*chants to self* Keep scout armour, don't sell it. Upgrade arms. Keep scout armour, upgrade arms...

Avoid the arm upgrades. Specially if they do break armors.

But yeah, find the armor that works for you and just stick to it. Myself, I've only played the game so far wearing a total of 2 armors. The DLC and the battlemage armor.

I don't know why Bioware does great with skin, but horrible with hair. Its like a personal curse of theirs. I mean, seriously...10+ versions of shaved hair? And thinking that Qunari players would prefer horn variety over actual hair variety? Sometimes I really wonder. They did ok in the past to. I really liked the hair for the characters in jade empire. And heck, look at Varric's chest hair. That there is where all of the funding and resources for hair went. That's some magnificent chest hair.

Okay, it's been a while since I actually played the game...now the scout armour is actually the highwayman armour lol! So not touching that... can I keep the Mercenary coat we start with and upgrade it maybe? Can't remember if I found any with higher stats...

ScreenshotWin32_0320_Final_zps948f9978.p

I like his shoulders in that...though it suffers badly from the clipping

ScreenshotWin32_0319_Final_zpsb7f83523.p

Still, for me the shoulders is the greater of the two evils...Need Dalish armour ASAP I think.

Not sure. I don't think I've ever seen another version of that armor outside of the beginning one.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Hmmm... Perhaps I can stick it on easy and try to survive until I can get the Dalish armour lol!

7th week emerges from the mist of holidays and extended period of excuses. What will it bring to us. Tomorrow's the greatest of days in should-be-making: announcement of the upcoming patch. Will it happen? Will broken and glued arms go away? Will we get free features as compensations for the harrowing we were unwillingly exposed to?

best thing about elves so far is the origin story in origins... franky getting tired of the choice between deviant or revolutionary freedom fighter. Elves should have more ethereal rooted paths. Their magic is stronger G-DANG-IT!!!

well, the problem mostly lies in the fact that its been so long since those days that most elves either forgot themselves completely (city elves) or struggle to recall from what little they can remember or discover among ruins (dalish). That's why its so fascinating to talk to Solas. Of course...

Slight spoilers (but I'm still staying vague about it)

Spoiler

As broken as the game is at points, I don't deny that BW still intrigues with its story and as an elf fan and mythology fan, I eagerly await the next installment if these questions finally do get brought to light.

Yes well, I won't deny that I am intrigued, but I sure as hell won't be paying more than $20 for the next installment to find out after this one!

Okay, well, big news. LunaFancy is an all growed up PC gamer now, I've just worked out how to activate and use shadowplay (squees) so will have some recordings after todays sesh! yay! It's interesting because I have seen a few moments when my elfisquizitor stops moving and his arms suck into his body from a normal position. If I catch a moment I shall disp0lay it!

Meanwhile, I am adoring him in the mercenary coat with his normal width shoulders and have vowed to change him from DW to archer and run him around hideously underarmored until I can get to the dog in the Hissing Wastes and buy him a Dalish schematic! Scout mail with arms is another option but since my human only found scout mail at lvl16 or something I am resolved to shooting things with sticks rather than hitting them with daggers. Which is fine really, since I have discovered that DW sucks hairy goats balls courtesy of my human run, nowadays he uses the bow more often than not anyway.

And after all, for true DW Rogue awesomeness I have DD- man that guy has some moves! :D And Tera too, once I get back to it!

Also, just checked a couple of screenshots and it looks like when he walks he is swinging his arms with the leading leg, instead of the usual diagonal pairing in the ones where he is moving. Is that something anyone else is noticing? I'll keep an eye on it, but none of the other charcters are doing this in the shots. It might be isolated incidents but it is in two different areas so far...

There actually are upgraded/higher level versions of the Mercenary coat you have at the beginning, yes. I've found a couple so far. Think they're called "Elite Mercenary Coat" or something like that. They're blue and silver rather than green. The green one is just the common/white con one. I've found rare blue con ones. Haven't seen a unique purple one yet.

One of the merchants in Redcliffe sells near every basic armour upgrade schematic for 20 gold each if I recall right. Thats why I had all the patterns to test at the beginning of the Templar mission. I think its the dwarf bookseller by the dock?

Cheers Xhaiden! You give me great hope with your sightings of elite mercenary coats and merchants who sell all the stuffs! :D Great hope indeed!

OMG! I Like My Elf!!! Finally after 100hrs of miserable human play, I get to enjoy the game- and now perhaps even in armour that will protect me? Much happiness here lol!

See, I was so sad playing my human noble I just went through the motions, last night I discovered two gorgeous structures in the Hinterlands that I had never seen before in either the 40hrs I spent as a human warrior or the 60hrs I ran around as a human DW... See Booware, immersion matters!

Now, if we can just get the noodle arm-vegeta/Ironbull hug-arm clipping issue sorted...

