today so please envision me belly down on the ground thumping my fists and kicking my legs as I scream

the following :

Dammit I wanted to love the game because the graphics are stunning and others are out there loving it but I just can't because of the elf model and they promised the elves would be good and NOBODY seems to want to fix it or even care that elves are broken. *sob*

/ tantrum

God, I wish I'd actually thrown a proper fit instead of a virtual one, might have been cathartic lol! I'm 100% certain that all the nitpicky issues (like super shiny armour and *yawn* the boring quests and lack of inter-part communication in quests) that are making it impossible for me to finish would in fact be completely glossed over if I were able to play as the elf I wanted to play as. Which makes me wonder how many people would be flooding the interwebs with grief if the HUMAN model's arms were broken and stuck to his ribcage?

I'm thinking they might have fixed that one by now, how about you guys?

The posts in question were an entire page of two people arguing and insulting each other over Korean MMOs and MMO culture etc, completely unrelated to this bug? So no, it's not like I was sabotaging any comparison discussion, lol.

Anyway, New Year's Eve is later this week, after which point I'm expecting Bioware to start churning out patches in earnest. Or at least maybe I'm just delusionally hoping that, anyway. I have two different playthroughs that are completely stalled because this arm bug (and the Dorian bug) made things completely unbearable to play. Using CheatEngine to turn off the Skyhold pajamas and wear proper armor did help a lot (for me), especially since at this point I doubt they'll remodel the proportions or do any major overhauls -- I'm betting we'll have to wait for mods for that. BUT yeah, the arm issue is killing me, there's been a few times when my elf's arms have literally vanished into his body, they were sunken so deep. :( Here's hoping it's resolved in the next patch.

It should be fixed by now. There is no excuse that can let them roll with these horrible models at this point. If it happend to humans then forums would be as in deep shemlen as Atlantis, I mean Arlathan.

There are always some holidays on the way that can be used as an excuse. I wonder what will we get as an apology token.

There were no insults, from either side. Just for the record. And the MMO thing was started because I want to find a game that actually used the $1400 rig I bought specifically for THIS game that I can't play because of the elf. But whatever...Tera looks pretty awesome and needs the specs so I'm sort of happy now.

Not about the game though- my bitterness over the elf model burns brightly still.

Ugh! Don't get me started on Solas. He makes me cringe so much I ditched him as soon as I could, he's like the product of a mating between Mr Spock and a spider monkey only condescending as well.

Seriously, though. If this bug had affected human characters, I think the game would have had a much different reception. I'm beginning to ponder the idea that they knew it was in there, but figured that the number of elf only players is low enough that they could blow us off without losing money. Especially since many of us would have pr-orders based on their empty promises.

As much as I would like them to include a fix in the patch, I am not holding out much hope in that regard. I think the modders will fix it first, and that is an understandably slow process, since they work in their free time.

Right? I adore Leonard Nimoy and looking at Solas creeps me out.

I'm not exactly sure if he would use this kind of hairstyle. It reminds me more of a dalish than ancient elf and their regal ways. To be honets he looks like a human to me. I miss DAII flair.

They wer elooking into it or investigating. One of these. I expect them to work hard on them.

I keep waiting for Bioware to troll us all and patch in a "fix" for "Solas's hair not displaying properly" which gives him a magnificently permed mane of hair.

Actually, I believe that hairstyle idea was inspired by Solas's original character concept art...

tumblr_nfx8vjuPZL1tte9mqo3_500.png

So at one point in the devs minds, he did have that sort of hairstyle. :P

Anyway, hello peoples. And Lunafancy, I totally feel you there with your little pretend rant. I think I could happily overlook some of the many nitpicky issues I have with the game if my elf male wasn't broken. And we could wear armor in Skyhold. Shallow side-quests? Meh...I got my elf. I'm happy. lol. So easily pleased.

Also...

Haven't played Pikmin 3 but loved the first two, I'm currently downloading Tera so I can make an elf and a Castanic, can't wait.

It's unbelievably good. And hey! I have an elf and castanic in Tera myself. xD I tend to play the castanic more. I've a soft spot for demons. ^_^

Just keeping the thread alive and adding my voice to the request to fix this male elf body issue. I've played as a human but would really like to play as a male elf. It took me about 3 hours to design a face I loved (a few attempts), but every time seeing the whole body in game made me shudder and exit to desktop. I can't look at it and see myself as that character. It kills the immersion. It hurts my brain...I want to stop playing and find the guy a doctor.

Please, Bioware. FIX this! A thinner version of the human form can't be that hard, can it? I mean, Solas is fine. Fenris was fine. You can do male elves without an issue, so... why haven't you? I know your artists rock. It's not their fault. It's got to be the Bigs sitting at their big table deciding what is a priority right now. Well, THIS should be a priority. Put someone on it, please.

