I did eventually respec to an archer, mostly because I was tired of how often abilities and attacks missed the enemy. Even with a gamepad it feels clunky and annoying to me. With an archer I can hang back and do devastating damage while controlling the field of battle.
Melee rogue is awful, especially on nightmare.

Eh, abilities don't really miss enemies at all after you learn how they work. Just stop targeting enemies that are higher than you. Evade to their level, then use Flank Attack, instead of trying to use it right away. Etc.

Basically, you have to learn to work with the broken elements of gameplay. I'm so used to uneven elevation breaking Flank Attack (and most other tracking abilities) that I now automatically do not use it when I suspect it'll fail.
Disappointing but workable.

Dual Wield Rogues are so laughably easy that it's almost broken. Here is a video of real time rogue play on Nightmare. Note that I do not use any specialization tree (no assassin, no tempest) just the basic ones. Stealth, Evade, Poison, then most of the Dual Wield tree for combos after combos. Freeze-> Combo, Stun->Combo, Paralyze->Combo. Note how the mages stun lock the Templar abomination. Rogues are basically combo busters. In the video, I didn't use any of the combo detonators on the abomination but he was primed for those as he was frozen, then paralyzed over and over again.
The rest of the team merely serves the rogue by setting up the combos. I have guard on hit and hidden blade proc which makes everything too easy, but even without those, you just need to stealth and evade more. Wait for the stun lock, then unleash your combo detonators.
There are tons of ways not to get hit. Enemies attack? Backstab. Enemies attack? Stealth. Enemies attack? Evade. Dual wield rogues are extremely fun to play and just plain overpowered if played right.
I love it

Vanguard-esque with warrior? Heal/buff/aggro bots are alright.

It doesn't happen so much. I agree it can be annoying but after a while you learn what can be problematic and you adjust accordingly. These things will get addressed in time but it is not that you cannot work with it even now.
If you respec out of a DW rogue just because of this well... I don't really know what to say. To everyone his/her own I guess but I tried rogue archer once and it was much more boring to play and it was not as much powerful as DW is if you know what to do. Surely more easy to work with for beginners, however.

I have come to the conclusion that melee rogue is one of the strongest characters in the game. But, he is the type of character that you have to know how to use so he can be potent in the battlefield.
Unlike the BORING archer, where you stand still, wait for your cooldowns, hold R2 and repeat, the DW Rogue has you constantly moving and thinking of which ability to use next – pick the right ones and enemies crumble.
I am a level 11 rogue playing on Hard.
At first, I went melee. Then I switched to Archer.
DW Rogue is so great at one shotting enemies. Archer? Dead. Mage? Dead. Full armor captain? He ain't dead in one shot, but my DW Rogue does take huge chunks of damage off.
Archer is boring. Made for kids. Give me Dorian (Spirit tree), Solas (Fire), Blackwall (tank) and my DW Rogue and I can tackle anyone.
Saving Nightmare for second run. I played it for about 2 or four hours then switched. Now that I understand mechanics, I don't really see Nightmare being a problem.

Console controls > PC Controls. Bioware needs to stop treating this as a console port and think about the PC user's perspective.

By speccing the right skills and having at least decent daggers.
The thing is i hate the tactical cam i feel like dual daggerrogue requires you to use tac cam if youre low level ...especially with dumbai i refuse to use tac cam lol
You don't have to use tactical cam. Only time I've used it is at the boss fight of the Templar-alliance quest.

My setup at level 11, playing on hard - before I get into anything I want to say this: Twin Fangs + Ripping Fangs are perhaps the two most important skills for a DW Rogue.
The game has a lot of obstacles in terms of learning – there is just so much you can do in this game. Crafting, to me at least, was intimidating. However, at about level 8, I crafted a dagger that did 216 damage. I soon crafted another dagger that does also does 216 damage. Recently, I got a ring that does 30% more damage when using Twin Fangs. Which is awesome.
My fights usually start by me wandering around the enemies invisible, picking someone I know I can kill instantly that is powerful - like a mage, getting right behind them and using Twin Fangs. If they don't die on that first hit, they die shortly after and then turn into a toxic poison.
SKILLS:
- Twin Fangs
- Ripping Fangs (great opener, and great to use on an incapacitated enemy. Like one that is frozen, or, once I list the rest of my skills, especially those that are asleep.)
- Flank Attack (Get this after Lost in Shadows)
- Poisoned Weapons
- Infected Wounds
- Fighting Dirty
- Explosive Toxin, which works great when you kill that first enemy.
- Stealth (You should get this ASAP)
- Lost in the Shadows (Get this ASAP, too)
- Easy to Miss
- Knockout Powder
- And my favorite, Mercy Killing "When their hearts aren't in the fight, it's almost too easy. Your attacks on panicked or sleeping enemies are automatic critical hits."
I'm aiming to get Sneak Attack next and then I want to try Deep Sleep. Sneak Attack is just plain OP with a well equipped Rogue. 58% Crit chance when attacking from rear. I'm always doing it from behind!
Side note, I love how the game lets you respec so easily.

Yeah I need to get mercy killing next. One of my favorite tactics is wandering the battlefield in stealth gassing enemies to sleep. Hint for those who don't yet know, you don't come out of stealth when using knockout powder. Mercy killing sounds like the bomb. FTW!

Oh and usually you can pull off a death blow - twin fang combo, if you time it right you can pull it off with no cool down between.
I usually gas a few with knock out powder. Then pick my target usually an archer to get them off the battlefield. Flank attack, death blow/twin fang combo. evade then stealth. Rinse repeat.

Flank attack became so annoying with its constant failure, that I switched to improved hook and chain. Best decision ever. It's a stamina free gap closer that you can spam, and since you are a tempest both frost and lightning flask let you reposition to flank stupidly well.
I wish rogues had a reliable snare/root, though, since your movement in combat is very slow so if the tank challenges your add and the add runs to the tank, chasing the add that runs faster than you is a pain.
I'm not impressed by evade, though. It's a huge stamina cost and quite frankly you can avoid most attacks without it by simply positioning properly.

Flank attacks is used to get close to the enemy. If you're doing it right, it shouldn't fail. Evade is to get away quickly against enemies with AOE attacks. You mentioned that your movement is too slow yet you're able to dodge AOE attacks just by re-positioning?

Is there any item that reduces stamina usage
There's an ability that adds stamina in one of the rogue trees. Rogues spec right has no lack of stamina.

I need to get guard on hit. My biggest issue is getting pin cushioned by archers when I'm on a roll.
