2 reasons ME3MP was more fun: Your fun didn't depend on having competent tanking/healing (or Barriering), and a common mook wasn't tougher than you

I've been thinking about it.

I knew combat would be slower paced, especially after finding we would be fighting room to room, rather than waves all over the same area.

I didn't expect to succeed or fail based on the skilled usage of an ability or two the group may or may not have.

I didn't expect to be a whelp facing bad guys who ate way too many protein bars and can take dozens more hits than I can. Yes, getting hit was extremely dangerous in ME3 as well, but we also had sticky cover, self-recharging shields, combat rolls, powers to freeze or fling them like ragdolls, and Claymore shots to the face.

You're comparing a fast-paced shooter to a hack-n-slash dungeon game. Your connection privileges to the EA servers are revoked... you know when servers are actually not disconnecting you constantly.

I'm not sure what you mean, though there is an offensive word with similar spelling.

Once you level up a bit more you won't need barrier. You can clear threatening difficulty without a keeper as well.

As the classes gain their most powerful skills and you upgrade your gear, you will be able to roll everything besides the demon commander boss. He's always a pain no matter what hahah

I played with me as a keeper and 3 archers and we won. Also did 3 tanks and 1 archer. You don't need perfect party. Just is harder which makes since.

After adjusting some of the controls and playing some SP, I'm liking it, but I do wish basic mobility was better - like at least a not so nerfed sprint or some better sidesteps/dodges when moving. Also I dont understand the PC mouse look/targeting at all - I'd be fine with just using targets or targeting reticle LOS for AOE.

some kinds dodge... that load in the pants sprint is weak.  How did the archer move that slow and ever make it outta the woods?

I have been trying to determine if sprint is even enabled in multiplayer.

The sprint button is like an airline seat recline button. It's barely noticeable.

Then there are only 3 classes with very restricted roles.  With the above factors means a very long and meh grind to unlock anything

Then, spending real money is only gambling on a lottery because of the undifferentiated chests

Honestly, I have to think that this works against them. The only times I was ever tempted to do any RMT in ME3MP was during my long UR grind, but at least those packs had some guarantees for rarity (even then, getting Ammo vs URs pretty much stayed my hand). For these chests, not only is it totally random, but even when you get a rare or unique, it'll likely turn out that it's a low level and a higher level common will do double the DPS. You'd have to be crazy or a compulsive gambler to want to pay real money for such a broken loot system.

Only reason to buy chests is to break down the items to craft armor for the class you want to unlock/upgrade. Because you're doing that, it doesn't matter what the RNG throws at you, its all useful (though cloth is more useful).

You also didn't get killed by essentially unavoidable ranged damage. Well I mean it was still somewhat unavoidable, but ME3 wasn't a game of attrition (which was a poor choice imo).

And you had regenerating shields, cover, headshots, etc.

Comparisons to ME3 need to stop, as they are all this MP sucks and ME3 was way better.  Seriously, who cares?

If you're not having fun, then make constructive recommendations, or simply leave.  Many are enjoying this iteration of an MP - even those (like myself) who loved the ME3 MP and played the hell out of it.  This MP can be improved (just as ME3 was dramatically improved over time), but so far it's still a fun place to spend time in a vid game.  And yeah it's not a cover/shooter style MP, so adjust and enjoy.

Part of the problem, as the OP noted, is that class roles are far too strict.  Worse yet, to maximize a run you need at minimum 1 player from each class.  Some of my favorite moments from ME3's MP were running 4 of the same class.  In DAMP you can't run 4 of the same class without accepting that you will miss ~2/3 of the hidden areas.  Strategic party composition should be a highlight of this game, not a prohibitive factor.  Finding ways to run missions without a tank, or with all invisibility Rogues should be fun but instead Bioware is forcing us to play the game how they want.  It's severely limiting and when combined with the importance of high level items it really makes the game about grinding instead of finding creative ways to play.  Hopefully Bioware can remedy this in the future but for now DAMP feels unfinished.

Agreed that the artificial restriction is kinda bad form. What about a cheap, common potion to open doors? Allows for experienced players with good manifests to change things up while encouraging beginners to stick to the formula?
