Don't make Allistar king. Let him stay a Grey Warden. Then he takes Stroud's place later on and Allistar actually still retains some of his sense of humour.

Also, someone will always lecture you regardless of choice really. Though its kind of funny who that is sometimes. Like Leiliana is upset if you ally with the Templars. But Cullen is upset if you disband them. I thought that was a tad interesting. I disbanded them. I'm much more afraid of Leiliana than Cullen. ;p

I find Leliana totally kickarse and awesome. Not sure why everyone thinks she's a psycho. =)

Usually its Sera, Cassandra, and Vivienne who tend to disapprove the most with my idealistic, nice guy ways. Sera mostly only cause she can't accept that she and I were both born elfs. <_<

And great. Another random, irritating bug where my pc fell in combat, so I took Iron Bull control, went to revive my pc, and then the game decided it wouldn't let me switch my controlled character. At all. Had to reload to a previous save to undo it. I'm running into a lot more frickin bugs in the new playthrough with patch 2 installed.

Sera dissapproves of things that suck up to important/rich/noble people. Cassandra should be right on board with your nice guy ways. Vivi dissapproves of you not acting like a rightful leader. So she doesn't generally approve of compromise if you had the option to take command instead. She'll also get on your case if you don't accept responsibility for your position as leader as well.

Also I have no idea how you are finding and experience so many exotic bugs. I haven't even heard of some of these let alone experienced them. >.>

I'm finding I have draw rate and stuttering issues now, whereas I never noticed them on my human run- which was mostly pre patch 2. But thankfully none of the bugs you're having!

I can't believe how much more immersive this game is as an elf (with shoulders). The Solas covos, the bit where I get to point out I'm not a human when they make me Inquisitor, the 'is it going to be an issue' chat with Doz. Plus the random bits of slip of the tongue bigotry I get to call people on id fab. Why the hell would they neglect the model when the story clearly runs deeper as an elf?

Having to run on God mode to avoid dying from single hits due to crappy armour makes things fun lol! My Cory fight was all pretty colours andf flashes and no dying- and I took out the giant on the Storm Coast and got some awesome Free Marches rogue armour I'll never be able to wear. yay....

I'm having so much fun taking tourist pics with him lol! He'll have to have a slide night when it's all over lol! Here he is just after we arrived in Skyhold- wearing his armour indoors! :P Apparently unequipping his bow just gives him daggers lol!

Yeah...I'm not sure why my luck is so bad this round. So many fun, exotic bugs I've never seen before. Thankfully, save and reloading seems to fix them.

Shayde breaks the game...

Spoiler

Though to be honest, I've always been slightly cursed to find strange bugs...that's what happens when you actually work as a game tester for a bit. You can never escape...

Yeah, the game is so much more interesting and fun as an elf. And a mage. I think with Sevant I'm going to go full mage support, representing da mages here. My female elf can be all elf supremest. :P To bad elves are broken. Really praying for a fix here.

No spoilers...just me discussing Sera, Cass, and Viv approval...

I just want the wicked grace card game scene, darnit.

Oh hey, I've been getting the NPC non response thing too! I just thought it was me or the controller or something lol! Really irritating. As is that thing where you get the elusive 'in quest interaction' chance and you miss it because there is no response to what you've hit. Dorian did it to me in Skyhold last night, I clicked my response 'Dalish is right everywhere' but said nothing...then he repeated the words I chose but didn't say... odd.

Also, I notice Cassandra's arms doing the sinking thing dueing our chat in the courtyard. Nice to know male elves aren't the only ones I guess.

No news on any patches as yet it seems, I'm starting to wonder if they just aren't going to bother at all.

Hi there,

I just made an account to support this thread. Ive been fighting with the male elf look in this game ever since it came out.

The only way how I can play right now is with a mod that basically disables the skyhold outfit, because I could not stand my elf male inquisitor walking around his stronghold in his pyjamas.

But that is a different problem. The broken arms are everywhere, except on the starting armour - which basically means that you spend an hour creating your character, boom the intro cutscene is there and you are all satisfied with how he turned out, you finish the prologue and then in that final cinematic when you are standing outside Havens chantry a new armour is equipped on your character and the broken arms issue smacks you in the face and you just realize how ****ed your play-through is.

There is a lot wrong with this game. The designers choices. Some of them are not so bad as the others. But then there are these freaking issues, fix them! Pretty please? You want more money than the initial 50 quid you already got from me?

I dont know. Whenever I just try to play this game and Im almost enjoying myself like I did in the previous titles, something always comes up and all I can think about is this: https://www.youtube....h?v=nF_Ca45JRFs

EDIT: also, on a sidenote, its impossible to recreate the elves from the previews, right? I mean the one from the greyed out bust/image? I mean, that hairstyle is not even in the game and no matter how long I mess with the sliders, I just never get the face right.

