Ranged classes are so much better than Melee ones.

My first character on DAI was a DW Rogue. I had a great. time playing them on DAO/DA2. High Dps and dodging is as badass as it gets.
So there I was, using a DW Rogue on Hard, which isn't that hard, but the controls... man. You give an attack command against an enemy a few feet away and slightly out of angle, and my Elf swings the dagger against the air. What the hell!?
You need to get close to the enemy (on maps that are normally large and open) and aim at a proper angle to hit them, on top of holding the mouse button to continue to attack while your character can often get out of view inside the crowd. What a mess of gameplay.
I had got to the Hinterlands, did some side quests but that was it.
Started a new character as a Mage and man, what a bliss. Not having to get inside the crowd nor aiming at a proper angle to hit the enemies make a huge difference. Playing on hard is a walk on the park. I got to Val Royaux and only got wiped when I faced enemies that were at a much higher level than me.

They need to fix/change the melee gameplay. There is no comparison to ranged classes. Even the open maps facilitate ranged over melee.

Hit tab or click the right analog stick to lock on to your opponent and maintain facing towards them. It makes auto attacking and using the admittedly loose rogue attacks easier. Doesn't solve every issue with the spec but it helps.

Essentially, the problem lies in controlling range.  Movement in general and combat movement in particular is really wonky atm, leading to dps downtime.  Ranged specs don't have this issue since they don't need to move as much.

Glad I'm playing an archer then. :)

I really hope these problems will be fixed in a patch. The combat UI needs a lot of work.

I found upgraded hook and tackle absolutely invaluable as a rogue.  It eliminates 90% of the melee rogue's mobility problems.

Tip: find an aoe dagger, put it in main hand. Loss of dps is worth it, because it fixes many of the combat frustrations the rogue is facing

My melee rogue easy does half or so of the party damage.

Ranged is better when there is alot of aoe flying around and if you dont want to micro him. cause hes pretty bad if left alone because he has to position and you got to be quick on on your feets.

Since its my main character i spend most battle on my rogue.

2 ways to stealth and frost flask keep him healthy.

lvl 15 right now, so things may change..