That mainly seems to affect early cut scenes and certain armours far as I can tell. It seems to affect light armours on elves more though I think? The starting mage armour is pretty awful on elves of both genders. I've kind of fallen off the rogue wagon atm and am pondering a mage. I might go elven mage and delve into the light armours to see which offer salvation.

I have the DLC/Deluxe armour of the dragon though. Which does wonders to shield you from the early game armour problems until you find armour that looks decent on your char.

Yeah I looked at the DLC armour, but it's too spike and swishy for my tastes. I like my rogues to look, well roguish lol! Plus I've rationalised the mercenary coat as making him look like an elven ranger now, especially if he is carrying his bow (which we totally should be able to switch to and from mid battle like in DAO by the way *looks hard at Booware*) as well as giving him lovely normal looking shoulders, so now you've given me the hope of higher stat sets to come I iz happy!

Looking forward to playing with shadowplay too! So exciting! Mind you, I wish I'd had it for the Dorian hook up scene with my human, they were a fine looking couple!

Its default colours are pretty gaudy. You get the schematic for it at Skyhold though and it looks much better in more earthy rogue/ranger tones with silver. More sort of imperial elf army:

Those are nice colors. The dlc armor doesn't bug me to much with its colors on my mage. But for a rogue...yeah.

Can you switch to a dagger rogue from an archer if you choose archer during character customization??

Also, I got the cheat engine running, so at long last I'm running around in armor inside the war table room. Now I'm content. Skyhold will be easier to handle. :)

Oh, yeah, you can buy unlimited respecs for 375 gold. First one costs 1 gold. When you get to Haven go to the Blacksmith, there's a sort of rack on the right side on the wall of the building you can buy them from. You're not stuck with bow or dagger. Or 1H r 2H on warrior for that matter. When you get to Skyhold you can buy another one for 1 gold. Not that it'll matter much, you'll have more than enough gold to buy tons of them over the game if you want.

I'm just allocating my points into bow instead of daggers at the moment. I'm not sure that you even need to respec with a rogue. I did the same with my human when I realised DW is not handled well enough to play as most of the time. It really isn't. Even DA2 had better DW combat than this, and it was waaaaaay below the standard of DAO.

I'll still point up the DW tree now I know I will get melee proof armour down the track, because really as far as the bow goes you only need a few decent moves, and there are some cool things to be had in the dagger skills tree, but only some. Where are my Dirty fighting and below the belt moves thank you very much Bioware? Anyhoo, with Darrik the human rogue (like how does a noble born dude become a rogue anyway? Drinking? Gambling? Was he sent to the conclave in a last ditch effort to reform him? Wow, an origin story would have been helpful there, wouldn't it?) I used the top four buttons(playing controller here) for his DW and the right button layer (which I think of as bottom, work with me) as the archery ones, made things easier since it was a PITA to coordinate the RB into a straight up melee fight with eight button. Seriously, if they ever fix the PC UI I am so ditching the controller...the layout sucks for DW!

I've made my first vid! *preens* Gods, I feel like I have finally made use of my shiny new and expensive PC now lol!

Oh and already I've had elf specific convos that made me smile. Mind you if one more person fails to comprehend that a Dalish elf would follow Dalish religious beliefs I might be forced into violence. Oh wait, violence is kind of the point of the game! :P

I know I could do that with my party members. But I assumed the pc was stuck since you have to choose one or the other during CC. Interesting. What was the point of choosing then? lol

Okay, so I started my male elf from Haven again and used CheatEngine to get him some Dalish Scout armor right away.

And I'm convinced that it's an animation issue.  In the scene when you first meet Vivienne, he starts out gesturing as normal, and then you can even see the moment he settles into that scrunched shoulder pose.  It's painful to look at, actually, like he's just trying to scoot his shoulders up to his ears and his head drops forward awkwardly.

I took some more screenshots but I'm not sure this will get across what I'm trying to say.  In the first and second screenshots he looks (very) fine to me.  *fans self*  In the last screenshot you can see the bugged out pose where half the width of his arms are sunk into his sides and this results in him looking like he has the body of a twelve-year-old.

Yeah, I believe all the issues with the male elf starts the moment the character gets stuck into that arm glued to side pose in cutscenes. Then from there, its downhill for the rest of the scene.

See, I'd like to use cheat engine but for the life of me I can't work it out! I went so far as to download it, but my AV threw a hissy fit and wouldn't install it. I know I just have to turn it off and do the install but I'd like to know I was going to be able to use it once I went to the bother. I've seen the video on the site and frankly- made it seem way more complicated than I originally thought it would be.

So. Since you're using it Tielis, can you please answer this question for me? How do I know what line of code to fiddle with like they do in the video? Is there a list? It looks so confusing!

But I'd really love to be able to at least keep my armour on inside, because I love my Falandriel in his mercenary coat...all normal shouldered and strong looking! I'm actually enjoying the game...going to head home to Haven and chat to Solas soon, Xhaiden! :)