I haven't tried to make the promo models but others have and say no. I just keep remembering reading that the elves would look great this time since they had so many complaints over the Avatar wannabee creatures in DA2. No idea how we went from great looking to what we have. *shakes head*

I am lvl 10 and still running around in the 43 merc coat I got at the beginning because it's the only armour that gives him shoulders and unbroken arms, (why they took shoulders away from the elves is a mystery in and of itself) so I sympathise with you. I spent 60hrs on a human and was actually hating  the game. I'm enjoying it now, though I'll be stuck on God mode forever if I can't find the better merc coat or the Dalish or In Death Sacrifice don't give him decent arms and shoulders.

It's a really crap thing they have done, they promised one thing and did not deliver. Now that I have 20/20 hindsight, I am thinking back to the absolute dearth of preview images for elves in the immediate run up to release  and concluding that they knew full well what they were doing. They just wanted our money. And All that time I was toying with the idea of cancelling my pre-order at the game store because after DA2 I felt they couldn't be trusted with the elves. Well, there you go. I was right. Wish I'd cancelled when I had the chance.

The thing is, I would love the game if this arm/shoulder issue wasn't there. I want to love it, I do, but as it is now, it is just sad.

I agree with what has been said so far.

The Elven (or Elvhen?) body frame is just sooooo freaking skinny, it'll put any Victoria Secret model to SHAME and that's just the males!!  I'm surprised my female elf inquisitor wasn't just wisped away off her feet every time a fade rift would close due to excess wind force (meaning gentle breeze) from the minor explosion.

Don't even get me started on the CONSTANT giant head syndrome that ALL Elven character's are graced with.

For 5 straight hours spent in character creation, even with the jawline, cheekbones and chin width all set too minimum on the sliders I still managed to create an elf girl with a gigantic head.  I think the time I've spent in the character creation menu is almost on par with the amount of hours I've spent playing the actual game.

If I could manage to pull off something relatively non-elephantiasis looking, the section between her mouth and cheeks would pout way too far out that it looked like she constantly had marshmallows in her mouth; which is fair enough because she's probably constantly hungry considering her and Mr Burns share the same skeletal frame.  Is there an unspoken back story of incredible famine throughout all of Thedas that has hit the Dalish extremely hard?

I'm surprised she didn't spontaneously fracture her ulna or radius every time she nocked her bow and let an arrow fly but kudos to her for being able to lift an arrow out of her quiver without spraining her wrist ... much.  Can inquisitors claim worker's compensation from the Inquisition due to RSI from trying to save the world?

Okay so I'm sorry for making this post sarcastically whiny but honestly, it's so hard to invest into a character role-play when they look so freaking weird!!  Maybe I'm just a perfectionist but I get pangs of chest pain every time my elf inquisitor looks like she got hacked with giant-head mode in every single camera angle.  I especially hate travelling back to skyhold where the armor is off and she's in those skin tight inquisitor pyjamas that only "flaunt" her massive ... brain and malnourished-esque frame.  The thing is, male elves are only a fraction thicker than their female counterparts which is unnerving.

I feel that aside from being able to recreate your inquisitor's face throughout the game, there needs to be either more in depth face sliders (such as overall head size) and/or body sliders so that we can either create a body to match the giant heads, or smaller heads to match the 'less than zero' sized bodies.  At least just for Elven Inquisitors.

I mean every time I eat in front of the computer I literally have to minimize the game because I feel horrible gluttonously eating in front of impoverished elves.  I can't deal with that kind of guilt while trying to save Thedas.

All in all, sarcastic snideness aside, this is just the rantings of a big fan of all DA games so far  :P.

Looking forward to any potential changes to character creation  :).

I really hope this horrible bug gets fixed officially, in a patch. Console players don't have access to Cheat Engine, so an official patch would make everyone happy.

I refuse to look at the arms issue as an intended design choice, this has to be a bug.

I just can't imagine the animation team thinking: "Yeah, let's make the male elf arm arms move into the sides, all glued up and looking broken!!" "Yeah! That is a really cool idea! Make them look unique!" :|

To me it looks like more of an animation bug than a rigging bug. Because certain animations don't have the glued arms. You even have cutscenes where your character walks in at the start with arms at a distance from the sides then all of the sudden they snap into the glued position when he's done walking. Ugh...

Idle pose has its own issues too. Someone posted a T-pose of the male elf model - it really doesn't matter because the actual animations can deform the T-pose very much. You can have a good T-pose model, but if one of your animations moves, say, the shoulder bones too much in then you'll have a distorted model.

Any bone on the skeleton can deform even a properly rigged mesh if the animation moves it unnaturally.

Having a good static model will not guarantee a good animated model if your animations are borked somewhere.

Only where they wear armour like that, try a enchanter robes or apprentice robes on then you'll see or skyhold robes.

the broken arms are all over. Its just some armors mask it better then others.

