Are KE's boring to play?

Reading various forums about the various mage specs and it seems that KE's can be fairly boring to play. Not because they're OP, but because you basically mash Spirit Blades after dropping a few other spells.

To anyone who has played at least a few hours of KE, what are your thoughts?

I did a respec when I got my KE specialization. I'm really enjoying it. With several passives and actives in the inferno tree, I can cast so many spells thanks to spirit blade. It's crazy powerful. Also, don't really need barriers. I have Dorian in my party which starts a fight by casting static cage, my inquisitor casts fire mine at the center and then teleports to it and immediately uses fade cloak.

Mobs trying to attack Dorian will be teleported to the center with a fade cloak blast and fire mine waiting for them. Kills most mobs outright if you manage to pull it off and gives you full barriers.

I guess it's subjective? I'm having way more fun right now as a KE.

It's fun at first.  But after a while you realize you cannot be killed unless you walk away from your keyboard/controller.  So if you like  a challenge it kind of ruins it.  I'm convinced the KE would have been great.  It just needed something extra.  Like another resource to juggle.  Or if the barrier only stopped a fraction of the damage.  Something to make you struggle.

The immortality part is true- but a bit over stated in that when you get to high levels (18+) - none of the mages can die. Rift Mage never runs out of Mana and has awesome AOE spells. Necromancer with Fade Touched Snofleur is immortal. And if you do get killed- 10 seconds of mana free casting. KE has Fade Shield- which provides immortality- so long as you are dealing damage. But KE does provide versatility for anyone who likes close quarters combat (Spirit Blade) along with some ranged abilities (Static Cage and Fire Mine are must haves). You don't just have to mash spirit blade.

I would suggest that, in order to get the most from KE, go solo- or a max of one other person in your party. You still won't die- but you will take some damage being the only party member to arrive at a Fade Rift or assaulting a keep.

Excellent advice I think.  Although going alone or duo does cut you out of a lot of fun party banter.

Perhaps make it a goal to not let anyone die.  If you act more of a team captain, and less of a damage dealer, it may become more fulfilling.  Find success in keeping everyone alive, rather than just yourself.

I can see why people would find it boring and respect their opinion, but I do not.

Same with me, but then I'm not obsessed with min/maxing...

I think what some call min/maxing is others looking for a challenge. Why give a game "nightmare" mode when you can breeze through half awake as a KE?

"Nightmare" difficulty should mean something. To me it means playing smart and failure to do so means frequent reloads.

Looking for a challenge? Is that what it's called when the min/maxers create cookie cutter builds optimized to exploit the game mechanics? Damn... I call that boring ass bull ****.

Not sure what you are talking about.  Trying to pick smart skills that have synergy to overcome difficult challenges is fun for some people.  Picking whatever skills have pretty colors and whatever armor makes you look pretty is what my nine year old daughter does.

Currently you don't even have to be smart about knight enchanter.  Just pick up everything in the tree.  Sure you may not be OP without the cookier cutter build, but you are a walking god-like barrier tank (with NO taunt!!!!)

Isn't min/maxing what it is called when you OPTIMIZE your build for the best performance? If that is not it, then why call it min/max if it has nothing to do with min/maxing builds?

OPTIMIZE is so vague.  Based on what you imply, all min/maxer's should play on casual mode so that it maximizes their awesomeness!!!!!!  Or maybe you mean they should turn down their graphics to maximize their FPS along with their damage.

Yay 1,000,000 dps against casual level mobs with 100+ fps.

What I mean is that so-called min/maxers build to most optimal caracters for what they play on. IF you want a real challenge, then nightmare, no crafting, potions or min/max builds allowed. That is a challenge.

Eh, I like min-maxing builds and I still don't find KE boring when I do it for that.

I found it boring tbh. I do like them for sheer OP and you can pretty much solo dragons. but yeah I mostly mashed one button and that was about it. although I did mostly play on normal so not much challenge anyways.

They can be fun, but like Bigdawg13 said, you eventually realize you are not going to die. They can do nice damage with the fire trap and fire barrier buff that empowers your fire spells. Basically means you throw up your barrier, consume half of it to empower your fire trap, then fire trap explodes and maxes out your barrier again. At higher levels you end up with like 12,000 barrier at all times, its quite insane, if not a little funny. You just destroy everything.

To be honest though you can pretty much do this with any class though on nightmare if set up correctly.

In the end You should play whatever class you feel like you would enjoy, what do you see yourself like in your minds eye? Often this will make a class more appealing to you if its more of what you feel like you would enjoy.
