I haven't found much if any discussion or inquiries about this, so I'm going to assume this is one of the bugs that hasn't sprung up often enough to get a lot of attention. I've gotten well into Inquisition's "content" (no spoilers) on the Xbox One and post Val Royeaux I'm now encountering a Party Banter bug where, in any area, the companions won't, well, banter. Full conversations trigger for important moments. Cutscenes, no problems. But it's quiet as I'm running around exploring. I *just* added Sera to the party and not a peep. It's frustrating and disappointing, especially since this bug seems fairly isolated to only a few as previously mentioned. Has anyone heard more about this issue? Are there any suggested fixes.

My companions are so silent that I sometimes turn around to check if they're even behind me. And they just give me that awkward look...

Compared to other BioWare games, the inter-party banter does seem to be rather slim.  I too have had a few moments when I have casually turned the camera around to ensure my party is still there rather than having all hid behind a giant rock at some point just to see how long it would take me to notice their disappearance.

When they do talk though, there have been several times when it was quite funny.  I had Vivienne and Sera in a party when Vivienne mentioned something to Sera about the way she dressed.  Sera simply stated "Yea, well, you're a ******."

I am not sure, but I think I noticed my characters head shake from side to side for a moment with a laugh.  Of course, that could have just been my reaction though.

Yeah I'm wondering if the companions should be talking more?  Only heard one banter so far.

I'm almost sure this is a glitch - I walk around doing quests for 30 minutes at a time and get nothing, with different party comps and all. Really, really want to know how to fix this!

I'm having the same problem on Xbox 360. I've tried traveling in different areas, stickings to the roads vs wilderness, and nothing. I never realized how much party banter makes or breaks the game :(

Something definitely bugged if you aren't getting any banter at all.

While tragveling around the hinterlands I hear a banter every once in a while.

Update: It seems as if the memory load affects the banter. In other words if you've been playing for more than, say, two hours the banter seems to trigger less and less. However with freshly loaded games the banter can, sometimes, take between 15 to 25 minutes to trigger. In some cases as much as a half hour's worth of gameplay/traveling about passed before banter started up again. So it certainly seems as if there's some kind of bug, but it does not appear to completely cancel out the party banter, just delay it some.

I actually just searched the forums because I noticed the same thing. My party is so quiet that it's getting creepy.

It's worth considering that some of the quietness may be intentional. Not all, from what I've heard of people reporting complete silence... but some.

Figure that the devs knew our playtimes might be very lengthy in this chapter of the series. There's just so much space to traverse. Spreading out the banter -- which has been said to be a small novel's worth when combined -- would be logical. Compare this with DA2, in which chatter was nicely constant but largely because surely the devs knew with so small an area we'd have gotten everywhere we were going first otherwise.

I'm hopeful for a patch to fix those files which seem damnably quiet, but I'm thinking the time between speaking is, for some at least, perhaps intended.

Weird... My party hasn't shut up throughout my beginning journey through the Hinterlands. I don't mind but I'm worried they'll exhaust all talk half way through the game!

That definitely sounds strange.  I've had Varric and Cassandra casually bantering in a mildly flirtatious manner quite often.  Adding Vivienne to the party has now switched the banter to between her and both Varric and Cassandra.  Quite enjoyable exchanges, but rather short at the same time.

I'm getting a nice spread of banter. Not constant, but every now and then in the hinterlands. Feels like a good pace. Hope they don't run out of things to say, lol.

Yeah, it's very quiet a lot of the time for me too.

Although I put Solas and Viv in a party together at one point and they went through three lots of dialogue in the space of about 15 minutes....it's weird.  I wish it'd occur more while exploring, it's too quiet sometimes.  I also wish I could turn around and talk to my companions, even if they just said that usual set dialogue, just so they feel a little more alive.

Yeah I'm getting the same issue here. Only just recently had one conversation with the party between Cassandra and Sera. That is after hours of playing.

For me it's like every 30 min or so traversing the Hinterlands. Usually it's banter between Solas and Sera (pfffft ). Solas has surprisingly a lot to say for a silent type of guy I took him for.

I've come to the same conclusion, when I've just loaded the game I get quite a bit of banter. I play on the lowest settings though, maybe people with less performance issues get banter more regularly?

You are not alone take a look here too : http://forum.bioware...rent-bantering/

I quote myself from that thread :

I've 30h playing time and yet I've only had 8 banters so far, this doesn't seem normal at all! What's going on am I having a bug on my game too? (Playing on PC by the way).

I've had almost no banter either. I had some between Cass/Varric/Solas at the beginning of the game but there's been nothing between any of the other companions. They make comments during sidequests but that's all. It's a shame because seeing characters interact with each other is one of the highlights of these games.
