They can try their hardest, its to much fun to actually play an Elf and a Mage in the Dragon Age Universe. You really get a feel for the darker bits of the world, like the prejudice and distrust. You also feel a little more connected to the plights of both mages and elves. Plus, you play human characters in almost all games. Its boring. I like when my fantasy games give me a chance to be something other then human.

On a side note, I've figured out why the male elf model has such broken arms. Its all Iron Bull's fault. He got a bit frisky over the ale one night, gave your male elf a big bear hug that was just a little TO tight, and now you're deformed for life. :P

I need to draw this as a comic strip XD

You should make a story about broken arms, their feelings and dreams for future. Tell a tale of broken promises, chances taken and forceful relocation by the ribcage shores.

Seriously, no news on the horizon. Vejita's syndrome is overlooked- wrong - I mean, I'm sure that BioWare peeked inside this thread but no official response is almost saddening.

Did they fix it yet? I absolutely adore my male elf, but I'd love for him to have Solas' build.

They did not fix it yet. Even worse, they did not even address this issue. Silence, as if they are building a little shrine to Dumat in their office.

Apologies for my delay on this.  I have been active in other places following up there.

Are the issues with the arms seen everywhere?  I saw similar issues with my lady elf, but only with a particular upgrade on a particular piece of armor.

Ok, I wasn't going to post again but I feel I should point out that Allan in another thread about the same subject mentioned that he's noticed broken rigs in certain specific situations in his own game. They know.

It's only been, what, a week? Give them a freaking chance to sort through all the feedback they're getting. And it's unlikely they're going to bring it up until they have something more specific to say than "we're aware of this." They have to replicate errors, figure out in what situations they happen, how widespread it is, what it'll take to fix, and therefore whether we can expect a fix in the first patch or a later one (if at all). I'm sure they have a list of fixes they want to make. They have to then reduce it to fixes they'll be able to make, and then prioritize based on how critical the issues are, and how long they will take to fix.

Lots of companies let employees take their vacations after a big launch. Plus, if they have any American employees, it's the day before Thanksgiving (if anyone doesn't know, a big part of the holiday is visiting family). So that's something, too.

EDIT: Aaaaand  'd by the man himself, haha!

I quickly loaded up the game and snapped a screencap, and this is what the elf looks like to start:

So (at least to me) not all elves are created with disjointed arms!  But it does seem like some combinations of armors can cause this.

I don't think it's a bug.  I think the developers just tried to make the elves look like they had lanky, yet muscularly toned arms.  But they went about it the wrong way.  Honestly, it's not the arms that bug me so much.  It's the freaking SHOULDERS.  My male elf has the shoulders of a 10 year old girl.  **** is ridiculous.  That and of course the horrible hair options.

BioWare, if you're reading this, For next game, make the elves have bigger shoulders.  I am begging you.  I like the lanky look.  I do.  But you're overdoing it with the shoulders.

Oh I am very well aware of what's involved at launch, post-launch, and moving forward. Bugs taker priority for sure. I also know that BW is a good company and I hope at some point these are addressed.

Bug wise, the shoulder do appear broken, but better with certain armors. Still a bug because the shoulders should look the same with *all* armors...not fair to force a player to wear armor they don't want to fix a bug BW should address.

From an aesthetic point of view, which of course is largely subjective, I am really disappointed with the art direction of the male elf.

- The boobs.

- The 10 year old girl build, e.g.: stick arms, stick legs, stick neck.

- the head that, to steal a line from So I Married an Axe Murderer, "looks like an orange on a toothpick".

These are the issues that mean a lot to me because I ALWAYS play an elf in fantasy games...I am already human, what fun is it playing a human?! But I still want a character that can be somewhat heroic looking.

From my point of view, and I have played these games for years, too many to note, lol, and these elves are by far the weakest looking I have ever seen. I never thought I would long for the FFXIV version of "elves" instead.