I wonder what's so wrong with having tolkien style elves. Its relevant with the movies out, its favorable with most elf fans, and no ones going to knock you for having pretty elves. Hell, I don't see them trying to make the Dwarves unique and alien. They are basically dwarves in every sense of the word. Living underground, mining, drinking, hitting things with hammers, being able to give a female dwarf a stubble in CC, etc... <_<

Ooooh! Lookie!! =]  (and yay! I got back my battlemage armor.)

So I went to Crestwood and killed the Northern Hunter and got the In death, Sacrifice armour. Was it worth it?

NO

Back to the crappy ar43 merc coat for Falandrial. I've decided to go to thje Hinterlands and see if I can find an elite merc coat in the mercenary fort before I hit up The Hissing wastes because really, God mode is zero fun.

I did take advantage of the invincibility thing and went in DD on the dragon though- that was no fun now that I have experienced the thrill of Dragon's Dogma- I kept trying to jump on it's back legs to climb up, I reckon there'd be a sweet spot between the wings lol!

UGH! This game has so much wasted potential it makes me want to scream.

There's few common complaints in the threads about elf looks in DA. One is it's been done to death and is thus boring. Another would be with no visual difference from humans one may as well play a human, and/or that one would expect some more pronounced difference between species.

Hell, I don't see them trying to make the Dwarves unique and alien.

DA dwarves actually have proportions which differ from the most popular version -- stereotypical dwarves have very short legs, compared to rest of their bodies. DA dwarves are much closer in proportions to stocky, smaller humans, to the point some people would comment on that when DA first launched. Yes, unlike with the elves ironically having more human-like shape is breaking the stereotype when it comes to the dwarves.

Not sure that there are more wanting alien looking elves vs Tolkein types, and as for DTD. Really? Bec ause I've had a hard time finding a SP game where I can play as an elf that doesn't look like a freak to be honest. Skyrim has revolting elves unmodded, and my old laptop couldn't run the mods so I never played it. Will get around to it on this PC eventually I guess but still- where are all the beautiful elves that make the concept so boring hiding? Honestly, I want to know so I can go and play them!

Anyway, after the crushing blow that was In Death, Sacrifice (which looked amazing  on my human btw) I'm wanting to spare myself any pain in discovering the Dalish rogue stuff doesn't fix the shoulders for me so, can I ask a favour from someone with a male elf please? Can someone post a screenshot of their elf rogue in the Dalish set? Male by preference, but even a female should give me an indication of whether or not it will work.

Thanks in advance! :)

Until then, I guess I'm off to seek the Elite Mercenary coat, though who knows where you get one! Can I cheat engine myself into a set I don't have yet?

I think I've seen more complaints about elves looking horrible then needing to be a unique race. If anything, I think games like DA and Witcher do a perfect job of making their elves unique with the lore and politics in the world, rather then the appearance of the race. I mean...elves are usually ethereal and somewhat feared/respected. But these games make it so that elves are considered a lesser race, broiled in battles of racism and, in DA, a dieing heritage and culture struggling to cling to the ruins of what is left. That's more then enough unique to make things interesting right there. That story and culture, and being involved in it deeply, is why one would play elf rather then human in DA.

And you know...humans are pretty boring and cliche, but I don't see them trying to make the human race unique. (in fact, i find humans really boring, overdone, and cliche. Which is why I love games that let me play something other then human.) Let's take a look. Humans are short lived, balanced in all classes, usually the dominating race in the land, often prone to greed and pride, and look like humans. Yep...nothing new. Not even the culture of humans in the game is anything new.

And I still don't see how the dwarves are any different from dwarves in any other game. Honestly, its a bad excuse in my opinion. If a race is supposed to be beautiful and attractive in the eyes of humans, making it semi-human but alien does not keep to that. Instead, you enter the realms of "Uncanny Valley", causing many to feel creeped out by the elf appearance.

But regardless, I'm not saying the elves in DAI look bad. They actually would look pretty ok.......if the heads weren't so large compared to the body and the arms weren't broken. And that's mostly because they left the uncanny valley of da2 behind and went back to elves that are more human. (face wise)

(If unfamiliar with the theory of the Uncanny Valley... http://en.wikipedia..../Uncanny_valley )

@Lunafancy

Yay! Another elf fan who...like me...can't stand the elves in Elder Scrolls games. They are horrible. Though conveniently, the females still look pretty.  <_<

I have found some rather interesting Skyrim elf mods including some for male elf followers that look...intriguing... wink wink. But that's a PM discussion! :)

Now, I feel compelled to preface this next bit with a disclaimer- I am aware that I may be just a little over invested, I just don't care at this point.

I Have Dalish Arnour!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's fabulous! SQUEEEE!

And I named it Dalish Shoulders! haha!

The dalish scout armor is the only armor I use on my dalish character. I hope BW fix the elf arms and give us some race specific armor DLC, I would love some more dalish armors. Now that would be great.
