I've been testing how particular display settings affect the game performance... and it seems that - at least in my case- gameplay got smoother (even though it was just fine to me before) after I switched 'blur' options to 'low'.  I don't even need them and, to be honest, I was surprised to see that change.  This is the only change I stuck with at the moment, the rest of my display settings are randomized ultra, including 2x MSAA. I hope some of you find this info useful.

Putting gameplay fps aside,  a patch concerning cut scenes will be more than welcome.

Wow, it's weird you have performance problems with rig of such class. I'm still trying to get the optimum/balance  with my rig:

i5-3550, 3,30 GHz

8 GB RAM

Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 OC 2GB, slightly oc-ed

Win 7 x64

Actually I'm able to get pretty good performance on ultra settings with 2x MSAA during gameplay. However, the game seems to have performance problems during cut scenes. Lowering settings doesn't help too much (in some cases it even....lowers performance), so I guess that's a question of optimization. It just looks like- as you said- the game doesn't use full potential of our hardware.  As for my rig- I don't know the display difference between BF3 and BF4, but  my PC was running BF3  smoooothly with game settings totally maxed out.

I know that's completely off-top but perhaps that's the case in newest EA-distributed games? Low fps syndrome was typical of Fifa 15 right after release date- but only during replays, not in the whole gameplay... Of course I'm not comparing the complexity of these 2 games in terms of how much our GPU needs to render. Just saying ;-)

I know it's obvious- but are you completely sure you have newest drivers? I updated mine right before playing, I was surprised to see my GPU being recognized as a card of R9 series power - but it seems it paid off ;-)

Yep - I update my drivers as soon as I saw the low framerate / stuttering. No difference, sadly. But this is definitely a question worth asking.

The capped performance to 30fps during dialogue scenes / in-game cinematics is an intentional (if flawed) design by the developers, yes. It's not a bug, it's just a mistake (and not at all a big deal for me) and is entirely separate from the fact that you need 60fps in combat and when walking around the world for you to not notice frame-stuttering and have that get in the way of your immersion. As some others have said, it seems like PS4 is the best platform for this game at the moment. I can get the same quality as the PS4 but from a computer that cost about 5 times as much, albeit at a higher resolution (I actually play the game @ 2560x1440) because changing resolution doesn't seem to have any impact on performance for me (i.e. the performance isn't scaling properly in this regard).

I also want to make this clear, in case anyone was wondering, my very simple report is based on the onscreen monitoring of the loads on my CPU & GPU via MSI Afterburner, but honestly I wouldn't even need those stats to tell you that the game is not fully using the hardware resources because I can literally hear my PC being quiet when it should be very loud indeed with all the fans running to cool the CPU and GPU which only happens when I run very taxing software processes.

The spawning of enemies is ridiculous, I mean it doesn't take them more than a couple of minutes to respawn and sometimes they spawn right in front of you, literally, I was running around and suddenly a few boxes a tent and 3 templar appeared out of nowhere not even a meter from where I was heading

Yes, I also think the 30 fps during cut scenes is intentional. However, perhaps it's possible to fix it.  To be honest, I don't need more than that amount of fps even during combat or while exploring, it's not a shooter. I just have an impression of the game slowing down just for a second during some of the cut scenes. I don't actually feel the constant drop of frames there.

IMO you made a good point there about the game not using our hardware's potential. Alt + Tab works perfectly  in DAI, i.e. today I used it a lot of times just to watch some tv series online with game minimized , being played in the background. I know we all have multiple CPU cores and multi-tasking is a common thing today. However, I'm wondering whether an ultra-hardware consuming game wouldn't spoil my PC's work being in the background for such a long time. It seems to me that it's the matter of optimization to squeeze all the juice from gamers' hardware.

And a little remark from my side- I don't feel like having any reason to complain at all, I can play this game with settings almost totally maxed out, even though my rig isn't the best you can find around. I also really, really enjoy the game, despite the obvious control and 'console-like- flaws. But I would be upset if I were you, having a PC of that class and still wondering about what causes performance flaws.

Who knows, perhaps next Bioware's update/patch will adjust the game to your rig :)

Yep. I hope the community managers already have the first page bookmarked and ready to read from when the bosses show up.j

Might as well get some convo going here as well too keep its bumped. So somebody posted a Laidlaw tweet earlier, regarding the walk toggle. What if Somebody were to tweet him the question, " Hey Mike, who was the guy who came up with the new plan for PC controls?"

Wonder if that would get any kind of reply...

I have a really annoying bug, wanted to know if someone is experiencing the same.

The game runs very well, 60+ in ultra.

