Disapointed with Inquisition

Spent 18 hours on Inquisition now and disappointed with it. Inquisition failed to live up to the hype for me. For me it feels like Bioware went with a quantity over quality approach. Inquisition is massively huge but everything feels painfully average. I spend more time feeling like I'm grinding than actually enjoying myself.

Other annoyances: No origin story. It makes it hard to role play because I don't know anything about the character I'm playing. I wish I had some experiences and motivations to work with to shape my Inquisitor's behavior but all I've got is a blank slate. No party tactics. Have fun manually selecting all of your party member's abilities every time you want to use strategy in battle.

In the end nothing really stands out for me in Inquisition other than its massive size. Every exceptional story bit and battle is buried under a sea of numerous average ones. I'd give Inquisition a 7.5/10. Slightly above average. Feels like Skyrim but less fun and less interesting.

No origin Story? So I guess my male human mage is the only one with an origin story?

Sorry that didn't really help. When you choose your character an origin story will pop up when you are done picking your race, class etc it is a paragraph or two and gives you a glimpse into your past. On top of that I have had a few convos with people about my past e.g with lady montilya we talk about my family. Maybe you just missed it.

I think gamers are just getting older and not enjoying games like they used to and they mistake that for a crappy game.

I disagree with the OP.  This is one of the best RPG's I've played in years.

As Campolius said there is an origin story there, it's just delivered through text rather than having you play through it. It's also fairly basic, with my origin story essentially being "You're the Keeper's first for a Dalish clan".

The important thing about that though for me is that there is in-game dialogue about me being both an elf and a mage.

The tactical gameplay can use some work though, especially on the PC version of the game. The action cam gets the job done if you want to play it like a hotkey MMO, even if it is a bit rough around the edges.

So there is no tactics screen?

Nothing resembling that feature in DAO or DA2, no.

Make one up.

That we get to do that in this game, rather than being forced to use the one they wrote for us, makes this game BioWare's best game for open character design since KotOR and NWN.

In fact, Inquisition is on par with those games. Finally BioWare has gone back to the blank slate PC. It's wonderful.

There is one but it is extremely limited unfortunately. You basically can only tell a companion to follow or "defend" which I presume means "ranged attack." It's there still but they have gutted to the point of uselessness.

Not to mention that through dialogue with NPCs you get to craft your past.

Small spoiler follows:

And the game asking you, about you, happens quite a lot.  Bioware... more of this!  So far, as far as story and roleplay go... the game is everything I've wanted.

Follow means (I think) to attack the target the followed character is attacking. Defend means (I think) to attack whomever is attacking the defended character.

But it's hard to say, given that none of this is explained anywhere.

This game needs documentation.

It does and I would also prefer they added back in the option to have the companion either tank or act in more ranged behavior. I sometimes have to pause and make sure they are doing that myself.

I wonder if he even bothered to explore the map and read the texts?

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't play the first two games also

You know what? I think that it's actually true because even tough the gaming industry it's evolving and amazing games are coming out, i am not enjoying video games as much as i did when i was 10-15 years old, i do like inquisition and i have only played couple of hours and im in ps3 that has a lot of graphical issues but it's a nice game, i still need to play more to have a clear judgement
