I've just finished my first play through (as a human noble); I took about 80 hours and I'm pretty sure I did practically of the side quests (aside from one at the Gnawed Noble in Denerim- 10 garnets for Heaven's sake...) and definitely all of the companion quests. However, it says in my profile that I've completed 56% of the game.

Have I really missed nearly half of it, or is it because I haven't started the other origins?

I think this actually states the percentage of achievements unlocked.

I think apart from the origins, there are more than one paths you will encountered during your game play. e.g. Side with the mages or templars in the circle, side with the werewolves or elves in the Forest, recruit Alistair or Loghain. Also, there are more than one endings you haven't explored yet.

I think that that percentage is cumulative through all of your games.

Ahh, OK, both of those make sense. I have 51 out of 87 achievements apparently, which comes out close to my percentage complete. Also, I see what you mean about following different routes through. Although I'm buggered if I'm keeping Alistair, the whingebag ;)

At least it looks like I haven't missed out a great big chunk of the game somehow.

It is, I've only played the one character though.

It's got to do with achievements. I've unlocked all achievements and it reads 100% completed.

You can't get 100% in play playthrough. Game's too big for that.
