yeah, and about 90% of those human and elf players play female character. No wonder BW gave the girls more romance options this time around.

But on a serious note, I plan to play both a Dwarf and Qunari, and I can start those up tomorrow and take any notes during this particular cutscene. (not now. its 3am and I should get heading to bed soon. :P )

I've been pondering Qunari just to go around being all....Qunari and to finally have a char that fits the American VA. But yeah most people playing elves are playing dainty pretty female elves ( as a quick glance at the Inquisitor thread will tell you >.> ). The overall gender ratio is even but the individal race genders aren't. Only 16% or so of human characters are female for example. Most female chars are pretty elves. With female Dwarves being rarest of all at 2%.

Assuming you mean face shapes, which ones would you recommend? So far I've based my builds mostly off the middle one (seems to be the most square/chiseled face) and the two shapes following it for slightly softer features.

The middle one is a good base ( 3 I think? ) yeah. The important thing is to keep that square/chiseled jaw and have it be wider then the neck. While avoiding having too big eyes. Which is trickier as the elven eye options tend to be bigger and softer. Going with a DA2 style nose helps as well. There actually is one stubble complextion on elves too. Oh and tone the ears the hell down. Having giant hang glider elf ears realllllly makes them boyish looking. Scars help too:

I rather like my Sevant.

Of the elven face presets, I find that the preset 3 is best and also easiest to mod. The others are...I just...ugh. Specially the one that makes the elf look like his face went through a vice first.

But I find the best way to reduce the 13 year old boy look is definitely to adjust the spacing of the nose, eyes, and mouth. The longer the face, the older your character will look. Some people keep the face scaling the same, and then you get some really young looking elves.

Spoiler

Ok. I'm going to create a Qunari and a Dwarf. We'll see how that Val Royeaux scene plays out. Also, definitely showing a pick of what I was talking about the other day with my Qunari reaching for 'Andraste' at the start.

This is how far I got with my elfquisitor. I burst out laughing when the cutscene with my character in the bed started, looked so horrible. I can't believe anyone from BioWare actually played their male elf for longer than the first boss fight.

Quick! Download this to contain that monster within!! (For Skyhold and scenes which forces your character to wear that pajamas)

This is just getting really ridiculous to me that it's taking this long. I mean, I've got patience. A lot of it. Especially for proven and respected companies like Bioware and I've been tapping into that large reserve of patience for a month now...but MAN is this going over the top. I check in here every day just to see if Bioware's responded with an update or maybe to see if a fan has news that we're getting a fix soon, but no, nothing. I'm even at the point now where I'm checking my regular gaming news sites each day for SPECIFIC patch news on Dragon Age: Inquisition and still, nothing. Maybe I've gone to the point of pathetic obsession and expectation...but Bioware...EA, guys...I want to play your game. Please fix the arms! That's all we want! :(

(I don't have the luxury of modders to come save the day as I chose to purchase the Xbox One version this time around. The best of luck to you, PC modders, I envy your alternative options at this point.)

I have not even startd this game yet. Patience and discipline! Devotion reaching high archs of the zeal!

Yes, it is ridiculous, insulting and as some people here( as in local tumblrites): it minimalises my experiences! Even Ubuysoft-Receivehard has been better in their patch pursuits. BioWell and toilet anticipating elves are a disaster and so are the other bugs in this game. They must have holidayed hard considering no news on the horizon.

Man, there's that one preset. #4 I think? The Mulan preset. Where it completely looks like a 15 year old girl cut her hair and is trying to sneak into the summit as a soldier.

I played up until Skyhold and finally threw in the towel, I couldn't do it anymore. I waited THAT long before I let the arms get to me lol. I'm 30+ hours in and it sucks to not continue -_- I just won't.

Hello from the land of the Qunari.

I'm happy to report that the Qunari does not seem to suffer during the Val Royeaux scene as badly as the Elf. Mind you, there is still clipping at the waist, but only a small bit. No full sinking into the body.

However...the Qunari has a host of its own issues, mostly involving clipping. And its horrible.

uMPnLkY.png

The back of the neck CONSTANTLY clips through the collar of the outfits you wear. They made the Qunari neck way to thick in the back. Its...really REALLY bad. Also, where the elf hand floats in the cutscene in haven, it sinks into the Qunari. Combine this with the fact that almost all mage armor does not actually appear on Qunari, AND a glitch I seem to have that is keeping my Character Record locked so that I can't even spend my level up points on new skills (what is this? )...and Qunari seem to be fairly cringe-worthy to play as well.