There are plenty of examples already posted that prove the model is broken. Please do something about this. ASAP.

Yep...nothing like spending a loving amount of time getting the face of the Inquisitor you'ved pictured in your mind, only to get in game and see that work of love on THAT body model. I mean...the broken arms and the fact that the elf male's head looks 3x to big for his body. <_< ugh...

The male elf was given the exact same body shape Fenris had in DA2, so by your own words that should be fine. There's the broken arm issue, but other than that if the appearance of male elf in DAI makes you cringe you might want to play DA2 again and refresh your memory on what you think the fine looking Fenris was actually like.

His head still seemed properly proportioned to his body, though.

Male elf head sizes are identical between DA2 and DAI, too:

f06tra.jpg

this is nude male elf model from DAI (white, shaded) and Fenris model from DA2 (black mesh). As you can see they're pretty much the same, including the head. About the only difference between them is the flat nose bridge in DA2, something they reverted in DAI. But the overall size, the placement, even ears... are all nearly identical.

Yes, in the very base of it, that's true. However, its in the armors and the broken arms that the issue of the head comes in... (also, although they are almost the same size in your image, they still are not in many areas such as the arms, legs, and shoulders, where Fenris's black outline is clearly just a bit larger to appear outside of the white mesh of the PC. that tiny difference can have a huge effect on a person's perception of things...)

I did a pretty quick, not completely accurate I admit, breakdown...

QSz2kfY.png

Ahem...now first is the shoulder to head ratio. Normally, shoulders should be the same length of the head turned sideways. As you can see, both the PC and Fenris sport shorter shoulders then their head size, however, Fenris is just slightly larger and the shoulder pads of his armor (which he has at all times) makes up for half the missing size. Meanwhile, Solas is about around the correct, well proportioned size (as far as the human body).

In this breakdown of head to shoulder, Solas is most proportionate. Fenris second. The PC, third.

Next is the chest size and the space between the chest and the ears. Again, Solas has the broadest chest with the most spacing, followed by Fenris, and lastely by the PC again.

Finally, there's the hip to chest angle. For both Fenris and Solas, the turnout is mostly straight, again thanks to armor. The PC is angled just slightly more inward, though this picture is not the best for comparison.

In the end, they are similar while Solas is far more human. However, the PC is just slightly less broad and more awkward at points compared to fenris. (Again, Fenris's armor made up for a lot here.)

This is difference of wearing extra layers of cloth/armour, not the model shape. You're comparing what's effectively character with body paint, to one wrapped in a layer of armour and then to one in at least three even thicker layers of cloth/leather. So yes, wearing extra padding makes one appear as if their shoulders are wider, that should surprise no one. (and you can see it pretty well in the picture I posted, with that black wireframe of Fenris armour adding width to otherwise pretty slim shoulders) But to be fair can you do a comparison with the inquisitor elf wearing some of his armours?

I'm comparing the default outfits. (its not like I can strip them myself and take pics of them nude for comparison. :P)

And it depends when it comes to the armors, as some of the elf armors use the base elf body, others use the base human body, and some of the armors don't even fit either of those. Really, you have to question whether the modelers all modeled the outfits without having a single base body to go off of at the time. The sizes are just all over the place.

As I've said, if they would fix the broken clipping of the elf arms and their tendency to snap to the body, and let us wear our armors in Skyhold instead of that horrid job of a Skyhold outfit, the issue would all but be solved. <_<

Give me a second to look up various armors. Its surprisingly hard to find images of male elves in Inquisition outside of this topic threat. -_-

-------------------------------

ok...here's the breakdown of a few of the armors. They tend to be hit or miss when it comes to looking ok on the elf...

Here are armors which thicken the shoulders and make the elves look ok (despite their arms still gluing to their sides...)

Spoiler

And then you get these armors, that just look horribly wrong...

Spoiler

As I said, the biggest issue isn't the body itself, its some of the armors, the skyhold outfit, and the glued arms.

Of course, its just my personal opinion. *shrug*

The way I cut it is, the body proportions are the same they were in DA2, so it makes complains which specifically mention Fenris as example of how things should be done instead a little funny.

It may be 'hardly proportionate' by the human standards, but the caveat here is these are elves, not humans. One could as well complain dwarves are disproportionally stocky, and qunari are way too tall.

I understand that race plays a factor in their physique, but that has next to nothing to do with the proportions that seems to change randomly depending on what you're wearing. Why is it that in those pictures I posted the elf's head is so large and disproportionate to the rest of his body, whereas those posted by Blue_Shayde aren't like this at all (well, not really). It's the inconsistency that is the issue.
I've got a feeling it comes down to certain armor types. The elf male in Inquisition may have the same model as Fenris and Solas, but it still seems to 'break' sometimes (ala the arms clipping *through* the body).

*edit* further examples of inconsistency