Anyway, thanks for the response, Allan. I hope you got some good time off, or will. Keep up the great work. And maybe one day your team will find it in your hearts to give us a stronger male presence as a male elf. A guy can dream right?!  ;)

Here is a related link from another thread showing some bad ass elves:

It seems like certain armors kind of...equalize all race bodies into a middle ground. Faction armors and such for example. There are also armors with bulky shoulder and upper arm pieces that hide the problem. The ones that are skin tight to the body like the Skyhold outfit and many mage armors really highlight the issue. I believe the broken arm look is caused by the shoulders being more narrow than the ribcage. Since the shoulders are smaller it makes the upper arms clip partway inside of the body causing them to look bent or sticking out at a weird angle. If the shoulders were wider by maybe 30% I don't think this would happen. I know it's not feasible to change at this point but something to keep in mind for the next game? I do think allowing us to wear our armor at Skyhold instead of the beige pajamas would go a long way though (we could hide the shoulders and forget all about them)

I fully understand, it is definately a busy week. I have not played much since launch so I can only support this case with the use of early screenshots and screenshots of other people.

Yes, the armour linked by you Mister Schumacher looks fine outside of dialogues and even during certain dialogue poses it has its good moments. Unfortunately, most of the time it is not in the mood. Here are examples of the same armour on elf and human.

Elves suffer from arms-ribcage hugging.

Here: famous broken arms:

Here is an example of another, armour, we find later in the game

The male elf appears more padded down with certain armor on. Go to Skyhold and look at his body in his house clothes. It's unfortunate.

Yep, can't even continue playing now I've reached skyhold. Too painful to watch (not really kidding)  Do you guys know a way to wear something else in Skyhold?

God, I can't bear the thought of Skyhold. The only reason I'm able to play my elf mage without being bugged by the stick sized proportions of his body (except his massive head) and the broken arms, is because of the DLC armor I got, which hides the problem with padded shoulders and armored sleeves.

I'm going to cry when I get to Skyhold and have to run around in that horrendous default outfit.

Maybe...and man do I not really want to...I'll set my elf aside and play a qunari. I really don't want to though. I'd like my first playthrough to be my elf mage...

While I'm not 100% sure on this, it appears that particular armor sets body build is shared between human and elf. It seems this way because the elves are really lanky, and as in the picture above, they have almost the exact physique as a human male. Another detail that makes it appear that this is true is the size of an elf's head in comparison to the body when first starting the game, it appears disproportionately small. I could very well be wrong on this however, just something I felt worth pointing out.

small? My elf's head feels 3 times to big for his body. (mostly in the skyhold outfit)

I'm happy when I find armor that adjusts him to a more normal body size. Hince why I'm still sporting the DLC armor when there is armor out there with way better stats. -_-

I only meant that the head seemed a bit tiny in the more normalized starting outfit. In the Skyhold outfit however, the head does seem disproportionate, but I think this is mostly due to the lack of broadness in the shoulders. That, however, could be a design choice.

Judging by the broken arms on the male elf body, I don't think it was a design choice. and if it was, its a really poor design choice. You play a Dalish elf, not a City Elf. Dalish hunt, travel across vast amounts of land, train in combat. They should look more healthy, nourished, and lithely built then the main male character does. If Solas can look that good when all he does is travel to ruins and sleep for Andraste knows how long, your Dalish should to. Right now, he looks like a Mantis creature disguised as an elf. xD (or one of those Terror demons) Heck, the living corpses look more healthy then my male elf does.

I don't know much about this 'rigging' but it looks to me as if someone skipped male elves all together. I don't like these broken and glued arms

Rigging is like the skeleton attached to the model to be able to make animations with.

If some of the rotations are of the joints or controls are changed by say some sort of armor or any other artifact...

It can show inverted joints... or in this case the shoulders...

but YOUR TIME SHALL COME MY FRIENDS.

WE SHALL ALL PLAY THE ELVISH IN ALL THERE GLORY :D.

Is it a funny quote, paraphrase or you know something about the upcoming patch?

I don't really expect a patch today, since it is Thanksgiving and even Bioware should be home with their families. But a patch soon would be nice, specially if it includes a fix.

I guess they didn't think people would want to play a MALE elf? Anyway, I know about rigging, and its possible that since the arms are so close to the body, the rigging in the arms might be snapping to the rigging in the chest, causing this issue.