I'm really, really convinced at this point that they built the entire Inquisition game on humans, then threw the races in last second and just used the same animations they'd built around the humans and their physique, rather then properly testing and adjusting the animations accordingly to each race. <_<

I'll go ahead and test the dwarf next, but I'm pretty certain the underlying issue of the male elf lies in both the broken rigging of the arms and the use of human designed animations for all races.

Yeah, you can still see his arm being sucked in a bit. Interesting. Also yeah, the Qunari armour issue is already known as was the back of neck thiing. Qunari seem like a late development addition that just squeaked in out the door. This is what happens when a publisher wants something out by the holiday shopping season. >.>

Looking back, yeah, Qunari were announced in the last year of the development cycle and are basically Opposite Elves. Too beefy rather than too skinny.

The Skyrim pajamas continue to ruin everything. -.-

lol. Skyrim.  :P

Well, here's my report from the land of the dwarf. No clipping issues in Val Royeaux what so ever. Either its the lack of hip on a male dwarf, or the shoulders are spaced just right.

The only issue I noticed with dwarves was the beginning cutscene, where Cassandra is leading you forcefully through the crowd of people convinced you are guilty. The game temporarily forgets you are supposed to be shorter and not taller then Cass, being a dwarf. Otherwise, the rest of the dwarf seems just fine. A tiny bit of clipping in the back of the neck, but no where as drastic as the Qunari. And the fingers clipping into the body when resting on the bed in Haven. I took pictures, by why bother even showing at this point.

So in the end, Elf males clearly have the worst clipping issues when it comes to the arms (particularly at the end of the val royeaux entrance scene). Qunari the worst when it comes to the neck and head region. And Dwarves seem just fine outside of the first couple cutscenes at the start.

(and keep in mind this study was done using all male forms of the non-human races)

Yeah, it's painfully obvious that the game was made with Human-only in mind. I mean, I'm glad they went back on it and changed their minds with the returning races, but they feel shoehorned in at the last minute :/ People rarely seem to mention or care you're another race. I can get passed all that though, it's just a little bit of a let down. I miss you Origins lol. :P

Actually being an elf comes up fairly often and even leads to some awkward conversations. As well as some screaming matchs with Solas. <cough>. I do enjoy the walk before the Templar mission where that pompous ass goes on about "How this is not unlike the second march on the reclaimed Dales" or something and your elf just silently stares at him then adjusts his posture like "Really? I mean....really?" Plus elves have a connection to the main story so you get unique dialogue there as well.

I was actually a bit surprised at some of the differences as all the doom and gloom on the forums made it sound like being an elf would get mentioned like twice in the entire game. It also made me realize that some of what I thought was "default" dialogue was actually racially specific to human.

Can't speak for Qunari or Dwarf yet though as I haven't tried either for any length of time.

Hmm...yeah, I get plenty of mention at times about being an elf. In fact, that's mentioned more then my being a mage. I spoke with Minearva in the temple, turns out she was Dalish and her clan cast her out because there were to many mages. Awkward moment. The Qunari get a lot of amusing references. Lets face it, you're tall and in charge. There's a guy in Val Royeaux that would talk with my elf, but when I tried to talk with him as my Qunari, he freaked out immediately that I was going to try and convert him.

I think the only disappoint being a qunari mage is the fact that the game forgets I'm a mage and that would mean some bad things for me if I followed the Qun.

I haven't played the dwarf to far, but Harding makes a mention when you first speak to her that she's glad to see another dwarf in the Inquisition.

Finally, when you don't play as an elf, Seggrit will happily refer to the elf girl as a knife-ear. Which makes me want to smash his head in as my Qunari. <_<

So...I don't know. I get the feeling they were forced to rush the release and not given the proper time to test the non-human races. But apparently it must have worked and all those happy critics must have only played human...

Don't forget the Quartermaster mistaking you for the janitor when you first talk to her. Or the awkward racism conversation with Josie. >.>

Race felt like it mattered much more than class which surprised me. But on the other hand its kind of a bit of a refreshing change from  having the story revolve around mages yet again.

I've been ill so no games (not even DD! *sobs*) for me for days now. BUT... I did pop in to DAI just before I succumbed to the germies and OMFG! I can't even take playing the human what with the oily super tanned skin thing going on. So I just made a pale skinned human and were the hairs always this plastic looking (playing with everything set to High) in the beginning or is this a patch 2 thing? I had to give the guy a buzz cut because there was something so jarring about such a realistic face and such lego-like hair.

Anyway I bailed just after the intro once I saw the hair would be not shiny because I realised I'd still have to deal with the stupid rogue armour and my 60+hr play through dude just got some good armour that isn't ridiculous and there has been talk of an in game appearance tweak so mebbe I'll wait for that and avoid having to do the stupid hinterlands yet again. *takes breath*

Now...

