Okay I have played very little on the PS4 so far so I know very little

Dragon Age Inquisition installed very quickly

Just after I started the game up I want to the dashboard and looked at information and there wasn't a progress bar anymore. It just said 45 GB. If it were still installing, should't there be a progress bar that I could see how far along it was? By the way I have the disk copy of the game.

Also I tried putting Alien: Isolation in and it went from 0-20 GB in less than 15 seconds. I also have the disk verion of this game How is this possible?

My assumption is it installs the first portion of the game (about 5 gigs) and you can start playing. While you're playing, it's installing the rest in the background.

PS4 installs enough for you to start play then does the rest in the background.

As I said it took less than 15 seconds to install Alien: Isolation which is 20 Gb and I say it again. SHould't I be able to see a progress bar if it was still installing when I go to the dashboard???

Why would you need to see a progress bar? I know when I'm playing a game, I'm actually paying attention to the game. :D

I'm just giving you a hard time. But seriously, the PS4 streams game installs in the background while you're playing. It gets you up and running in a few seconds, then streams the rest. If you popped in the disc, did the start up install and started playing the game, it was probably done by time you stopped playing if you played for at least 30 minutes.

I wouldn't worry too much about it...

Well I can tell you that I tried another game and it installed 20 Gb in less than 20 seconds. And I know this since I checked applications and it said 20 Gb was stored

It's just as Chadness says, the PS4 will install a small amount so you can play but it will say 20Gb installed, even though it is only a small amount that is only installed and will install the rest whilst you play (it pre-installs small chunks of the game to the hdd, it's the same if you are downloading a game for the PS4 over the internet). It has something to do with the software/hardware Sony has put in it although some games cut out after a couple of hours if the full game hasn't installed yet. no one except Sony, really knows how it works but it's a background process.

P.S, It also greatly increases the PS4's disk read speed, whilst you play.

Okay but why is it then that it clearly says on my PS4 harddrive that the whole amount (Dragon Age Inquisition 45 GB, Watchdog 22 Gb) has been installed if only a small portion has been?

Also what happens if you quit the game almost after beginning it and the installation is interupted?

You should get an Xbox One for the progress bar and not have to worry about PS4 magic.

When you first insert the disc for PS4, it checks that you have enough disk space for the game.

It then reserves the space for the full install, and installs a small portion of the game (enough for it to start).

The game then continues to install in the background until it's complete.

Hopefully that clears it up.

This.

It happens with every game on PS4. In 2-5 minutes you can start playing the game and the game still continues installing on the background.

What an interesting way of doing it. I imagine it would be very convenient for a lot of people!

Are there any risks associated with it? Processes that should be avoided, for example, to keep enough memory free for the install to finish safely?

After you do the initial install press the option button on the game logo in the dashboard. Then go to info and you should see how much has downloaded.

PS4? Sony? Playing the game before it finishes downloading? All this sounds like Blood magic if you ask me