I play in windowed fullscreen mode because I have 2 monitors and sometimes when I alt + tab the game then come back in, it triggers a bug.

The bug is quite strange, when I select an AOE spell, my framerate drop from 60 to 10 or less FPS, it happens with AOE spells but also when hovering enemies (only enemies, allies don't trigger anything).

And that's only when I alt+tab the game I then have to restart the game and then the bug is gone and I can cast AOE spell normally.

Not an horrible bug but a quite annoying one. ^^ Have someone experienced the same thing ?

One to add:

Character record can become permanently locked if you do not assign ability points during the tutorial.  So far, all platforms:

Mage Ability "Fortifying Blast" does not work at all as far as I can tell.... it's supposed to add a 10% Barrier per person hit with your Mind Blast... nada happens no matter how many enemies I hit with it.

Tested a million or so times, pretty sure.

Have heard some other Mage abilities are bugged and not working either, ability bugs should be pretty dang high priority one would think....

I have not been able to play the game due to crashes 10 mins into gameplay with no error code at all. Game just crashes to desktop.

Did anyone else entirely lose the access to the ability in slot 1 after acquiring Mark of the rift? I can't use Long Shot anymore, because it isn't there :[

my bugs so far:

Singleplayer (I'm still in the tutorial)

- had the DirectX crash once

- yesterday the console popped up (!) during the tutorial boss fight; I don't know why and I could not close it again (had to shut the game down via task manager)

- sometimes a left mouse click will turn my full screen into a windowed. If I click again, it's back to full screen

Multiplayer (in approx. 10 or 12 games)

- host migration doesn't work (had to shut the game down via task manager)

- friend invite doesn't work (had to shut the game down via task manager)

- 3 times "you lost connection to the game" and one time "your connection to EA servers has been lost" (back to main menu)

- my Keeper loses her basic attack every once in a while during a game, when the basic attack is back, she celebrates it with drinking a healing potion, no matter if needed, no matter which button I press

- sometimes the game behaves as if I have pressed esc, when I press a/s/d or shift (only w/Keeper)

- had the DirectX crash twice

- sometimes a left mouse click will turn my full screen into a windowed. If I click again, it's back to full screen

- matchmaking takes forever, you see the name of a player in the lobby and a blinking "loading" beneath for up to 5 minutes

I like both, the SP and the MP. But KB/M controls are a mess. And the MP has even more glitches and bugs than the ME3MP.

Yes I feel the same way. I'm just going to try and wait it out a little bit... in some ways it's a good thing as honestly I have many real-world responsibilities that I need to take care of too! And even though technically I am part of the peecee mastur rase I gotta say I overwhelmingly prefer the UX design directions of DAI over DAO.

I get what you are saying about multi-tasking/background processes with your PC, but the default setting for any game should be fullscreen and hogging everything away from every other process. One can always manually set any program to only have access to the process queues of a certain number of cores very easily in Windows Task Manager for example. I would say that the number of people who want to play a game and also expect to be able to render something in the background is a percentage so small that a 64-bit floating point number operation would still round it to zero.

Just think about the difference you're gonna feel once the game is optimized for your PC. The question is.... when? ;) As for the comparison between DAI/DAO - hard to tell at the moment. I was hoping for more 'direct' transition from DAO to DAI regarding some aspects, especially tactical view which felt so natural/smooth in DAO. However, I got used to DAI interface almost instantly and even though some issues are really annoying, I enjoy the game a lot.

I agree with what you said about background processes. I 'discovered' ( too big a word, lololol) it accidentally and since it already exists, I''m using it for short breaks during gameplay, without the need of loading saved games afterwards, which would take some time. And yeah, it shouldn't be a default. I think a game of such requirements should make our hardware fully concentrate on this one task in order to get great performance. I'm still happy about DAI performance though.

I just wonder what's the margin of non-used CPU/RAM potential in DAI since all these transition between tasks run perfectly smooth in my case. As a matter of fact, when I have the game minimized and I highlight it with a mouse on task bar, the preview runs smoothly as well.

Anyway, I still think that after first updates/patches, we might be even more happy about this game.

BTW I see an update from Bioware regarding GPU : http://forum.bioware...erns/?bioware=1

' If you are having DirectX issues and you have an AMD Radeon graphics card, please update to the AMD Catalyst 14.11.2 beta driver.

We are aware of issues with certain NVidia graphic cards and we are working with NVIDIA for a solution.'

So it seems you can expect some solution soon :)

the situation is getting weird in multiplayer. There are rooms that you can only walk if you staying jumping (because of huge rubberbanding; it's not my connection and a lot of people have this problem too). Happens even when you're living in the same country of the host (my friend that lives in the same city have some lag when i host).