Back to the elf, I can't take the look of my rogue in his silly highwayman armour but has anyone got a pic of a warrior? Are the shoulders better in that armour? Not that I actually want to play as a warrior but, if it will let me like the look of my elf...

Elf or human, will I ever finish this game?

If you're wearing one of the modular scout armours just put Scout Mail arms on it. It adds some more armour to the shoulders and beefs them up nicely. The Scout Mail in general is pretty bulky amour wise.

Alternatively, get Dalish armour. Since it was actually made for the elf body type. It fills out the chest and has wider shoulders. Lemme grab a screenie..

But don't I have to get to the Hissing Wastes before I get the Dalish armour? It looks awesome but I can't make it that far with spindle-noodle-elf I'm afraid. :(

Scout armour with arm upgrades eh? Maybe I should make up another elf and give it a try. I mean, the graphics are glorious and I actually do want to play the game (especially after forking out for a high end rig so I could) but jeez...so many things are wrong with it! At least I've learned my lesson about the tans now, no sun bronzed boys on DAI unless you want them to look like glazed gingerbread men in quest. They look AWESOME in the cutscenes though...

Off to make up another elk... wish me well!

You only need to get to Skyhold to unlock the wastes. Plus I've found it as loot a few times as well. For the light armour you need to go to the Dalish in Exalted Plains me thinks and convince them you're not a shem lover. >.>

Isn't the hair being shiny on higher detail because of patch 2 and its issues? Make sure your mesh quality and texture quality are the exact same level.

Race felt like it mattered much more than class which surprised me. But on the other hand its kind of a bit of a refreshing change from  having the story revolve around mages yet again.

The janitor thing didn't bug me to much. I mean, come on...everyone is running around doing jobs and a dalish as a herald is sort of new. Since the quartermaster and I hadn't met yet, I figured there was no harm in him not recognizing who I was and mistaking me for one of the elven helpers. I didn't really feel any malice from them, unlike Seggrit who definitely holds some malice when he speaks of 'that little knife-ear'. <_< And with Josie, she was genuinely interested in learning more about my life as a Dalish, which I can't blame her since the Dalish mostly do prefer to stay completely away from humans...which would lead to misunderstandings and rumors from said humans.

What surprised me more was when talking to the quartermaster and learning she was a supporter even now of Loghain.

Race does seem to matter a lot more this time around in conversations, rather then class. But that can be a bad thing to if you're playing as a mage. Like...I was really hoping Iron Bull would comment about my Qunari mage. But no...all he seemed to notice was my being Tal'Vashoth.

And as an elf mage, I'm so torn. I want to represent the elves, but I also want to stand as an example to mages. But you can only choose one of those when you vow yourself as Inquisitor. -_-

I have the mesh on high- lord I've had everything on freaking ultra and it still looks like poo! Machine seems to handle it though, which is cool I guess.. Seriously- what the hell is with such crap hair when the skin is So Good? I dunno.. *rolls eyes*

Looking relatively proportional so far, Now if I can just avoid the highwayman gear I might actually finish the game...

ScreenshotWin32_0318_Final_zpsdb2115c4.p

I know it won't last...and am dreading the nekkid scenes...

Oh and How Do I do Cheat Engine? It seems super confusing to my addled brain...does the nexus mod help with the moobs if you use the patterned jim jams?

Gods, I am actually feeling excitement akin to when I first started- this can only end badly. Stay tuned for a hysterical ice cream fuelled melt down coming to you from this direction sometime soon... I feel a monumental let down on the way lol!

Oh yes...I do believe my keeper would have a few words for me if he/she knew about my taste in lovers. But I don't care! Dorian is to adorable to avoid.

Also, you're guy is gorgeous. nice job. And to answer your question........its Bioware. When have they ever truly excelled at CC hair? Usually for BW, its hit or miss with hair.

The nekkid scene wasn't to bad with Dorian. Course, I might have been to blinded by the glory of his tush to notice anything wrong with my elf. He did seem ok though.

I've never really noticed an issue with these so called moobs. I think Sevant is just fine...

Yes, he has pecs. But no moobs. I mean...people do realize there's a difference, right? <_<

Point taken re the hair. :/ But still- they have pores in the skin (and in the case of the elven complexions- a whole lot of imperfections including cheek capillaries wtf?) and the hair is so fake lol! WTH?

Seriously though, how hard is it to get a nice complexion in the elves? That was quite the trial.

Thanks re my dude, I'm quite taken with him myself, violet eyes and all! Now here's hoping he doesn't go all spider monkey on me in game and break my heart...

*chants to self* Keep scout armour, don't sell it. Upgrade arms. Keep scout armour, upgrade arms...
