I only wanted to show that it is indeed possible to kill a dragon being a low level with the right strategy. Please don't play like this. I was only doing it because I'm a masochist and couldn't resist lol. It took me about 45 minutes to kill the dragon but the clip is only over 4 mins

The dragon loot is at the end of the video

Nothing wrong with exploiting an exploit, but I won't be doing this. I stumbled into this valley, saw my first dragon take flight and just marveled at how awesome it was. Then I laughed as a dragonling roasted a nug i had followed into this area from 15 feet away. Then out of nowhere the dragon I thought had flown off swooped over to where I was standing and two-shot my party.

Moral: dragons, man. Don't try to take them on head to head at level 4.

Congrats, I knew someone was going to pull this off. The loot you get isn't really worth it though so yeah, its best not to fight them low level. lol

I managed to take on the Dragon at level 11.  It was fairly tough even then and it was pretty close.  I ended up burning through all my potions and health regen potions as well before I got him down.  My 2hander Warrior with a sword had really did tear into the dragon though as it didn't really matter what he attacked as he tended to hit more than one spot.

I did my first dragon in Hard mode at Level 12.

I just brought to the fight my inquisitor + the 3 mages (Vivi, The awesome Elf and Dorian). I restated them for Full Cold + Barrier.

Basically I made sure that Barrier was always on and spammed blizzard. Because if you have 3 mages with barrier, you can be perma immune.

You just have to disable the AI to not use the Barrier, you have to use it manually.

It took me 1h30. But it was worth it, and I didn't use all my potions.

That was it. =)

I ran through there cloaked my team got immolated by the dragon. I just wanted to see what the dragon's hp, strengths and weaknesses were and well i thought to myself, to quote ME1 "This could be problematic". Suffice to say on nightmare i bailed. This is going to take some consideration.

Even the dragonlings can be very dangerous for a level-4 party. Things change quickly, though. At level 8 you can shrug off the aerial bombardments as a mere nuisance and you can eat dragonlings for breakfast. I sent my level-8 sword-and-shield toon into Lady Shayna's valley on a fact-finding solo suicide mission regarding the shards. A quarter hour later she was back with four shards, loot from a dozen dragonlings and only five regen pots plus one healing pot used. I guess the ocularum and the first two shards were placed so close to the valley entrance in order to get the idea of a mad dash for at least part of the goods into people's heads... There's also Obsidian and Royal Elfroot to be got in that valley, and the dragonlings are ideal for weapons testing.

Not judging, exploiting is fine (its a single player game). But it really isnt an achievement. Its like stabbing a martial artist in the back with a dagger and go "See, its possible to beat a martial artist in combat even if you have muscle atrophy syndrome". If you can beat it without exploiting, then it would be worth posting about. Personally I have too much pride to win a fight with an exploit, but I dont mind others doing it.

To clarify:The reason I reacted was not because you used an exploit - you stated yourself that playing like this is not recommended and all. I simply reacted because you called it a strategy and claiming to be a masochist. There is nothing masochistic here, only patience. There is no strategy involved, only exploiting.

Hinterlands dragon is level 19, one of the harder ones from what I can tell so far.

I managed to down the same Hinterlands dragon at Level 4.  My mage hid behind a rock as the dragon turned the rest of my party into a bunch of Post Toasties.  For some reason he (she?) never lifted off staying in the same place for the whole 30 minute battle.  The rock blocked all of his fire blasts and my mage never had to use so much as a Band Aid.  I had a cold staff and just kept my finger on the fire button the whole time while occasionally mixing in a freeze shot along with Chain Lightning.  At something like 13K of life for the dragon it took a while but my mage was patient and soon had a booty full of Level 10-13 loot.

when I finally found the hinterlands dragon I was level 17 and it was level 12 rolled it pretty comfortably but it did put up a decent fight . I play my first play throughs on normal always. The highest level dragon I have encountered was 18.
